Unit VIII Case Study

Instructions

This assignment is designed to provide an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of the components of an ergonomic process. Specifically, you will be reading a case study and compiling a paper that discusses the compatibility of the components of the ergonomics process and the components of a safety management system.

Click here to access the case study.

You are required to develop a two-page written report that must include each of the following elements:

an overview of the case;
identification and discussion of the elements/components of the participatory ergonomics program and the occupational safety and health management systems that were similar and different (you may need to refer to your unit lesson); and
YOUR assessment of the compatibility of participatory ergonomics programs and occupational safety and health management systems.
Your completed project must include a minimum of two outside sources, one of which must be from the CSU Online Library; a two-page written report; and both a title page and references page.

Discuss how you can apply the concepts learned in this course to your current or future career. How might the lessons you have learned positively impact your career success?

Optional: In this unit lesson, we discuss ergonomic risk assessment. There are a variety of ergonomic risk assessment tools available for identifying musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) risk factors. These tools are intended to assist in the identification of high-risk jobs and in the identification of the risky components that can be ergonomically redesigned. For this unit’s discussion, please share your experience with using ergonomic risk assessment tools in your current or previous employment. If you have not previously used ergonomic risk assessment tools, please share your thoughts on which tools you feel you are likely to use based on the information provided in the unit lesson.

Now that youve finished your second major assignment for this course, its time to reflect on what youve learned. Look back at Journal Entries #1 and #5, where you have described and developed your theory of reading and writing, and consider: what have you learned about reading and writing after working with McCarthys essay, TSIS, and Assignment 2? Which of your key terms or concepts have been confirmed? Do you feel any aspect of your theory has been challenged or overturned? How so? Have you developed any new key terms or concepts that you would add to your theory? Which ones?

First, select a recent crime story and briefly (1-3 sentences) explain what happened.
Next, develop a hypothesis for why what happened took place. See your textbook. I expect to see Null, Positive and Negative hypotheses. This is not your opinion but rather an educated prediction. Use the KISS rule.
Next, come up with a way to test your hypothesis and identify the independent variable (what you think the cause is), the dependent variable (what you will measure) and how you will operationalize your dependent variable (how you will measure it).

Unit VIII Scholarly Activity

Instructions

Research a carcinogen that can be classified as either an environmental or occupational toxicant that has had relevance in the news within the last five years.

In your paper, analyze and briefly summarize the situation that brought the carcinogen to newsworthy status. Discuss the exposure limits of this carcinogen, and how individuals were exposed. Also, discuss the toxicological effects that were not only observed, but all of the possible effects of this agent. In referencing Chapter 23 from your assigned reading, briefly discuss the models used for assessing cancer risks.

Your analysis should be at least three pages in length. The title page and reference page are not included in the required paper length. Your paper must contain at least three references and may include reliable internet sources, books, and professional journals or resources related to the profession. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations.

Answer this 5 questions using the provided case study.

1)    In this case study, the health department decided to follow up on the original complaint by the student and start an investigation to determine whether there was an outbreak. Under what circumstances might the health department decide not to follow-up on the complaint? Describe at least three features of a complaint that would be less likely to indicate an outbreak (hint: think about consistency and availability of information).

2)    Suppose that the initial complaint about a possible outbreak did not come from a university student, but from a middle-aged woman who lived in a single-family home with her spouse and children in a suburb of Chicago. How would your initial interview questions differ from those asked of the student? Identify at least three additional or different types of information you might try to obtain.

3)    Consider a scenario where the outbreak was water-borne rather than food-borne and was a result of exposure to contaminated swimming pool water at the university. The results of the investigation have spread by word-of-mouth among pool users and there is concern about pool safety. As the epidemiologist, you have been asked to talk to this group. Briefly discuss the information would you share with this group and identify at least three actions swimmers could take to ensure safe pool water.

4)    In this case study, possible contamination led to the temporary closing of the university cafeteria deli bar, even before the source of the outbreak had been confirmed. Now consider a scenario where the possible contamination came from a local food producer in rural Panama. This producer also supplies the local caf (the only commercial source of meals in the area) and employs about half of the local population. Would a temporary closure of the producers facilities be warranted? Why or why not? Discuss at least three potential challenges associated with the closing. In addition, analyze what the impacts would be on the ongoing investigation if the facility was not closed.

5)    There are many more ways of sharing information quickly now than there used to be. Analyze the role of social media as both a communication and a data collection tool during an outbreak investigation. In this case study, how might the epidemiologists use social media to their advantage when collecting data? Conversely, what are the limitations? Include at least two advantages and two limitations in your answer.

Prepare a 1,400- to 1,750-word paper on your perception and concept of forensic science in 21st-century criminal justice.

Include a discussion of the following questions:

How important is forensic science to policing and criminal investigations, court processes, and security efforts at various levels? Explain your rationale in a historical approach.
How accurate is the popular media representation of forensic science? How does this influence popular opinion on justice-related issues?
What possible influence does the CSI effect have on the judicial process?
Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

Do not write in 1st person, only 3rd. This is not a story. This is a survey. Be very specific.

For our written assignment for the week imagine the following scenario:

You have been asked to survey the general public about their attitudes towards punishing sex offenders. Based on what you have read this week, how would you go about surveying people about this topic? Include the type of survey (telephone, mail, email, etc) and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the method you chose. Be sure to focus on the potential strengths and weaknesses of the survey method you have chosen to help defend your decision.

I’m wanting to get an idea on how to begin my definition essay . I want to cover the importance of adopting a pet from recuse shelters rather than buying . The points I thought to make about was that buying lets say a purebred puppy could be supporting a puppy mill. Also how a pet that came from the street can make the best companion and even if they are older you are providing that animal the best last moments they may have
