Background:

Culture is not just a list of holidays or shared recipes, religious traditions, or language; it is a lived experience unique to every individual. As ECEC providers, it is our job to stimulate the intellectual development of infants and toddlers and, in this era, it is simply not enough to operate on the axis of “racial color-blindness.” To truly engage students, we must reach out to them in ways that are culturally and linguistically responsive and appropriate, and we must examine the cultural assumptions and stereotypes we bring into the learning environment that may hinder interconnectedness.

Your willingness to examine your own possible biases is an important step in understanding the roots of stereotypes and prejudice in our society. Through the combined efforts of psychologists from Harvard, the University of Virginia, and the University of Washington, “Project Implicit” provides a research-based questionnaire created to measure unconscious or automatic biases.

To complete this assignment:

  • First, complete the Project Implicit Questionnaire.
  • In the discussion forum, generally explain your questionnaire results (to the extent to which you are comfortable) by answering the following questions:
    • Did your results surprise you? (If so, what was surprising about your results? If not, why not?)
    • Do you feel these results were valid and/or impacted by Western culture?
    • Discuss the anticipated challenges associated with biases and not validating the racial and ethnic identities of the students and families you work with.

Discuss how you can or cannot relate to their results and provide suggestions supporting how they may address their biases in their personal and professional interactions.

This paper is essentially a review of scholarly literature on a topic of your choice that is related to family communication, although the topic must be approved by me. The paper should be 12 to 20 pages long and the literature review should be exhaustive, which means that you should find and cite as much scholarly research about your topic as possible. This scholarly research should consist mostly of empirical research articles that you will find by searching appropriate scholarly databases. In general, you should avoid sources like textbooks, newsletters, magazines, etc. The literature review should lead logically to a set of unique, original hypotheses and/or research questions. How well the paper does this will primarily determine its grade. In essence, this paper is very much like the opening section, up to and including the hypotheses and research questions, of the scholarly research articles you should be reading to put the paper together. The key difference is that you will NOT be following through with an actual original research study to test those hypotheses or answer those research questions (at least not in this class Smile).

Format:

Papers must be engagingly written, well organized, grammatically and mechanically correct, and follow appropriate elements of APA style. (I strongly urge each student to either purchase or gain access to a copy of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition. You will need it for this class and for most others you take in our program.) As mentioned above, the paper should be approximately 12 to 20 pages long. It should be double-spaced throughout, including the list of references at the end. It should also include a title page with content and structure suggested by the APA style handbook. The paper must be written in either Times New Roman or Garamond font, 12 pt. size. Use standard one-inch margins on all sides.

Health Hazard Evaluation Report, HETA 2010-0008-3148. (2011). Ergonomic and Safety Climate Evaluation at a Brewery – Colorado.
Your case study review must include the following headings per APA guidelines:
  • …….
    …..
1. Introduction –Provide a description of the selected case. Describe the issues of the case, and state the purpose for the paper.
2. Methods – State the evaluation criteria used in the NIOSH HHE Report.
3. Results – Present the findings from the Health hazard evaluation.
4. Recommendations – Describe the recommendations for improvements.
5. Discussion – Review relevant literature on the subject. Does research support the recommendations of the case? In addition, are there any other issues of concern?

Instructions:
Your answer to this assignment must be four to six pages, double spaced, and 12 point font (separate title page and reference page are not included in the page length). The assignment requires that you use your textbook and at least two other references and readings which pertain to the topic in question. It is required that students use APA style for papers and projects. Therefore, the APA rules for formatting, quoting, paraphrasing, citing, and listing of sources are to be followed.

Kozol (2010) argues that inequitable educational settings impact student academic achievement. Wardle (2013) agrees as he touches on many themes regarding disproportional learning environments and achievement for students who may be at-risk, including those from dual language and/or low income households. Considering the sociohistorical challenges that students must overcome to be successful, what are some of the challenges associated with school and learning for twice exceptional learners?

