The historical record bears witness to the fact that there have been people with significant addictions who have functioned at very high levels and accomplished brilliant things.  This week’s exploration of cocaine reminds us that that Sigmund Freud, the creator of the “talking cure – psychoanalysis –  was a cocaine user.  Freud is reputed to have remarked that cocaine made him feel the way he thought he ought to feel.  He recommended cocaine use to his friends.  The fictional character Sherlock Holmes is portrayed as a cocaine user.  The makers of the film “The Seven Per Cent Solution” put these two coincidences to good use and created a fictional encounter between Freud and Holmes, who seeks Freud out to save him from his overwhelming addiction.  It makes for good fun and adventure and a happy intersection of historical fact and creative imagination.

The question this raises is, to what degree is drug dependence inherently disabling?  Often, reading the biography of a famous person, surprising details emerge.  We know of the drinking behaviours of Canada’s first Prime Minister, John A. Macdonald, and Britain’s war-time PM, Winston Churchill.  But substance use and related problems are part of the biographies of people such as Jean Paul Sartre and Jean Cocteau.  In the fiction of John Irving we encounter an ether-using doctor in The Cider House Rules.  William Burroughs, author of Naked Lunch, was a heroin user and a methadone patient.  Recently, I learned of a baseball player who pitched a perfect game while under the influence of LSD.  His name was Doc Ellis.  A documentary on his life played  at the Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival at the TIFF Light Box in 2014.  Have a look at this short film to get Doc’s version of events.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vUhSYLRw14&t=1s

YOUR JOB IS to add to the list of successful people who have had substance use problems.  Draw from historical figures, contemporary figures, and even from fictional characters. Come up with at least 4-6 people!!

please answer all the questions below after reading the article

1. This question refers to the Clerkin & Smith (2019) paper we discussed in class. Refer to this article in your answer.

What are some strengths of the research:

A. Define one type of research validity and/or reliability, Explain how the method used in Clerkin & Smith (2019) paper is reliable/valid, according to your definition.

B.  Define a second type of research validity/reliability OR ethical consideration. Explain how the method used in Clerkin & Smith (2019) is reliable/valid/ethical, according to your definition.

2. Clerkin & Smith found the infant’s visual world is cluttered with ~9 objects per frame, a few words and FOV objects are frequent and naming visually frequent objects is rare, but because the objects are frequent its likely that they will be in the FOV when named.

A. What are the implications of this research; why is it important?

B. Who would benefit from knowing about the research/implications; how would they benefit from this information?

3. Clerkin and Smith used infant-perspective head-mounted cameras to record infants’ natural, daily experiences. What other method could have been used to test their research question? How might this other method change the pattern of results?

Most would agree that parenting is a lifelong job. The parents obligations begin once the baby is conceived and seemingly never end, even after his or her child becomes an adult.
Suppose that you are the parent in each of the following scenarios. Based on what you have learned from this units materials, answer the following questions for each scenario by explaining how you would effectively handle each situation.

Note: While it is understood different people and even entire cultures have different parenting styles, your answers should be based on the research and theories presented in this unit.
Describe the stage of cognitive development of the child in each scenario.
Explain how you would address the child and the situation. Will you use punishment in any of the situations? What tactics would be the most useful considering your childs level of cognitive development?

Scenario 1: Jimmy screams when the batteries die on his Avengers motorcycle. Previously, his mother had been able to put the motorcycle away and have Jimmy immediately engage in playing with something else. However, she has noticed that he is not doing that this time. He continues to scream even though the motorcycle has been put in a drawer. As his parent, how would you respond?

Scenario 2: An 8-year-old boy and his 10-year-old brother are told to share three cans of soda pop. The 8-year-old becomes angry when his 10-year-old brother takes two of the cans and gives the 8-year-old only one can. The 10-year-old grabs two glasses and pours one soda into the two glasses and gives it to the 8-year-old. Everything is fine now as they both have two soda pop drinks. How do you address each child?

Scenario 3: Your 21-year-old daughter comes home from college and excitedly shares that she is quitting school to invest more time in her social media career. In fact, she reveals that she will be quitting school, despite only having 1 year left to complete her bachelors degree. (She does not see the need for her degree any longer, as her Instagram followers have increased exponentially since she has begun doing some of the popular Tik Tok challenges.) She has decided to throw away her former career plans and become a full-time social media influencer. Now, her life is all set! (What is your reaction?)

Your combined answers for each scenario must be at least 150 words, for a minimum of 450 words for the entire assignment (not including the title and reference pages).

Your answers should include an insightful and thorough analysis and present a strong argument with evidence. You must use at least one source to support your analysis. This may be your textbook or another scholarly source. All sources used will be properly cited. Your case study, including all references, will be formatted in APA style.

These days, its virtually impossible not to use or at least be aware of the myriad of social networking sites.  Certainly, these sites have opened the doors to worldwide communication and a feeling of connectivity to others.  On the other hand, social networking sites may also contribute to a sense of isolation and an increase in loneliness across the age spectrum for both young and old.

Question:  How, specifically, do social networking sites contribute to a sense of isolation and an increase in feelings of loneliness?  Do you believe the benefits of social networking sites outweigh the negative aspects?  Should there be a minimum age requirement to use social networking sites?  Why or why not?  What special problems have social networking sites created?  Be sure to fully explain your answer, using examples (which can include those from your own life if you want to share) and additional sources, as necessary, to support your discussion.

First Respond
Reading both the peer review article and the popular media article, both want to convey around the same message. But the peer review article was more structured and well organized. The article had charts that were labeled, cited their work. They had detailed summary of the information that they were giving. As to the popular media article did not have detailed information, just given numbers and citations on where these number came from. One major point I wound ensure was communicated accurately to the general audience is the basis information that is not given. The information that people would have to search for. I would made sure it is a small excerpt stating that provided if the reader wanted to research it more. Basis is why it is important to refer to empirical studied when there are claims in poplar media. The reader is able to see, search and find an opposing angel to the story. The concept of psychological studies in the media apply to Ethics. It is also the writers ethical responsibility to publish facts that are truthful and are scientifically proven but the does not always happen. So it is the readers ethical responsibility to research the information that the are given and not take it a face value.

Remember to respond to two peers while being respectful of and sensitive to their viewpoints. Consider advancing the discussion in the following ways:

Post an article, video, or additional research to reinforce a peers idea or challenge them to see their point from a different perspective.
Engage in conversation with your peers around the concept of psychological studies in the media.

Second Respond
The first peer-reviewed journal article described in the abstract what the study was pursuing and how it does not conclude the hypothesis. The journal article is specifically researching acute tryptophan depletions stopped the punishmentinducing inhibition and had no impact on the overall motor response. The Journalists summary claimed to increase serotonin by eating cheese, with data that assumes or links this by correlation.

In a peer-reviewed journal article, avoiding oversights like in a media clickbait article is important. To do this, the researchers will need to state the clear hypothesis both the independent and dependent variables, the study should also include the method and conclusion determining the confounding variables.

The media consistently is creating clickbait titles and entertaining posts for the average person to assume conclusions. If a media post is not supported by research or observational experiments, using methods and results then it is not a valid study or claim.

This concept of psychological studies in media would apply to the ethics course theme. There should be formal ethics or laws in place with the media portraying correlations as true. Although, the media could argue the freedom of the press. I do think the claims are harmful to individuals that dont look for further research and take the media claims as valid. This could result In harmful information rather than helpful.

could you add on to this page of my case study and answer these questions. We don’t really have to use resource , also you can write up to two pages
