Monitoring Our Home Planet

The Internet is a powerful tool that provides the ability to monitor natural phenomena and disasters that happen all over planet Earth.

In this assignment, you will research resources available on the Internet for monitoring natural phenomena including earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, global climate, and weather.

Based on your research, do the following:

Identify a minimum of three different natural phenomena that are typically responsible for natural disasters. Analyze the potential impact of these disasters.
Analyze how these phenomenon are monitored, or not, via the Internet. Critique available Web sites, which publicly display up-to-date monitored information related to each of the natural phenomena you have identified. Focus on the following aspects:
Geography
What parts of the world are potentially affected by these phenomena? Specifically identify the countries.
Resources
What kinds of resources are allocated toward monitoring these phenomena and why?
What types of Web resources monitor the phenomena and provide up-to-date information about them?
What kinds of technology are involved in monitoring the phenomena?
Politics
What political ramifications would this disaster-preparedness technology cause between more-developed countries and less-developed countries?
What kinds of issues could this technology cause between less-developed countries?
Economics
How would this technology directly impact the economies of those countries that have the technology versus those countries that do not?
Do you predict any indirect impacts? What current evidence supports your position?
Disaster Preparedness
What types of systems are in place in terms of disaster preparedness related to these monitored phenomena?
Summarize your findings. Evaluate how this technology will impact the future of humanity, both positively and negatively. Be sure to consider the political and economic issues discussed in your future predictions.
Support your statements with examples. Use a minimum of six reliable references, two of which should be peer-reviewed articles.

Module 3 – Assessment Task 8 – Activity 8.1 – Business Plan and Budget

Key requirements/specific instructions:

1. In order to ensure that your business is able to hit the ground running, you decide to complete a comprehensive business plan and budget to guide the establishment and growth of your business. As a minimum, your business plan and budget must address:

Consultation processes for the establishment and growth of the business, including the range of persons and organisations to be consulted
Key performance indicators and other measurements to be used to monitor business growth, progress, and the achievement of organisational objectives
Contingency plans to be implemented in the event that the business does not achieve its goals, including lack of start-up capital and insufficient income
2. Resourcing requirements for establishment and growth for the first 12 months of operation, including:

Premises and facilities
Equipment
Human resources
External contractors and services
3. A detailed budget which clearly specifies the required capital for start-up based on the determined resource requirements, as well as the ongoing income required based on the estimated resources requirements for the first 12 months of operation

4. A balance sheet displaying the assets and liabilities relevant to the business upon start-up

5. Performance management and review processes for monitoring the progress and success of the organisation

6. Record keeping requirements for all operational and financial documentation, including:

Sales and expenses
GST and PAYG payments
Superannuation contributions
Public Liability, Professional Indemnity and WorkCover Insurance
Any relevant permits and licenses
7. Once the business plan and budget have been completed, prepare a cover letter to accompany the documents when providing them to relevant stakeholders. These persons could include accountants, solicitors, or managers which you intend to hire. The purpose of the cover letter is to seek approval and support for the implementation of the business plan.

Module 3 – Assessment Task 8 – Activity 8.2 – Financial Evaluation

Your business has now been operating for 12 months. Unfortunately, your business is not progressing according to your business plan and budget. Actual income is 15% below the initial estimates, while staffing costs have blown out by 25%. There have also been significant cost blowouts on construction projects due to the ordering of excess materials which are then disposed of without being used on additional projects.

Key requirements/specific instructions:

1. In order to address the financial issues which have plagued your business, you decide to conduct a full evaluation of the organisation’s financial strategy. As a minimum, this evaluation must include:

A strategy for monitoring expenditure to ensure that costs are managed effectively
Contingency plans to be implemented as a means of controlling business expenses
An updated balance sheet showing updated assets and liabilities, using an electronic spreadsheet
Modifications required to the business plan to ensure that the business is profitable and remains viable
Modifications required to Performance Indicators
Training strategy for underperformers
2. Once the financial evaluation is complete, prepare a cover letter to your accountant explaining the evaluation and the results, providing a summary of the actions to be taken to improve the organisation’s financial position and the associated changes to the business plan.