Assignment: Paper

I. Content

  1. Define and describe what it means to be a twice-exceptional learner. Give three examples of possible diagnosis for those who are identified as twice-exceptional (e.g., a student having both ADD/HD and a specific learning disability). This should be approximately one page.
  2. Discuss some of the general challenges related to learning and school life that twice-exceptional students may experience that are otherwise atypical in those without exceptionalities. This should be approximately two pages.
    • Include general information on work ethic, strengths, academic, and social challenges.
    • How might those strengths and challenges be specific to the students in the examples you included in your description?
  3. Analyze what the research says about twice-exceptional learners. This should be two to three pages. Include the following points.
    • The relationship between their achievement and school funding (low socioeconomic vs. mid-high socioeconomic school environments).
    • Are twice exceptional students more or less likely to be successful on high-stakes tests? Why?
    • How might their high or low scores impact educational funding for their school?
    • Outcomes of high-stakes tests, factors that contribute to outcomes, and the impact of these factors on achievement.
  4. Reflect upon what you gleaned from the research and/or from your own experience regarding the current levels of support for twice-exceptional learners. Discuss any efforts teachers can make to positively impact twice-exceptional learners as well as why it is important to do so.

II. Resources: Include a minimum of three scholarly sources including, but not limited to:

III. Formatting requirements

Your document should be four to seven pages in length, excluding title and reference pages, and should follow APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center including:

    • An introduction with thesis statement.
    • Definition/Description of Twice-Exceptional.
    • Strengths & Challenges.
    • Relationship between achievement and funding.
    • Relationship between testing outcomes and achievement.
    • Reflection & Recommendations (levels of support, teacher efforts).

Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

Budgets are intended to address a number of different theoretical and practical purposes including management and control, communication to different constituencies, goals, past successes, philosophy of the public entity, and to explain the functions of the various departments, etc. Also, public administration professionals must be able to analyze the financial health of an entity by examining the budget.

  • …….
    …..

In an eight to ten page paper (not including the title and reference pages), assess how well available budget documents and auxiliary information address each of these functions on the municipal budget of your choice. The assessment needs to be supported with examples and information from the documents studied.

Focus of the Final Paper
In your budget assessment, you must complete the following prompts for the municipality of your choice:

Budget Structure:
•Explain whether or not the budget message presented an adequate overview of the entity and its financial position. Support your position.
•Determine if there are separate capital budget and capital improvement programs. If so, assesses what the budget tells you about the entity’s immediate and long range plans for development.

Service Area (or Program):
•Identify what service area (or program) accounts for the greatest percentage of the operating budget.
•Discusses if the budget provides information suggesting why this service area is the largest.
•Identify what category of expenditure (e.g., personnel, supplies) accounts for the greatest percentage of the service area’s budget for that service area.

Funds in Operation
•Determine how many funds the entity operates.
•Explain how these funds differ in terms of the sources of revenue.
•Assesses the fund balance for the General Fund and the various enterprise funds.
•Conclude whether the funds have been growing or contracting and whether or not the funds are adequate. Support your findings.

  • …….
    …..

Financial Analysis
•Describes and analyzes the indications of both financial health and financial dangers of the entity contained within the documents reviewed and what those indicators tell us.

You may use a variety of resources for this project and should cite a minimum of 3 resources. You will want to start with the most recent year’s approved budget. You may use accounting reports for information; however, you will want to base your budget figures off of the budget book, as accounting detail does not provide the line items for expenses such as personnel, ERE, supplies, and travel. You may also use department website information, other reports, laws/rules, a recommendation book if available may provide additional detail, interviews with city/department staff, or other relevant sources.

Writing the Final Paper
The Final Paper:
•Must be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the approved APA style guide.
•Must include a cover page that includes:
– Title of paper
– Student’s name
– Course name and number
– Instructor’s name
– Date submitted
•Must include an introductory paragraph with a succinct thesis statement.
•Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
•Must conclude with a restatement of the thesis and a conclusion paragraph.
•Must use at least three resources.
•Must use APA style as outlined in the approved APA style guide to document all sources.
•Must include, on the final page, a Reference Page that is completed according to APA style as outlined in the approved APA style guide.

Structure of the essay should based on the example essay. thanks

You will be required to draft an essay which compares and contrasts two major theorists, e.g., Piaget and Vygotsky and their conceptual frame works for development (cognitive, social and emotional).

…….

