Writing Business Strategy

The SWOT analysis is a tool widely used by many organizations and business leaders throughout the world; however, a critical component of the effective use of a SWOT is the appropriate application of the information gathered from the analysis. For this Discussion, you will investigate opportunities for applying a SWOT analysis for effectiveness in both the strategic planning process and encouraging innovation within a selected organization.

To prepare for this Discussion, select a strategy practice case from Dyer, Godfrey, Jensen, and Bryce (2016) presented in the week’s Required Readings, and consider how SWOT data can be effectively used within strategic planning initiatives to gain or maintain a competitive advantage for this specific organization. Be sure the case you select provides an exhaustive overview of the organization’s business climate for strategy.

Post an assessment of the value of SWOT analysis as a contextual strategic planning tool. Your assessment should include the following:

  • A brief description of your chosen case, including industry and relevant background information
  • An explanation of which parts of a SWOT analysis could provide the greatest value from a strategic planning perspective, including specific examples from your chosen case
  • An analysis of how SWOT data could be used to increase this organization’s competitive advantage
  • An analysis of how the SWOT data could be used to increase innovation within this organization

Be sure to support your work with a minimum of two specific citations from this week’s Learning Resources and at least one additional scholarly source.

Medical Office Scenarios

Part A: A pharmaceutical representative has just arrived at the office of Dr. Joseph Henderson, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. The waiting room is swarming with patients waiting to see Dr. Henderson, because he was delayed with an unexpectedly complicated lumbar spinal fusion and laminectomy.

The representative is very insistent, almost belligerent, about seeing the physician immediately, even though she did not have an appointment to see him. In fact, the visit was totally unexpected, as the representative had just been in two weeks ago. Last time the representative was in, she gave Dr. Henderson a variety of readily usable and dispensable medications. She has more of the same today—injectable cortisone with Novocain, muscle relaxants, NSAIDs, and even some Tylenol with codeine. Usually, Dr. Henderson is quite receptive to receiving these samples, as they help ease the financial burden on his patients for whom he uses or to whom he dispenses these samples. The office is, in fact, running quite low on these particular medications because of Dr. Henderson’s heavy patient load.

Provide detailed answers for each of the following questions. Your response should be at least 150 words in length.

· What is your response to the sales representative?

· Should a sales representative ever take precedence over scheduled appointments?

· Does the fact that Dr. Henderson is usually quite anxious to receive any and all samples for his patients enter in as a factor?

· Does the diminished supply of these samples alter the situation?

· Can the medical assistant ever accept delivery of any or all of these samples?

Part B: Dr. Jonas runs a private practice. He admits patients and makes rounds in two local hospitals. He uses one type of EHR software in his private office and two other packages in the two hospitals. Not only must Dr. Jonas learn three software systems, but he also may at times be unable to move patient information between those systems because of incompatibility. What might Dr. Jonas do to address these issues? Your response should be at least 100 words in length.

Part C: Lisa Medina, a certified coder, performs medical coding for a large multi-specialty clinic. You have just been hired as Lisa’s assistant. She has asked you to review the encounter forms for the day, on which physicians have checked off the diagnoses of each patient. You notice that Dr. Parker, an endocrinologist, has checked off the box for Diabetes unspecified for most of his patients without checking off any manifestations or complications. You think this is unusual because many diabetic patients do have complications.

Provide detailed answers for each of the following questions. Your response should at least 150 words in length.

· What are the options for handling this situation?

· Which option would you select? Give three reasons for your choice.

· With whom should you consult before acting on your choice?

Part D: Sarah Egan is the office manager in Dr. Williams’s practice. Nell Jacobs, who has worked as a CMA (AAMA) in the office for one year, has frequently been absent or tardy on Mondays. Sarah suspects that Nell has a drinking problem. However, Nell has never arrived at the office intoxicated—until today. Sarah has just observed Nell stumbling in the parking lot when getting out of her car. Her speech is slurred, and her breath has a fruity odor that Sarah thinks could be alcohol. Nell does not appear to understand anything that Sarah is saying to her.

Art History Analysis

For this assignment, you are to choose an art artifact from your textbook and construct an essay (approximately 5 pages plus bibliography) on any one of the four topics listed below. Be careful to select an artifact that corresponds with the essay topic you have chosen. For example, essay topic #1 focuses on religious beliefs, therefore, Stonehenge, the Snake Goddess, Poseidon/Zeus, or Teaching Christ would be good options. You do not need to answer each question on a given topic. They are a questions to consider when drafting your paper. You may end up using some or all of them. You may even come up with some of your own. Use them as a guideline. Essay Topics:

  1. Many works of art are inspired by deep religious/spiritualbeliefs. Select an artifact and discuss its significance as a religious icon, a symbol of faith and spiritual power. What/who does the artifact represent? What religious/spiritual/emotion/belief was the artist attempting to convey? What methods did the artist use to try to communicate spiritual content? Does the work have any religious/spiritual significance today?
  2. A work of art is both material and emotional. Select one artifact and analyze the techniques and materials used by the artist to create it. How did technical considerations affect the outcome of the work? How does the technique/material reinforce the style of the work? What technical problems might the artist have faced in creating this object? Why do you think the artist chose a particular material to create this object? What would have happened had the artist chosen a different material/technique?
  3. Art often reflects the popular culture of the people who produced it. Select a masterwork that tells us something about the popular culture of a particular time and place. What does the artifact tell us about how the people lived, what was important to them, how they saw themselves, what they did for recreation, how they dressed, etc. How does art reflect the everyday lives of people in a particular time and place? Why is that knowledge useful to us today?
  4. All art contains basic elements of line, form, composition, color, texture, etc. Select an artifact and analyze the basic elements of the object. How did the artist use these elements to create a finished work? Is the work abstract or representational? Realistic or stylized? Materialistic or spiritual? How do the formal elements enhance the content of the object and reinforce the intentions of the artist? Do a diagram of the object to illustrate the basic composition of the work. Is the composition peaceful or chaotic? Simple or complex? Formal or informal? How does the color and texture enhance the mood of the work?
2.

