Take into consideration constitutional disputes as well as political, economic, and cultural differences. Look at the history underlying the dispute, how it is playing out within the governing institutions, and how you think the issue may be resolved (assuming that is possible). There are three steps to completing this project:

Step 1: Identify the issue. Give a historical account of how the U.S. Government and the Texas Government have been currently addressing it.

Step 2: Gather a minimum of three scholarly research articles and additional news/current events that are relevant to the topic.

Step 3: Prepare a formal policy report that is a minimum of 1,000 words (excluding the cited text) which includes a discussion of the following:
• A statement of the current policy.
• Reasons for initiating changes
• Policy options to be considered
• Pros and cons of each option
• Recommended course of action
Reasoning for selecting that course of action

Professor Instructions:
Pick a product you like or are familiar with (pick a simple product… the more complex, the harder it will be!). Like the pencil in the iPencil movie, your product has a “family tree.” Do some research to uncover and document your product’s the “family tree.”

Describe your product. What is it

made up of? What type of product is your product? Shopping? Specialty?

Where would you typically buy your product? What kind of retailer? Is it imported? How would your product be transported?

Describe the product’s supply chain. Who are the intermediaries in your product’s supply chain? What ethical/environmental challenges or opportunities did you encounter in your product’s supply chain?

Did you find anything surprising or interesting in your product’s supply chain?

Reminders:

1000 words. Use concepts from class and textbook or lose 10 points. Don’t forget to cite sources. Papers without sources will receive an automatic zero. Papers with only one source will be docked 10 points. Late papers will not be accepted.

My instructions as well:

i will be attaching several powerpoint that will guide you to answer the following questions posted, please pick any product you like, cite your sources and use outside sources as well to answer the questions and analyze

Topic is Expansion of Medicaid to all individuals with income ≤133% of the Federal Poverty Level

A description of how this initiative could affect access to, and use of, primary care in the target population
• A description of how you expect this initiative to affect U.S. health care costs. Describe how these cost effects are due to changes in patient-level, provider-level, and geographic factors that affect health care costs
• Describe how this initiative could be modified to maximize population health, by either: A) intervening at different tiers of Frieden’s Health Impact Pyramid, or; B) further improvements in access and/or quality. Describe the potential population health effects of the changes you are suggesting. If you believe the initiative does not need to be changed in any way, describe program elements you expect to be particularly effective (or potential problems that were avoided). When making these recommendations, you should only consider course content (do not consider politics, likelihood of passage in Congress, etc.)
• A description of what remains unknown about this initiative’s effects, including potential unintended or adverse consequences
• A brief conclusion section

1. Pick an organization/group/club/etc. that you are a part of and write a press release for an upcoming event or publicity worthy topic. Make sure that the content is written in AP style and you follow standard press release format.

2. Choose a current social issue and create/complete the following:

1. A script for a PSA: Keep in mind PSAs are typically between 30 and 60 seconds in length and should contain a persuasive message that includes a call to action for the audience.

2. A plan for the visuals to be included in your PSA. Since we are not actually creating a filmed PSA, use your imagination.

3. A corresponding print ad: In addition to creating the text and images to be included in this ad, please let us know where you would want to place this ad and why.

4. For both the PSA and the print ad, create a list of items that will need to be budgeted for if this were to be part of the overall PR campaign.

The Fundamental Research Project: Individual Stock Report

The Fundamental Research Project is designed to simulate the type of research work expected from a “Buy-Side” fundamental analyst. The project will focus on the examination and valuation of a stock from a selected investment universe. Students are expected to explore theories that underlie asset pricing, practiced techniques that identify asset-mispricing situations, and strategies that exploit the presence of temporary asset-mispricing. Students will experience the benefits and pitfalls various models: The Dividend Discount Model (DDM), The Gordon Growth Model, The Discounted Cash Flow Model (DCF) and other relative valuation techniques. A key to success in the investment world is the ability to think out of the box. Through class discussions and teamwork the project is designed to illustrate and highlight Qualitative and Quantitative aspects of Investment Research.

A Stock Report: (A Sample Report will be posted on blackboard) among topics you should cover in this written report are:
1. Your description of the company – business, products, management, relevant history, future plans.
2. Your Investment Thesis

4. Consensus price target (Street Estimates)
5. Your Price Target with Upside/Downside risk
6. Risks that the company will likely face in short run/long run (Porter’s 5 forces or SWOT analysis)
7. Future monitoring points
8. Explain why it should do better than its peers and how the stock is expected to performance.

Note: Students must be prepared to answer movement in his or her stock caused by news flow, earnings report or any other event in the market place.

Your Assignments on this Book include:

A short quiz over the book’s content
Participation in a class discussion
Keeping a Journal while reading the book
The audio of Haney-Lopez’s book is 12 hours and 30 minutes. Many of you will need more time than this. Some are slower readers. Some are new to the concepts and vocabulary used. You will also need time to think about what you will write about. Plan carefully.

Journal Instructions:

You will write 11 different journal entries- one for the introduction, one for each chapter 1-9 and one for the conclusion. Follow the instructions for each entry below:

The Introduction: After reading the introduction, write 1-2 pages (typed and double spaced using reasonable font and margins) answering the following question: In your own words, explain what the author defines as dog whistle politics and what you are expecting to learn from reading this book.

This is a personal reflection. There is no right or wrong answer. Be honest about your expectations even if they are not positive ones.

The Main Chapters: For chapters 1-9 write a 1-2 page journal entry for each chapter. (that’s 9 different entries) For the chapter entries you have two parts to address:

1) What did you learn in this chapter? Write a brief summary of the main ideas you took away? Do not include any personal opinions here. This should be no more than 1/2 to 3/4 of a page (typed, double spaced with reasonable fonts and margins).

