QUESTIONS, REFLECTIONS, & COMMENTS (QRCS)
Please make a post offering at least two thoughtful and
substantive questions, reflections, or comments (QRCs) inspired by your engagement with the material below.

— At least one of the QRCs must explicitly identify a passage( quote a passage and then respond to it)  from the reading attached that you found intriguing, confusing, enlightening, etc. to lift up for consideration. You should quote the passage in full in your post along with a clear citation so others can easily find it in the text, and briefly explain your reasons for highlighting this passage this can come in the form of substantive questions about, interpretations of, or challenges to the ideas expressed in the passage.

For the second QRC, you may choose to lift up another passage, but you are not
required to do so. Instead you may choose to offer a more general question about the
ideas under consideration, a reaction to the podcast lecture, an argument you are trying
to work out, or a connection you have made, or events in the world. In other words, each paper should have two clearly distinct QRCs, at least one of which lifts up a passage from the text.

Also, I attached(The screenshot below) an example of what the post you are gonna make should look like.

Answer the following questions:

1) What are the advantages/disadvantages of voting for a party vs, a candidate?

2) Why would a country have a bicameral legislature? What are the advantages/disadvantages?

3) Parliamentary coalitions can be hard to manage.  What might be some advantages of a coalition government?

What did you learn this week about how the Constitution is designed?  What are the key components of the Constitution, and how does it frustrate change? How does federalism in the United States work?  In what ways does the The Storm reflect the costs and benefits of federalism?  Again, be specific in your use of examples.

Imagine your area is in a state of emergency and you are concerned about the balance of liberty and security as people try to return to their normal lives, recover what was lost, and rebuild what was destroyed.

Compose an email you could send to elected officials to voice your concerns. Use this Template. Your email should include positions on two of the potential issues related to civil liberties found below and an explanation of how you would plan to restore those rights after the situation has ended.

Steps
Write an introductory paragraph for your email that explains why rights are not absolute. Include how the Constitution safeguards and limits individual rights.
Imagine that the following situations have occurred in your community following the disaster. Select two of the following situations to address and evaluate in your email:
The government has determined that certain business must be shut down to reduce the spread of disease during a pandemic.
The government imposed curfews to prevent protests becoming violent and destructive at night.
The government suspended the right of habeas corpus (the right to see a judge after arrest to determine if imprisonment is lawful).
The government forced people to evacuate from their homes.
Citizens were denied the right to bring legally owned firearms to storm shelters.
The government made certain dangerous areas off-limits, which prevented residents from accessing their homes and personal property.
The federal and state courts postponed scheduled criminal and civil trials due to the emergency.
The government prevented the press from publishing graphic photos of victims of the natural disaster to protect the privacy of the victims family.
The federal government stated that local and state governments are solely responsible for the disaster recovery efforts and that it will not be providing assistance.
Once you have chosen the concerns you wish to address, compose a well-written response to each situation with the following information:
the Constitutional amendment that relates to the situation
arguments that could be made for or against the action that took place
your position on how to resolve the situation and the reasons you think officials should agree with you

Focused Current Event Article Discussion 2: American Citizenship Test and Reflection

Instructions: This is a 2 part focused writing assignment. I will provide the context, necessary information, background, as well as links and resources, needed to comply with the minimum requirements necessary to participate and complete this assignment. If you are aiming for an A or B on this assignment, I do expect that you will include additional resources and research links. These do not have to be a laundry list.  More is not better. Direct and to the point is key.  I expect additional resources be properly cited, at the end of your part 1 critical analyses.

Part 1: Choose a Prompt and Post Reply

Minimum length of analysis is 1 page double spaced, or half page single spaced. Type it first in a word document for reference. Then, copy and paste. Formatting standards: 12 point font, times new roman, double spaced ( if 1 full page in word) otherwise single spaced (equivalent to half page in word). Must include properly formatted citations for any and all resources, links and information publications, used in your research, as well as incorporated as supporting evidence, for your critique and analysis.

I expect you to incorporate information, offering supporting evidence specifically from at least one or more of independently researched resources and links, to be discussed, mentioned and cited within either your part 1 or part 2 post, if not both.  You can just note the source when citing parenthetically, within your analyses, as long as you provide a full title, and link to the information source, listed at the end of your reply. This is what will earn you a A or B grade.

Part 2:  Critique and Rebuttal

You will not be able to review posts submitted by your peers, until you yourself have submitted your critical analysis, for Part 1.

Review your classmates posts. Select one to offer a rebuttal or critique.

Selection Criteria and Post Formatting Requirements-

Cannot choose to reply to post of someone who shares your same prompt or your same position and analyses. You only have to do this once, but I encourage you all to reply and post to as many classmates posts to enhance discussion to make the course more engaging.