Aside from highlighting the major aspects of their stated theories, you are also required to highlight the different ways in which each theorist discusses development, e.g., Piaget discusses it mostly from a cognitive and intellectual perspective whereas Vygotsky focuses on the social contexts in which development takes shape.

…….

You will be required to cite the text as well as two other peer-reviewed journal articles (for example – American Psychologist or Journal of Abnormal Psychology), to which you have access via your Drexel account. The body of the essay will be NO MORE THAN five (5) pages, not including cover page and reference list. You?re also required to follow APA format. Other requirements include the following:

PAPER GUIDELINES:

…….

Type of Writing
The paper is to have a scientific tone and should rely on sources/reference to build an explanation or argument.
Required Length
The length should be about 4-5 pages excluding the title page and the reference list. Please try to stay within this length.
Overall format
The paper should follow the format of the American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines. If you do not own an APA manual, we recommend using the website https://owl.english.purdue.edu/ for current APA guidelines. Following APA guidelines is expected in both the rough and final drafts or the paper, but grading of the final paper will especially rely on proper use of APA guidelines. Ask Dr Chuck or Richa if you have questions while writing the rough draft or after we give you feedback!
Citing sources
You are to use your textbook and peer-reviewed journal articles as the main source of information. Cite the textbook directly if the authors do not cite anyone else. If they do cite journal articles, you must cite those journal articles directly.

…….

Please look up a journal article and read it before citing it. If you cannot locate the full text of the article online, then read the abstract in an abstract database like PsychInfo. (Ask us for help if you have never worked with an abstract database.). Often times, the full-text of the article can be found if you go through Drexel?s online resources/Psychinfo as well.
Required number of sources
The main concern is that you give proper credit for information. In each paper, you must cite at least the textbook. There is no required number of journal articles to cite in addition.

…….

Please be careful about giving proper credit to sources, as we can see whether you should have cited a journal article when you only cited the textbook. Points will be deducted if you inaccurately give credit to the textbook.
Avoiding Plagiarism
Please give importance to avoid plagiarism (from the textbook or other sources). Quotes should be used (sparingly, or not at all in these kinds of papers) when you want to present exact thoughts from the reference; however,

…….

every other sentence should be in your own words. Even grammatical structures of each sentence should be your own words, meaning you cannot simply replace the words in the original sentence. Any plagiarism will lead to a grade of zero on the paper.
Good writing
You will be grade on the quality of your writing. High-quality writing involves 1) strong arguments; 2) effective organization; and, 3) good sentences.
1) Strong arguments: Critical thinking involves the ability to evaluate and build arguments. Arguments should be based on evidence, not opinion, speculation, or personal experience.
2) Effective organization: Arrange paragraphs in a logical sequence and be sure that each paragraph has one (and only one) overarching idea.

reading Hannah Ardent’s “Eichmann is Jerusalem”.
THE QUESTION:
Arendt concludes that the whole trial (and maybe the whole horrible history of the events that
made the trial necessary) was a long course in the word and thought defying banality of evil.
What do you think she meant by this? In what way or ways might evil be banal? Does “banality of
evil” seem to you to be a plausible explanation of how crimes against humanity are perpetrated?
Are you drawn toward Arendt’s point of view or do you have problems with it?CLICK HERE TO ORDER THIS ESSAY!!!!
SOME THINGS YOU MIGHT THINK ABOUT AS YOU PREPARE TO ANSWER THE QUESTION (These are not
questions you are expected to answer. Think of the items below as a sort of study guide to help  you think about your answer):
To what extent (if any) does Arendt’s “banality of evil” thesis explain Eichmann’s role in the  Holocaust or how he came to be a perpetrator of mass murder and crimes against humanity?
To what extent (if any) does Arendt’s “banality of evil” thesis explain the complicity and  cooperation of ordinary people not only in Germany but also in occupied countries with Nazi  mass murder and crimes against humanity?
To what extent (if any) does Arendt’s “banality of evil” thesis explain the behavior of victims  and especially the leaders of victim communities?
There are also examples in Arendt’s book of times, places and people whose behavior broke with  the general pattern of complicity with Nazi crimes. To what extent (if any) might Arendt’s  “banality of evil” thesis be contradicted or supported by acts of resistance?
In what way or ways is Arendt critical of the Eichmann trial and/or policies of the Israeli  government? To what extent (if any) does she seem to suggest that banal (everyday, ordinary,  bureaucratic, political) evil can appear among any people, even those who have been victims?
To what extent (if any) does Arendt think the “banality of evil” thesis relates to the current  moral position of the Germans?CLICK HERE TO ORDER THIS ESSAY!!!!