2) Your personal reflections: In 1-2 pages (typed, double spaced with reasonable fonts and margins) give your own observations about the chapter material. There is no single way to add your own reflections. Some of the tactics you can use are:

Agree or disagree with the author, but explain why.
Describe a moment in your life that is similar to the material in the chapter.
Talk about what surprised you or found interesting in the chapter.
Relate the material from the chapter to something to you learned in this or another class.
Discuss a current event that reminds you of the material in the chapter.
How does the material in the chapter impact your everyday life?
What questions did you have that were not answered by the chapter material?
or any other way you would like to personally reflect on the chapter
For the journal entries over chapters 1-9 also remember that this is a personal reflection. You want to speak in the journal from your own point of view, but also keep it scholarly (relating to what you are learning or thinking critically about) Balance out critical thinking with personal opinions. Do not ignore either.

The Conclusion: Write a 2-3 page entry (typed, double spaced with reasonable fonts and margins) to address the following question:

In his conclusion, the author outlines how to, in his opinion, end dog whistle politics. To what extent do you agree or disagree with his ideas? Is it possible to end dog whistling? if so what recommendations would you make? If not, why not?

Organizing your journal:

You want to start each journal entry with the chapter name or number and the date you write it. Place this in the upper left hand side of the page.

Double space twice between each entry and keep all entries inside one single file. In other words, do not submit 11 files. You will turning in a single paper. Be sure to staple your pages. Place a title page with YOUR Name and the DATE.

MUST USE ATTACHED TO COMPLETE THIS CHAPTER!

The overall purpose of this chapter is to state the contribution of your capstone project to a particular discipline or field of study. This is the SO WHAT? chapter that gives the reasons for your work.

Keep in mind that readers may skip your entire first four chapters and read ONLY Chapter 5. Thus, all the necessary information MUST be included here.

Your Chapter 5 should be structured according to the outline given below, which lists the different subheadings you need to include. Consult the explanations given for guidance regarding what information to include under each of these subheadings:

Introduction:
This is based on the introductions in Chapters 1, 3, and 4. Present the focus of the capstone project. Use referenced information from Chapter 2, with appropriate in-text citations to provide reader with background material.

Statement of Problem:
Copy this from Chapter 1. Include the major question and sub questions you have researched.

Review of Methodology:
Explain what you did to research your project, but avoid going into any detail. Give a general explanation of how you carried out your research.

Summary of Results:
Return to Chapter 4. Review each sub question and what you learned from the research. Separate each sub question as a subheading. Interpret the results of each sub question to enable the reader to understand how these results answered the major question.

Relationship of Research to the Field:
Explain how your research supported or did not support the research described in your draft of Chapter 3. Use referenced material and in-text citations to validate your research.

Discussion of Results:
What was the significance of your findings? Explain how your work adds to the body of knowledge in your field.

Conclusions:
Provide a concluding section that explains how your project answered the major question that served as the impetus for your study and research.

For this paper choose any controversial issue that has been discussed in media or Congress for the last year and express your opinion on it by supporting it with quotations from at least SEVEN sources. Use library databases and only ONE ONLINE source (out of seven) is allowed. Online source means finding support for your claim by using the internet (Google, yahoo, etc.). You can’t just present two sides – take a stand and persuade the reader you’re right in your claim. Your audience is New York Times readers who disagree with your opinion. Present two sides of the argument in the introduction. Support claims of opponents and proponents from solid sources (use library databases). Write at least 5 full pages where you’ll demonstrate your ability to synthesize skills when you sum up the major arguments of proponents and opponents
Choose the strongest claims of the opposition and refute them by supporting your claim with quotations from the texts. You may choose any topic, except abortion and gun control.
You may choose any claim: definition, evaluation, comparison/contrast, cause/effect or combine them to be persuasive.

I restrict your choice by using only CURRENT issues. Start reading major papers, such as New York Times or Los Angeles Times and watching news to find a topic of your choice. Though you may choose any area of your interest, such as education, constitution, technology/science, politics, government, oil industry, health care, immigration, US military policy, US foreign policy, latest social issues, events on University and college campuses, I will not allow you to write on trite topics that were appropriate for Eng 50 class, such as legal drinking age, drugs, euthanasia, capital punishment, abortions, gun control, etc. Your topic should be approved by me.

Write at least 12-15 full pages research paper.

Think about the future 20 years from now (2030). Choose ONE specific area of your interest in technology, communications, economy, transport, government, immigration, finance, profession, medicine, etc. What do you think will happen in the area of your choice? Why do you think so? Do you have facts or statistics that can support your claim? Your audience is New York Times readers. They must understand the reason you’re writing about this issue. Is it to persuade? To suggest actions? To evaluate and provide your own insights on the topic? To make public aware of the danger of a certain action or to show its negative consequences? While you write, support your claims with quotations from different reliable sources (use library databases, articles from journals, main newspapers, books). Remember to address your opposition if you argue for something. The purpose of this paper is to analyze an issue in depth and provide the audience with your insights, explanation, and support.

Emphasis:
1. Focus on a cause/effect, fact, value, or policy claim.
2. Use purpose, audience, and form as your guides for research writing.
3. Evaluate your sources; be especially critical of Internet or Web sources.
4. Use various kinds of quotes: direct quotations, paraphrases, summaries, and block quotes.
5. Don’t let the “tail wag the dog”; use sources to make your point (i.e., claim).
6. Focus on the organization, restatements of the purpose and main idea, and good transitions.
7. For this essay, a plan is necessary, so write from an outline.
