1.  Regrettably, systematic planning is not something that most negotiators do willingly.  What are some of the consequences that the authors point out as being the result of failed planning?  Discuss using examples that you have seen.

2.  Perception, cognition, and emotion are the basic building blocks of all social encounters.  How does a working knowledge of how people perceive the world, process information and experience emotions prove important in negotiations?  Can this knowledge be used in your favor?  How?

Think about a situation you are familiar with in which a leader was very ineffective. This could be a current or former manager, teacher/professor, friend, parent or anyone you know who was put in a Leadership position. This does not necessarily mean this was a bad person, just that they performed poorly as a leader given the situation they were put in.

Step 1 – Answer the following questions:

What sources of power did this leader have?

Did the leader have enough power to influence his or her followers?

What kinds of behaviors did this leader engage in?

Were they appropriate for the situation? Why or why not?

In your opinion, do you think this leader was a task-oriented leader or a relationship-oriented leader?

What steps did this leader take to motivate his or her followers?

Were these steps appropriate or inappropriate? Why?

What signs, if any, did this leader show of being a transformational leader?

answer each question individually no less than 300 words

You will use the case study and the questions that follow to write an APA-formatted paper with title page, proper headings, citations, and proper writing mechanic, grammar, and syntax. The paper needs to be double spaced and the last page needs to be an APA References page. Your response to each question must be a minimum of 5 well-constructed sentences. Provide citations for all responses.

For this paper, you will list the questions in 12-point, single-spaced Times New Roman bold font. The responses will then appear in regular, double-spaced 12-point Times New Roman font. If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Case Study: Sherman Red Yoder
I understand you want to hear my story; well Im not much for talking, but I can give you the highlights. Theres a lot thats happened over my 80 years. From the top. My name is Sherman Yoder, but I answer to Red. No one around here even remembers my real name. I was born in this house in the downstairs bedroom. Mom had already delivered six kids and there was no way I was waiting for Dad to finish feeding the hogs and get Mom to town before I come out. Mom used to love to tell that story.

Dad bought this farmhouse and the first hundred acres right before he went off to WWI. The folks saw good times and bad in this ol place and so have I. All my brothers and sisters left the land as soon as they could. I was the only one of the lot to care about this place and want to carry on what Dad started. I really havent gone far from this spot in my entire life. The one time I got it in my head to try something different, I wound up in Korea with an Army uniform on. I was glad to get back to this place after that stint and here Ive been ever since.

Married the neighbor girl Bessie when I got back. Her dad wasnt so sure that it would work out since she was 8 years younger than me and she intended to go off to the state college. We sure did prove him wrong; we celebrated our 50th anniversary the week before Bessie died. The ladies at the church had the hall all decorated up and we brought Bessie home from the hospital for the afternoon. She was bound and determined to live for that day; no way did she want her friends to go to that much work for her to not show up. I couldnt believe it when the ladies had to prepare for the reception after we buried Bessie in that same hall one week later. We had such a good life together. That was 10 years ago.

I dont do much of the farm work anymore. Our son Jon takes care of the crops and the few animals we have. I still go out to the hen house every morning to collect the eggs. Im a little stiff in the morning, but I get loosened up enough to walk out to gather some fresh eggs to go with my bacon for breakfast. I get in to town at least once a week; on Monday morning me and my buddies meet at the VFW for our coffee and donut break. I get caught up on all the town gossip and we laugh and bellyache about whats going on in the world.

Three weeks ago I celebrated my 80th birthday. My daughter-in-law, Judy, organized a big to do at the church after the Sunday service with cake and ice cream and all the fixins for my party. I had a big piece of cake but skipped the ice cream. Doc Baker was there and I knew he would scold me about too much sugar. Six months ago he told me I had diabetes and I started taking a pill for it, but a few weeks ago he put me on insulin. I figure I should be able to eat what I want; come on, Im not going to live forever, and it was my favorite cake, German chocolate. I ate it in the kitchen so the Doc wouldnt see me; wouldnt you know, his office nurse Helen came in the kitchen with a load of dishes just as I was putting the last bite in my mouth. She just winked at me and smiled.