Part 1) Sensory Deprivation Exercise
It is a sensory deprivation exercise and, if possible, try and have someone help you with it. Be careful of the things you do while doing this exercise as your senses will not be as sharp as they normally are. DO NOT ENGAGE IN ACTVITIES THAT PUT YOU OR OTHERS AT RISK (e.g., DRIVING).
To alter your senses…..
Hearing – Place cotton balls in your ears to muffle sounds.
Vision – Place translucent plastic over the goggles (or glasses if you wear them) and secure with rubber bands or tape. Or look through a piece of translucent plastic.
Touch – Put on rubber or thin material gloves.
You can do one sense at a time if you are alone so that you have your other senses to help you. If you have a helper, do all the senses at the same time to get a perspective of what it is like to be elderly.
Try some everyday activities like reading or watching TV. Try picking up eating utensils with the gloves on.The assignment is to describe what the experience is like. What are your thoughts about your senses being altered? What are some of your feelings about it?
1 respond )>>complete our weekly assignment/conference while having my senses impaired. So please, take note there may be a few mistakes hehehehe.
So I have inserted ear plugs, similar to the ones they give you on airplanes, I am using glasses with a vision altering plastic over them and wearing gloves to type.
First off, to listen to and really understand everything in the lecture notes and short videos I watched online. I had to have the volume turned all the way up, to a point where I had my kids come up and ask if everything was ok, and why I was it was so loud.
I found myself moving around in front of my computer screen to try and get a clearer picture of what I was reading and at times trying to make the letters bigger so it would be easier to read. That took a lot of my concentration away and I found I was reading and re reading the same paragraphs over and over. Not to mention trying to find the right setting.
Trying to type without having full sensation of the keyboard and it’s keys finally made me understand my dad a bit more and why he types like he is picking corn from from the keyboard. Not only does he have to take note and make sure he is choosing the right key, he also has impaired sensation of how many keys he has actually pressed. Not an easy task.
Eventually, going back to my normal senses I really understood how many difficulties losing your senses presents. I can see how it must be even harder when you slowly, start losing each one to a point where you don’t even notice until you go to renew your DL and are told you need glasses. But it would be horrific to all of a sudden partially lose all or anyone of our senses. Very interesting exercise.
2 respond) >>>For this week’s experiment was fascinating because it’s something I never considered during daily life for the past 29 years. For the first part of the experiment I spent a day with hockey gloves on to impair the sense of touch. I even got my girlfriend to brush my teeth for me, which is probably one of the most personally invasive activities we do on a daily basis. The simplest of tasks became difficult and small items such as using a key to open a door or turning on the television. My level of frustration rose throughout the day and even the act of petting my 9 month old puppy seemed more work than I wanted to bother. For the second day I spent the entire work day without my glasses on, which makes me border-line legally blind. I was especially surprised at how much more movement my day required, when you’re not able to see anything from a far. From looking at the time on a clock to being unable to determine the face of a co-worker, this we definitely a harsh lesson to learn. The loss of site was probably the more hindering of the two loss of senses, even though I was still able to roughly make out shapes and colors. With more than 1 billion people in the world disabled, as reported just today by the New York Times, it is so great that today the UN is hosting the first every General Assembly meeting to allow disabled individuals to contribute to the world economy. As Americans we encourage people with special needs to overcome barriers, while still much of the world pushes them aside and restricts them from learning their potential. This experiment showed me just how hard it is to work at overcoming a disability involving the use of touch or site. It definitely gave me more respect for those who do it on a daily basis, but just as important allowed me to empathize far more with disabled people. While it wasn’t the most academic task we’ve done, so far this week’s exercise was by far the most enriching for me as a person.
Part 2)
The following exercise is designed to assist you as you complete writing assignment #3, the research-supported essay.
