The process involved with selecting the ?right? employee will differ depending on the requirements of the job. In addition, the culture and expectations of an organization will have great impact on the structure of the selection process. Where one health care setting might require applicants to participate in group interviews, another might use personality tests. In addition, the qualities for which interviewers look might also vary, ranging from a personality focus to a skills focus.

In this Assignment, you investigate the selection process that is used in a health care organization with which you are familiar. You also identify the expectations of both human resources and the nurse manager in terms of selection.

To prepare

Review Chapter 6, ?Selecting New Employees? in the course text, Human Resource Management: Functions, Applications, Skill Development, to examine the various selection processes health care settings and other organizations may employ. In addition, reflect upon the three types of ?fit? nurse managers should take into consideration when selecting new employees.
Identify a position that is open or has recently been filled in your organization.
Using what you know about the position, the culture and expectations of the organization, your own hiring and selection experiences, and this week?s readings, investigate the following:
Identify the selection steps that have been or will be taken, as well as the members involved. For example, which steps did human resources complete? In which steps did the nursing manager engage?
Identify the skills, educational and work background, and ?fit? required for this position. How do these align with the advertised job description?
Identify any problems or areas that could be improved in your organization?s current selection process. If you were the nurse manager, how would you modify this process?

Submit a 3- to 5-page paper in which you do the following:

Briefly describe the selection process used in your setting.
Identify the team members involved in conducting each step. For example, explain which steps HR performs and which steps managers perform.
Explain how effective you believe the current system is.
Briefly describe any problems (e.g., rushing, stereotyping, ?like me? syndrome, halo and horn effect, premature selection) your setting has experienced with this current selection system (if applicable).
Explain how you would modify the process and why.
Identify the job title for the open or recently filled position.
Describe the skills and background a desirable applicant would have.
Describe the type of ?fit? that would make this applicant the ?right? person for this specific job.
Compare the job description with the expectations of the position.
Explain whether or not the job description aligns with the skills, background, and ?fit? needed to excel in this position.
Explain the specific attributes or characteristics you, as the nurse manager responsible for selecting a candidate for the position, might seek that are not specifically outlined in the job description. Describe how you could you elicit this information during an interview.

You work at a small community-based hospital as a manager in the quality assurance department. One function of your job is to analyze internal data such as medical records, patient surveys, and incident reports to track trends and help improve patient care delivery. The supervisor just came back from a seminar on quality benchmarking and has asked about the possibility of analyzing secondary data from the health care industry as a way to benchmark and measure the organization’s quality performance against its peers. Prepare a report on the use of both secondary data and internal data as way to improve quality in your organization. Complete the following:
? Write a paper comparing and contrasting the collection of secondary data and their uses versus the analysis of current health care records and internal data such as incident reports and patient surveys.
? Explain how health care organizations use secondary data as a comparison to internal data.
? Assess the validity and reliability of primary and secondary data in conducting health care research.
? Compose an operational plan to roll data or application’s functionality to another platform or application.

Analysis Issues and Considerations

Case Assignment

Analyst must keep their finger on the pulse of current issues, trends and considerations surrounding both information technology systems and the specific industries that use them. The Internet provides a wealth of resources containing valuable and relevant information and knowledge that help analysts to be well informed.

For this assignment, you will perform an Internet search and look for web sites and resources that provide information related to legal, ethical and security issues and considerations surrounding health information systems. You are asked to narrow your review to five sources from the search results that are not advertising.

Hints: Best results will be obtained by using the Google search engine and the Advanced Search features to search for items that include combinations of words such as “legal,” “ethical,” “auditing,” “control,” “security, “heath information,” “analysis,” or “HIPAA” and exclude the words “course” and “book.” Also be sure to examine the links offered by professional organizations.

Write a scholarly report on the results of your Internet research that addresses the following items:

Explain how you performed your search (what search criteria and/or rules you used).

Describe in detail each of the five sites that you reviewed (include the URLs) and explain why you selected the site, list key points and information you found, and describe what you learned from information presented on the site. In your paper, clearly organize your discussion surrounding each site according to the respective URL.

Summarize your overall findings and what you collectively learned from your search effort and selected web sites. Be sure to include what you found to be important key concepts, points and information along with any contrasting views that you may have found.

From your examination, provide any conclusions that you may have drawn and or recommendations you can make from your investigation and review of the web sites.

Assignment Expectations

Use information from the modular background materials and case assignment narrative as well as any quality resources you can find via the online libraries or Internet.

Explanation of the significance of auditing, control and security along with key dimensions and issues relevant to systems analysis.

Use and application of literature, expert opinion and case examples from your research to support your position, key points and explanations. Follow APA format for your paper including in-text citations and references.

As part of this course, you will be developing an evaluation plan based on an appropriate model. For this Assignment, you will examine in depth the four models introduced in this week’s Learning Resources (Technology Acceptance, Model Diffusion of Innovations, Disruptive Innovation, Sociotechnical Theory Models). By increasing your familiarity with these key models, you will more easily recognize which would be most appropriate for the evaluation you decide to perform.

Consider the key points of each and when they would be the most appropriate choice for an evaluation.

Are there areas in your practice that you believe should be more fully explored? The central aims of nursing informatics are to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom. This continuum represents the overarching structure of nursing informatics. In this Assignment, you develop a research question relevant to your practice area and relate how you would work through the progression from data to information, knowledge, and wisdom.

Review the information in Figure 6?2 in Nursing Informatics and the Foundation of Knowledge.
Develop a clinical question related to your area of practice that you would like to explore.
Consider what you currently know about this topic. What additional information would you need to answer the question?
Using the continuum of data, information, knowledge, and wisdom, determine how you would go about researching your question.
Explore the available databases in the Walden Library. Identify which of these databases you would use to find the information or data you need.

Consider how you would extract the relevant information from the articles.