After the party, I went out to the mall with Jon and the grandkids. Im not one for shopping much, but I needed a new ink cartridge for my printer and the computer store is the one place I like to look around in. Too bad we parked clear on the other end of the mall so the kids could go by their favorite stores for Grandpa to buy them a little something. Jon got real mad at me when I asked if I could sit and rest for a while, so I just kept walking. I guess my new shoes were a little tight; I didnt feel anything but when I got home there was some blood on my sock, and then I saw a sore on my big toe. It must not be too bad since its not hurting except when I try to put my shoes on.

I showed the sore to Jon and Judy the other day and Judy said she would call the doctor to see what she should put on it. Jon gets so irritated when I need extra help; I hope I can just continue to soak my foot in hot water to clean it out. Judy was a nursing assistant out at the old folks home for many years; Im hoping she will be able to help me with this. I like the idea of the home nurses coming out here as long as my VA benefits pay for it. That way they can see that Im doing just fine living here on my own.

I was searching on the Internet for the best way to treat this sore; there are so many sites that talk about foot sores if youre a diabetic. Some of those pictures are pretty scary; I cant sleep at night thinking about what could happen if this doesnt heal. Of course, I havent slept through the night for years. Even the couple of beers I have at night when Im on the computer dont seem to be helping anymore. Judy sometimes gives the kids Benadryl to help them sleep so Ive been taking a couple when I go to bed; they seem to help me sleep a little better.

As a matter of fact, I need to wrap this up now. I promised Jack, my grandson in college, that Id Skype him in a few minutes. He just started the agronomy program at the university. I love to hear about what hes learning and give him encouragement to come back to the farm.

Interpret psychological data using quantitative and qualitative methods
Apply the principles of statistical methods to inform a research problem

Scenario:
You work for a market research company that supplies information to non-profit organizations throughout the nation. Your supervisor has asked you to provide an objective description of the data that will provide information regarding how to target different audiences in ways that bring about empathy. This will help your business support non-profit organizations in obtaining donations. You will create a short memorandum that includes graphical representations of your data in order to communicate this information.

Introduction: Describe the purpose of your memo and the plan to address the scenario in 1 to 3 sentences.

Conclusions: Describe your findings in an executive summary of 4 to 6 sentences. Include the following in your conclusions:
The main points you want to convey to your audience
Rationale for your points in the form of data summaries

Main Analysis: Describe the summary statistics and frequency distributions, taking into account the scale of measurement for your data. Refer to the graphs you created. Your main analysis section should be about 2 to 5 sentences.

Graph One: Create a graphical representation of the qualitative (nominal and often ordinal) data to support your main analysis. Ensure your graph meets the following criteria:
You include a narrative to introduce your graph into your memo.
Your graph is accurate and objective.
Your graph appropriately represents the data.
You use the appropriate type of graph for the data.
  Your graph is labeled appropriately.

Graph Two: Create a graphical representation of the quantitative (interval and/or ratio) data to support your main analysis. Ensure your graph meets the following criteria:
You include a narrative to introduce your graph into your memo.
Your graph is accurate and objective.
Your graph appropriately represents the data.
You use the appropriate type of graph for the data.
  Your graph is labeled appropriately.

Recommendations: Describe the actions you believe your audience should take in 2 to 5 sentences.

Limitations: Describe the limitations of both your data and your summaries in 1 to 3 sentences.

Race & Ethnicity in the Media
No unread replies.No replies.
For this discussion I want you to analyze how the media depicts race/ethnicity in various ways. I’ve prepared a template Preview the document for you to use in order to organize the data you will collect.

1. First, list your three favorite television shows. For each show, identify the racial/ethnic makeup of the main actors (these should be the leading men and/or women that people consider the “stars” of the show).

2. Next, list race/ethnicity of the supporting cast members.

3. Watch these shows during the week and make sure to watch the commercials. Document the racial/ethnic makeup of the actors in each commercial.

4. Tabulate the data using the template I’ve prepared and discuss the differences between the main actors, supporting cast, and actors in the commercials.

5. Did you observe any instances of stereotyping on the shows you watched? Describe your findings in detail. Be sure to note if your findings from the commercials do or do not correlate with the actors in the shows.

6. When you post your discussion response be sure to attach your completed table in order to receive full credit.
