Publix is using an integrated cost leadership/differentiation strategy. Describe at least two tactics it uses to differentiate itself. Then describe at least two tactics it uses to be a low-cost leader. What are some of the risks of this strategy?

he purpose of this report is to study one Jazz, Blues or Rock N’ Roll music composer/artist from any era. After you have chosen your topic and had it approved by the instructor, study your topic in depth and write a 3-5 page report about it. Your textbook provides a very thorough list of music composers. If you have interest in a composer whose name is not in the textbook, it must be approved by the instructor. It is the students responsibility to choose a topic for this report.

How to get started:

1)    Select a minimum of 60 minutes worth of music from your chosen topicand listen to the music a minimum three times through. Recordings will generally be available online, and some may be available at the library. Before choosing recordings, you should read enough about the composer to know which works are their most significant works.
2)    Read about the composers life and music. If there isnt much in the library about your composer, you can search for magazine and newspaper articles and reviews on the internet. You should spend a considerable amount of time reading, researching and learning about your topic. CD liner notes are also a good source of information, if they are provided.

3)    After your research and listening are complete, organize your notes and the music you listened to, and then answer each of the following questions in list form, in order. Keep your report at no more or less than 3-5 pages in length. No cover page is necessary.

Part I: Basic Information
Provide the following basic information about the composer, the music you listened to, and the sources you consulted:
A.  Composers full name, birth date and location, as well as death date and location (or, if still alive, where s/he lives now)

B.  A complete list of the music you listened to, including all of the following information: composition title, album name and release year

C.  Complete list of your reading resources

H.C. Robbins Landon: The Mozart Compendium (Schirmer Books)
If you read ten short magazine articles, your list would look like this:

Note: This is a book and article list rather than a full bibliography, which might be required in another course. For hardcover books, you should include the publishers name. For magazines and newspapers, give the name and issue date.
You should be able to fit all the above information onto one page. You will need the rest of the pages to answer the short essay questions from Part II below.
Part II: Short Essay questions
There are 5 questions which should fit on the remaining pages. You can write a little more for some and a little less for others. Write clearly and informatively, and be concise. Demonstrate what you have learned about your composer and his/her music.
A.  Why did you choose this composer? Had you heard this music before, or did you discover it for the first time during this project? Discuss aspects of the musical period, the style, or the musicians catalog that attracted you.

B.  Summarize important events in the composers life, such as musical family background, teachers or influences, first artistic successes, and later masterworks. Demonstrate why the composer was significant.

C.  Out of your list of songs by your composer, choose three (3) favorite pieces and write a short essay paragraph about each one. Include the following:
a.  Brief description of the work

b.  When, where, and why the work was written

c.  What you liked about the piece
        Be as specific as possible. For example, you could say, I like the way the strings played long running passages it was very exciting.
        Use the techniques we have learned in class to understand the music, and describe it in terms of its specific elements. For example, you could say, The melody was very regular, but the rhythm was syncopated and uneven.

D.  Now, of the three works you chose above, take one of your favorite pieces and answer the following question about it: How did this piece make you feel? Be subjective. You may have juxtaposed reactions, or opposite emotions such as happy/sad, relaxed/tense, light/heavy. Choose the words that best describe your feelings about the music. Relate these feelings to the elements of the music itself. For example, you could say, The slow rhythm and complex harmonies made me feel very tense. It built up to a strong climax, when suddenly, the rhythm became fast and pulsating and the harmonies changed quickly.

E.  In conclusion, think about the composer you chose and the music you listened to. Answer these questions:

How did listening to this composers music and learning about his/her life affect my appreciation of music?
What discoveries did I make about the music and about myself as a music listener?The purpose of this question is for you to journal your experience with the music.

Assignment Requirements
-Your assignment must be 3-5 pages in length (no more or less), and it must address both Part I and Part II.

– A standard writing style format is preferred but not required. Any one of the following writing styles is encouraged: MLA Format (Links to an external site.), Chicago Style, Turabian, or APA. Otherwise, keep your writing typed and double spaced, with 1-inch margins and 12p Times New Roman font.

Remember to write your final paper from a managerial prospective. You are the manager, supervisor, director, owner, etc. in charge.

The student will start their own airline company. The body of the paper will consist if the following:

1. Determine the vision of the company as a start-up.
2. What key moves will the student make to strive to be number one in the industry.

