Write a coherent essay in response to one of the following questions.  Support your statements with reference to pertinent historical examples, and make use of Hew Strachans The First World War if and when suitable.

Since at least some major powers wanted to avoid war in the years before 1914, how can you account for the fact that war came in 1914?  Why and how did efforts to avoid war fail?  And why were the combatants not able to bring the war to some sort of negotiated conclusion rather than drag it on with such a huge loss of life?

    or

Some important countries “sat out” much of World War I notably, Italy, the United States, and Japan.  How crucial was this fact in determining the nature and course of the war?  And what was the effect of early withdrawals from the war, such as Russia’s?

Is there a main thesis to Hew Strachans The First World War?  Does Strachan believe that the war was unavoidable, a clash of inexorable forces set against one another?  Did the actions of individual leaders matter?  If so, up to (or down to) what level?  If not, why not?  Were leaders able to stay in control of the process of war?  Were they able to make the war serve their nations valid purposes?

In any given classroom, you will find students with a variety of learning needs, abilities, cultures, and experiences that affect how they learn and behave in the classroom. When students are attentive, focused, and engaged, they are more likely to understand and process information from lessons and learning activities. Positive behavior in the classroom often leads to academic success. How can you encourage your students to be attentive and engaged in the classroom? One way that effective teachers do this is by applying multi-tiered systems of supports (MTSS).

In the course, you learned about MTSS and strategies for implementing multi-tiered interventions to help all students learn and avoid exclusionary discipline and engage appropriately in classroom activities. In this task, you will apply what you learned in the course about appropriate learning interventions and positive behavioral interventions at each tier.

Your submission must be your original work. No more than a combined total of 30% of the submission and no more than a 10% match to any one individual source can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. The originality report that is provided when you submit your task can be used as a guide.

Now that you have selected a topic, you will need to find and explore one perspective on the issue. This means that your source must take a stance on the issue.  A news article that reports events or a book review will not serve the purposes of this paper. You will need to find a source that argues a point.  It will likely be one source; however, if you have two sources that offer similar perspectives you might include both. 
In this paper you must incorporate summary, paraphrase and quotations.
    Summary: Key points of essay in your own words
    Paraphrase: A focused rephrasing of a particular passage
    Quotations: Words from the author (should be in nuggets)

In most cases long quotes, especially block quotes, are too excessive for a summary. 
I will be looking for a proper introduction to the piece and a clear concise explanation of the source.  Please provide a works cited page as well.

Please watch at least ONE episode of the TV program: “The First 48.” This program is aired on the A&E Channel. You can also view full episodes on the A&E website if the TV schedule is inconvenient for you.

While watching the program I want you to keep track of the dynamics between the police officers and the community. Take into account where the crimes are committed, how they go about finding witnesses and suspects, and how well (or not) the community cooperates with them.

The program will tell you the city in which the particular case is in, so I also want you to do some research on that city for your paper. Please find out the city’s population, and most importantly, find out about the police department, and try including crime rate data, if possible.

In your essay I want you to discuss the “Community Policing” element. Discuss the relationship (if any) the detectives had with the community. Were the residents cooperative? How about the interrogation process (if any)? Were the police officers effective in their approach?  Please also include the episode name number and air date

Please do not take too much time summarizing the episode for me. I’ve seen the episode! I’m mostly interested in gauging how well you are able to incorporate issues and perspectives learned in this course (so far) to a REAL-LIFE situation.

So basically, I want a commentary on your part where you are analyzing the police and their tactics and strategies based on the knowledge you have gained so far. You can comment on the residents as well.

Please remember to CITE YOUR SOURCES OF INFORMATION. Not just in the reference section of your paper, but WITHIN the paper as well. If you state a fact, you must cite where you got that fact from!  MINIMUM 3 SOURCES.