Exam 2 will ask you to compare/contrast some interesting theme, event, or character(s) from more than one time and place. You need to select at least one text from those you have studied in Unit 3, and one from either Unit 1 or Unit 2. You may discuss more than two texts, but the discussion MUST be in depth with many supporting examples from the texts you have selected. It is much better to work with two texts in depth than with more than two superficially. Possible topics include:

Possible topics include:

1. Gilgamesh  Odyssey  Agamemnon  Medea  Aeneid  and  Arabian Nights  – woman troubles in two or three of these stories; be sure to include  Arabian Nights  as one of them

2. Odyssey  Aeneid  and  Arabian Nights  – adventures and marvels in two or three of these stories; be sure to include  Arabian Nights  as one of them

3. Aeneid  and  Roland  – two visions of empire

4. Lysistrata, Aeneid  (Dido) and  Arabian Nights  – how women relate to heroes, power and empire in two or three of these stories; be sure to include Arabian Nights  as one of them.

9. Rama and Roland – two very different kinds of heroes

10. A pair or group of your choice, so long as at least ONE text is from Unit one or two and ONE from Unit three: You must let me know what you want to use as a question and what your point will be in advance of the essay. Sometimes students create questions that simply do not work for exams. I can be helpful if you contact me in advance (which does not mean the day you intend to take the exam).

Remember–your essay must have a point to it; it should be able to answer a reader’s question: SO WHAT? If you are having trouble thinking about how to plan your exam, you are welcome to email me with questions but do NOT send me a full outline or draft of your exam. I will not read those. I will read and respond to a statement of thesis topic that explains which texts you intend to write about and what your main point will be.

Competency Based Interviewing

History Essay

Instructions: 750 word minimum/1000 word maximum. Use and cite from the Revel ebook, include 2 additional sources such as .edu/.gov/.org websites to help inform your response. Standard introduction, body, conclusion with a compelling thesis is expected. Lewis & Clark   Instructions: From 1804 to 1806, at the request of U.S. President Thomas Jefferson, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led the first American expedition across the vast interior of the North American continent. They departed from St. Louis, headed up the Missouri River, and followed an overland route to the Columbia River, which they followed to the Pacific Ocean. Along the way, they encountered and negotiated with various Indian tribes, collected wildlife and soil samples, and charted the geography of the land. The Lewis and Clark expedition has taken on mythic proportions in American culture, and the explorers are often invoked to symbolize a spirit of adventure and endeavor. In the early years of the American republic, when communication and commerce were quite limited, traveling into a vast wilderness inhabited by potentially hostile Indian groups as well as traders and settlers from Spain, Britain, and France entailed great danger and cost. Think about how Thomas Jefferson justified the expense of the trip and the variety of goals Lewis and Clark hoped to accomplish. Consider the risks of disease, injury, starvation, and violence from people they met. Write an essay that explains the reasons behind Lewis and Clark’s expedition and assesses their success in fulfilling their mission. Your essay should describe the specific needs of the United States in the early 19th century in terms of relations with other countries, commerce, relations with Indians, and the advance of science. What role did the Lewis and Clark expedition play in the growth of the young United States? How integral was Sacagawea to this expedition (Hint: I’m an American Indian woman)? Your response must contain a minimum of 750 words and two citations

 Consultation Implications in COntext

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, be sure to read the required articles for this week.

You are a consulting psychologist for a local clinic and have been asked to follow up on a consultation you completed four years ago. There are current developments in this case that require further consideration. Please review the PSY699 Week Five discussion case file (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. or detailed information on the current case under review.

In your initial post, explain how the APA Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct can be used to guide decisions in this ethically complex situation. Provide a suggested course of action for the clinic staff. Given the daughter’s age and the situation presented, integrate concepts developed from different psychological content domains to support your suggested course of action. Be certain to use evidence-based psychological concepts and theories to support your arguments. You may wish to consider the following questions as you construct your post.

· Should the staff encourage the daughter to inform her mother that she is sexually active?

· Would knowledge regarding her daughter’s sexual activity influence the mother’s stance regarding disclosure?

· Should the staff break confidentiality and inform the mother that her daughter is sexually active?

· Should the staff encourage the mother to inform the daughter of both her and her daughter’s HIV status?

· Does the daughter’s boyfriend have any rights in this situation? If so, what are they?

· Based on the daughter’s age, does the mother have a right to not disclose the diagnosis to her daughter?

· Does the mother have a right to the privacy regarding her own diagnosis, which could be threatened if her daughter learns of her own status?

· Are there other approaches the staff can take? If so, what are they?

· Is further information required in order for you to create an ethically sound suggested course of action?
