3. Growth is often the product of experience. Please discuss a time when you experienced professional failure. How did this event impact your professional outlook or affect your future work.

Parkleigh Pharmacy is an upscale department store in Rochester, NY, who sells personal accessories and home decorations. Kaufmanns is a departmental store based in Pennsylvania and has several stores in Rochester, NY. Kaufmann carries broad range of products and caters middle class customers. Salesperson at Parkleigh are paid a straight hourly wage (e.g,. no sales commission) and 30% discount from purchase any product from Parkleighs store. Salesperson at Kaufmann gets an hourly wage which is lower than Parkleighs hourly wage but gets 5% commission on sales. However, salesperson doesnt get any discount on product they buy from Kaufmann. Based on the above situation answer the following questions:

1. Why does the compensation plan differ at the two firms? Explain why does Kaufmann pay sales
commission and Parkleigh doesnt? Why does Parkleigh provide discount and Kaufmann doesnt?

2. Suppose, neither of the firms pay sales commission. Parkleigh provides an hourly wage plus
employee discount and Kaufmann provides an hourly wage without any employee discount. Do
you expect Kaufmanns hourly wage to be higher or lower than Parkleighs? Why?

reveal at least three elements of the poem or story that are true about the time/culture the literary work was written in, and/or something that is autobiographical about the author that was included in the fictional story.

Im going to demonstrate this using an example from the book The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. The House on Mango Street is a coming of age story about a poor young Hispanic girl. Some elements I might research and write about would be: 1. The fact that at one point the author was a poor Hispanic girl and investigate any and all autobiographical elements that appeared in the novel 2. I might research the time, place and culture where the novel takes place and point out any parallels between the fictional world in Cisneros book and the actual world that it is based upon. 3. I might research the over arching themes of the book to see if these issues were of significance to the time/place/culture that the book is based upon.

Remember that in academic writing, you must write in 3rd person. If you turn in a paper written in first person, major point deductions will be taken from your grade. Also, know that I expect 5 to 7 full pages. This means that in order to meet the page requirement there will need to be something written on the last available line of the 5th page.  Finally be mindful of your grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. This can be an easy way to lose points fast.  I will be looking for the following as I grade your paper:

An introduction (20 pts)
A strong thesis statement (10 points)

A body covering the following: Three thoroughly researched aspects of the poem/story that are based on reality in either the authors life or the time/culture/place of which the poem/story is based.  (50 pts for content quality and organization)

A conclusion with a restatement of the thesis (20 pts)

Critical Summaries. Each week during the four week term you will copy and paste a one-page ) critical summary to our courses Moodle discussion forum by Thursday at 11:59 pm. In total you will submit four critical summariesone per week . Your critical summary should be based on one (or more) of the readings that was assigned for that week. A reading consists of a full pdf article that has been posted on Moodle. You may only use a reading that was assigned for that particular week. Your critical summary should include: 1) a brief summary of the main argument(s) of the of the reading; 2) a critical analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the argument(s), a comparison to arguments made within previous readings, or a critical analysis of the implications of the argument; and 3) three questions that are directly related to the reading, which may spark discussion. You should work to demonstrate a deep engagement with the text you are explaining and critiquing. Each part should constitute about one-third of the page. The critical summary should be written in your own words, though you may include a small amount of quoted material from the text (no more than two lines). Cite quoted material with the authors last name and page number. E.g., (Leon-Guerrero 2019, p. 213). No late critical summaries will be accepted. You will be graded based on the number of critical summaries you submit, as well as their quality. (24 points total; 6 points each)

Should decision management and decision control be separated? As part of your discussion, provide a real-world example (or provide a fictitious example) of a firm where the control (correctly) resides with the same individual as well as an example of a firm where the control is (correctly) separated.

Review for grammar errors – commas especially.

Take out the sentence in the intro that says “the goal of this argumentative essay is…” Don’t say “the goal is” or this paper will. Just be declarative. Revise these sentences.

Take out the years in the citations. Para 1 (for one example). Just say “According to remarks by Alang, McAlpine, McCreedy, & Hardeman, police brutality…. then end with the page number. So finish that sentence and just put (663). No author again since you’ve already said it. Revise all.

Work on making this a paper with YOUR ideas, not a research review. Alang should not be the basis for your para 1, for example. Your thoughts should & Alang should just support your ideas. Para 1 is more about Alang’s thoughts than yours.

Para 2 is better.

You only have 2 body paragraphs before your concession. You must have 3.

You also only have 2 sources. You must have 3. These limitations will affect your grade severely, so be sure you get it corrected by the final draft.