Unit 2: What Do We Mean When We Talk About Anxiety? upd. 10/6
According to a national survey published in February 2019 by the Pew Research Center, anxiety and depression rank as one of the top concerns for US teenagers. Numerous reportsincluding this one from Pewassert that anxiety was on the rise among college students prior to the pandemic, and we know that our current situation has only exacerbated this state. But what do we mean by anxiety? What feelings and experiences are encompassed by this term? What does it mean to identify as a person with anxiety? Well draw on ideas from disability studies and intersectionality in our conversations. The Unit will conclude with a formal analytical argument of 1200-1500 words worth 20 percent of the overall course grade.
What Do You Mean By A Formal Analytical Argument?
We often use the word argument to mean the exchange of strong opinions, and when writing for school, it generally refers to a persuasive essayone that has a clear thesis statement and relevant supporting evidence. In Unit 1, I pushed you to step away from that thesis-support (e.g., five-paragraph essay) style of writing in order to more fully explore and explain your thinking. The analytical argument Im asking you to write for Unit 2 will combine these modes to create a richer, more complex essay.
What Do You Mean By Analysis?
In their textbook Writing Analytically David Rosenwasser and Jill Stephen offer this four-part definition of analysis, which is worth quoting at length:
1. Analysis seeks to discover what something means. An analytical argument makes claims for how something might be best understood and in what context.
2. Analysis deliberately delays evaluation and judgment.
3. Analysis begins in and values uncertainty rather than starting from settled convictions.
4. Analytical arguments are usually pluralistic; they tend to try on more than one way of thinking about
how something might be best understood. (Rosenwasser and Stephen 6-7)
Analysis, then, starts with inquiry: questions followed by careful observation. To delay evaluation and judgment requires that we acknowledge and bracket our gut reactionswe must stay with the problem longer, seeing it from every possible perspective, considering what may seem counterintuitive. Only then can we arrive at a reasoned, thoughtful conclusion.

Your analysis will focus on one specific conversation about anxiety. That conversation may have taken place in a more traditional magazine or newspaper, on social media, on a cable news show, or elsewhere. How Should I Cite My Sources?
Youll need to use formal MLA citation style for this essay. I ask two things of each of you.  First, consider if YOU are truly a critical thinker.  Do you meet the standards of critical thinking listed under the result section on the “Why critical thinking” page of your booklet?  Do YOU adhere to any of the “It’s true statements…” listed on the “Problem of egocentric thinking” page?  Are YOU truly a critical thinker or do you simply want to believe that you are?  Is it a good thing to be a critical thinker?  If yes, why?  If no, why not?

Second, please thoughtfully and thoroughly read the “Universal Intellectual Standards” pages in your booklet and provide us your thoughts and feelings.  Furthermore, discuss which universal intellectual standard listed you believe is the most difficult to apply to critical thinking?  Why?

In our first discussion on critical thinking, we established that there are some serious flaws in our patterns of thinking.  We even supported the idea that much of our non-assessed thinking is biased, partial and prejudiced.  Consider some of the ramifications of this reality. Remember that our thinking affects every aspect of our life including our personal relationships, level of success at work, and even how we view the world, others and even ourselves.

Note on the bottom of the page titled, Why Critical Thinking?  in the Miniature Guide to Critical Thinking that a higher level  of thinking (i.e., critical thinking) is self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored, and self-corrective.  In other words, each of us individually becomes ultimately responsible for how we think!  We cannot and should not allow others to do our thinking for us.  In addition, we should often critique our thinking and try to improve it (some of the ways we can do this are detailed in the bullets under the Result section).

I believe critical thinking is not necessarily an easy thing to do.  Indeed, it can be very trying and difficult.  For example, how comfortable are we admitting that we are potentially wrong in our ideas and beliefs about self, others, or the worlds issues?  Most of us not only want to believe we are right, we actually believe we are right without question!

Lets skip ahead a few pages in the Miniature guide to critical thinking by going to the page titled, The problem of egocentric thinking.  As before, please thoughtfully and thoroughly read this page and provide us your thoughts and feelings.  Before responding in a forum posting, consider if any of the Its true because statements have or currently apply to YOU and your thinking?  If so, why?  Also, what if anything will you do about it from this point forward?
