Review Topic 3

Topic 3: The Social Institutions and Health: Religion and Spirituality
Religious participation is increasingly associated with numerous health and well-being outcomes. Discuss the links between religious beliefs and physical health and/or mental health outcomes. In your answer you must refer to the readings listed below:
Required readings:
Koenig, H.G., 2012. Religion, spirituality, and health: The research and clinical implications. International Scholarly Research Notices, 2012.
Houston, M., 2019. The complex relationship between religion and mental health,
The Irish Times  (issue 12 Aug, 2019). Available at:  https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/health-family/the-complex-relationship-between-religion-and-mental-health-1.3977591

Academic writing style. Citations: harvard style. 1000 words only, the reminder of 100  words can be put towards references list at the end, and as for the left over words of the 100  you can just leave it. As long as the assignment is 1000words I’ll be happy out.

Draw from Campbell’s Evolution of Mass Communication (2017), Nashs Wilderness & The American Mind (2014), Urry & Larsens The Tourist Gaze 3.0 (2011), “#Vanlife” (2017) and “Recreating Wilderness 2.0” (2016) to answer this question:

How has the evolution in media technology changed humans imagination of, and interaction with, the Wild? What is the resulting impact on the Wild? Trace the changes from premodern  (Links to an external site.)times, to modern and postmodern  (Links to an external site.)times
***The first hyperlink inserted above (a Youtube lecture) gives you a quick and dirty breakdown of the differences between premodern, modern, and postmodern times; the second hyperlink (a Purdue University course webpage) gives a helpful timeline of the evolution from premodern/oral society to modern/print and postmodern/electronic-digital times

By media technology, I am mainly referring to communication technology (e.g. organic/interpersonal/mass/digital media or logistical/recording/transmission media), but you could also define it broadly to include production technology (e.g. hunting/herding/farming/industrial production methods) and transportation technology (e.g. walks/trains/ships/cars/planes), both of which has communicative and structuring functions.
Please define the concept of the Wild. Is it a noun, an adjective, or both? Is it a place, an animal, a quality, an idea, or a mindset?
Evoke as many key concepts and arguments from the readings as you can. Add page numbers to where the quotes come from.
Draw as many connections and comparisons between the readings as you can.
Create a personalized title, a unique thesis, and organize the essay in the most intriguing and insightful way you can. Be creative.

Write a 200 word analysis that answers one of the following questions:

According to the speaker, how should a person face death? Explain your answer in detail.

Consider the time period during which McKay wrote If We Must Die. How might the social conditions of the era and McKays experience as a black writer in Harlem have informed his views on death and bravery?

In the context of this poem, what does it mean to be brave? Cite evidence from this text, and other literature, art, or history in your answer.

1. Watch the film Whos Counting, while watching, answer the following questions:
2. Note the problems Marilyn Waring discusses with respect to the use of GDP as our measure of economic progress.
3. List the problems that she discusses.
4. At one point in the film, Waring makes a number of comparisons, each time ending with the statement This is war. What comparisons does she make?
5. This film was made in 1995, and yet, I show it in class in 2021. Are the topics discussed in the film still relevant?
6. Write a question based on the film that you would like to see

write 200250 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.

For this Discussion Board, please complete the following:

Tina is a coffee drinker and does not like to make coffee at home. Her favorite coffee is Starbucks. She buys Starbucks at least three times a week. Reviewing the Product, one of the four Ps of Marketing, what is Tina buying and is the customer demand being fulfilled? Why or why not?

Tip: A product is a good or service that a company offers, fulfilling a customer demand.

The essay should be one cohesive paper with accurately documented sources in APA format. You should not number each point, but rather incorporate each seamlessly in your essay.

1.Specifically citing your reading material for this module, please explain the key difference between the “action” of stimulant drugs such as Ritalin, and the “effects” of these drugs.

2.What does the drastic increase in Ritalin (and other stimulants) prescriptions for children tell us about the way that we regard children in American society? For example, is the drug treatment of childhood behavioral problems a sign that we have become more sensitive to the mental health needs of children, or, does this demonstrate an increasing lack of tolerance for typical childhood behavior? Please explain.

3.The TED Talk for this module argues that ADHD is not a mental disorder requiring medication, but rather, a difference in cognition. Do you agree or disagree with this assertion? Evaluate the merits of this argument.

4.Based upon the fact that 90% of children who are prescribed stimulant medications for behavioral problems are boys, explain this gender difference from a sociological viewpoint. For example, is this simply a matter of different brain chemistry between boys and girls, or, is the high rate of stimulant drug prescriptions for boys an example of gender discrimination? Please explain.

5.As ADHD is most commonly diagnosed in the school system, please recommend at least three policy changes that can help us assist such children, especially those children that are struggling academically and socially.

In an essay, answer one (1) question from the list of several questions:

ENUMERATE THE ANSWER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE ESSAY.

1. Discuss the origins, spread, and fracturing of Protestantism between 1517 and 1550. Be sure to note: 1) the theological and/or organizational differences among the various Protestant leaders and their churches; and 2) specifically where in Europe their new churches take hold and what political factors influence the process of ecclesiastical change.

2. Discuss the Catholic Churchs official responses to the rise of the call for reform in the Lateran Council (1512-1517) and Council of Trent (1545-1563). Why does the former council fail to stop what becomes known as Protestantism? Why does the latter council take so long to begin? Be sure to identify and discuss those things the Council of Trent changes and those it does not. Why does it change what it changes? Why does it not change other things?

3. In what ways was the European exploration and conquest of large parts of the New World after 1490 driven by the intersecting motivations of religion and politics at home in Europe? How did these varying motivations help drive the Columbian Exchange? What was the latter? How did human trafficking become an integral element therein? (This question does not violate what I said about the exams coverage. This material was assigned reading from Hunt and comes specifically from the period of the Reformation and the Catholic response.)

4. Identify and discuss the preconditions which, combined, create the possibility for a religious explosion in the Western Europe of the early 16th Century. (Nota bene: Mere identification of the preconditions simply by listing them will not suffice.)