The energy sector is not only challenged by the transition from the fossil fuel and nuclear energy age to the solar and efficient energy age, but also by the ongoing digital transformation. Decentralized energy production e.g. with PV-systems enable the consumer to take an active role within the energy value chain (“prosumer”). Due to the unpredictability of the increasing renewable energy production and to balance the load on the grid, more focus is put on the demand side management of private households. On the other side new information technology concepts such as smart grid, smart metering and smart home are going to change, the way energy providers create their business value.

The journal can focus on business model transformation of (traditional) energy provider or smart energy start-ups – new business models:

a. Market analysis of (new) business models of energy providers or smart energy start ups

b. Analysis of relevant technology enabler and their impact on existing business models and their potential for new business model developments

c. Development of possible new business models for smart energy

d. The business models can be structured with the business model canvas by Osterwalder and Pigneur.

Could you please identify the best ideas that software companies are using when they do their agile product releases.  How do they communicate internally to their employees and how do they communicate externally to their clients and to their prospects.  Could you please find some interesting ideas of what tools and what techniques those companies could use for their release/deployment tools.

Some examples of tools that could be used are using an interactive wall (https://en.interactive-wall.com/home) in the coffee room so the sales people could see the new features that were added to the applications on the wall and that would attract their attention.

Another example could be a huge countdown timer placed in some of the meeting rooms to show how many days is left before the next release.

Printing out some posters could be another idea, those posters would inform the sales people about the upcoming releases, new functionalities and release’s dates and relevant meeting venues.

You could also mention some software that would help to automatize updating of documents like datasheets etc. that are being updated after the release and they need to send to be send to other employees. There should be many different examples. You should be very creative, this should not be a literature research, but you should find some concrete examples from modern companies.

You could also mention some interesting ideas of how the clients should be informed about the new features that were added, that could be for an example a brilliant software that helps creating e-mailers.

Once you identified those ideas and tools you should estimate what would be the cost of implementing them.

Global Health

Describe the factors that impact health and health care delivery, and the interventions that have been implemented. Explain the influence of altruism on global health, and identify evidence-based interventions to address the global health topic
What health issue do you see as having the greatest impact on the world today?
What is the attitude of the United States towards this health issue?
How might nursing influence the outcome of this health issue?
Suppose you have been asked to submit an article for publication in your organization’s newsletter, about a global health topic and how policies and practices at the local level can affect global health. Choose one global health topic from the list (or use another of your choice):
Mental health.
Communicable diseases (HIV/AIDS, influenza, malaria, tuberculosis).
Non-communicable diseases (cancer, lung, and heart disease).
Maternal and child health (prenatal care, midwife education, childhood vaccinations).
LGBT health.
Disabilities.
Global water supply and safety (GlobalHealth.gov, n.d.).
Identify your topic. Provide background information and statistics on the topic, including the global areas most affected by the topic and the types of health care issues most often associated with the topic.
Describe the factors that impact health and health care delivery in the global areas most affected by the topic you selected. These factors may include not only culture and tradition, but also politics, economics, and social attitude.
Explain the influence of altruistic organizations (Peace Corps, Project Hope, religious and non-religious missions, and so on) on health and health care practices in the global area specifically associated with the topic.
Describe the interventions implemented to address the health care issues associated with the topic. Include both conventional and unconventional interventions.
Explain how the health care decisions and practices at the local level (the area most impacted by the topic) relate to health and health care delivery in other global areas. This is not limited only to best practices, but could include poor health care decisions and practices.
Identify evidence-based interventions that are effective, efficient, cost-effective, and equitable for promoting wellness and disease prevention in the specific area and population
