For this paper you can choose any topic you are interested in and research the issue by using such sources as journals, reviews, magazines (for current political and social issues); books (for assessing judgments about history, policy, etc.); biographies (for assessing people); research reports and scientific studies; periodicals that cover entertainment and sports; blogs for exploring current affairs. To formulate a claim, you may ask the following questions:• What exactly is my opinion? Where do I stand?• Do I need to qualify my claim?• Can I make my judgment more specific?• According to what standards am I making my judgment?• Will readers accept my criteria, or will I have to defend them, too?
• What major reasons can I offer in support of my evaluation? The major focus for this paper is not only for finding a specific claim, but also coming up with very clear criteria ofevaluation. Why do you think, for example, that health care plan is going to ruin our country for future generations? Is it really bad for our seniors? What do you expect from an “ideal” (in your opinion) health care plan? The main features of your expectations may serve you as your criteria. Criteria are clear reasons that you choose while evaluating. You can take any fact and examine it if it’s good/bad. For whom is it good/bad? Remember to support your claim with specific examples (quotations from the text). Write 4.5-5 pages (at least 1250-1500 words). Your audience are your peers and your teacher who do not know anything about your subject. Research and quotations are mandatory. For this paper you must have at least 3 sources. However, I do not limit your research to library databases

Winsome Ways is a boutique in New Market, Maryland that sells various accessories for women. Amy Brown is the sole owner and has two employees, Jack and Connie. Before leaving for a long vacation, Amy sends a form letter to her suppliers stating that while she is away on vacation Connie will manage the store and sign any required paperwork on behalf of the business. On the day before her departure, Amy instructs Connie that Connie will manage the store while Amy is away and sign paperwork for the business but that she may not purchase any new lines of merchandise from the suppliers or any other seller of merchandise. A week into acting as manager, a salesperson from Jewels, a regular supplier, convinces Connie to purchase a line of jeweled eyeglass cases. Connie signs an agreement to purchase five of the eyeglass cases, and she agrees to purchase five eyeglass cases each month during the next twelve months.

The following day Jack is working at Winsome Ways alone while Connie takes a lunch
break. A salesman, who works for Teapots, a regular supplier of teapots, convinces Jack to sign a contract committing Winsome Ways to the purchase of a number of expensive china teapots together with a two year contract for Winsome Ways to purchase the same type and number of pots every three months.
Amy returns from her vacation and learns of the new contracts. She calls Jewels and tells them to pick up the eyeglass cases and she calls Teapots and tells them not to deliver any teapots, as she will not accept them. Both Jewels and Teapots tell her that the contracts had been entered into with Winsome Ways and she will be held responsible.

Question:
1. Amy comes to you, a Maryland lawyer, to obtain advice on whether she has any liability to Jewels and Teapots. What advice would you give to her and why?

2. Explain fully all concepts and defenses involved as to all parties in your answer.

Slide 2 should include your Research Question and your reason for wanting to examine this question.
When you go through your slides, you do not want to read everything. If all you do is read your slides,
people will get tired and feel that they can just read them on their own. So consider a picture.
NOTE: your reason for wanting to examine this question adds that interest to what you are doing. While this is beneficial in a presentation, it should not be in your paper. Papers are more objective.

Slide 3 to 4 – Presentation of Information
Here you want to present the major piece(s) of information that you obtained from your articles that
assists you with answering your question. You may also want to include the most interesting
Remember, information should be incorporated together. You should NOT present each source on a
different slide. You should NOT try to present everything you did in your paper. You need to be
selective here. What information best helps you to answer your question? Remember, even though this
is a presentation, information still needs to be cited.

You also need to consider how you present information. You do not want a paragraph that you will
read. It is better to use bullet points with phrases that you will expand upon. The point should then serve as triggers for you to present.

Slide 4 or 5 – Conclusion
What did you learn from doing this assignment? Remember the goal, that instructors have for you
writing papers is for you to learn something. So what did you learn? You will never be able to
completely answer your research question in a class paper. You should not attempt to completely
answer your question in a presentation. The goal is for you to have gained knowledge and for your to
pass that knowledge on to your fellow classmates. Again remember you can not present everything. So
what is/are the major items learned? Here again, this is a good place for a picture.

For this writing task, you’ll need to respond to the following scenario:

Who are you?

You are a team leader at Anders Consulting, a small but growing strategy consulting firm in Atlanta. For a little over three months, you have been supervising a team of junior-level management consultants, who just finished developing a strategic plan with a division of RGP Financial Services.

What’s the current situation?

The work you have supervised has involved a variety of research, interviewing, writing, and speaking activities. Part of your job as team leader is to collect and calculate ratings of each junior consultant’s performance based on his or her teammates’ input over the course of the RGP project. Table 1 shows the results for one of those junior management consultants, Kyle Houston.

What’s happening today?

Your boss, Inez Anders, sticks her head in your office after lunch and says, “I need to schedule Kyle Houston’s six-month review this afternoon.”

“Wow,” you reply, “has he been here that long already? Seems like he just got here.”

Preserving Identity

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

Defend logically this position on the integration of personal identity in social life.
Competency 4: Interpret human behavior in philosophical terms.

Explain how this view of personal identity fits within a more general account of human nature.
Competency 7: Communicate effectively in a variety of formats.
Use proper APA style and formatting to write effectively.
For the assignment, you are writing an essay. Begin your essay with a thorough description of yourself. What features, activities, and relationships are crucial elements of your existence as a person? Try to include a sampling of all of the different kinds of things without which you could not continue to be who you are.

Now, what is it that holds all of these disparate elements together to form a single individual? Construct a view of personal identity that explains how you create and preserve a unique personality that persists through all of the experiences in a lifetime. Use philosophical reasoning to defend your position as a coherent and practical view of our lives, showing how it compares with alternative notions.

Finally, explain how your position on personal identity fits with a more general account of human nature. Make sure that what you say about this issue is consistent with your resolution of the mind-body problem and your beliefs about the possibility of life after death.

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

Written communication: Written communication should be free of errors that detract from the overall message.
APA formatting: Resources and citations should be formatted according to APA (6th ed.) style and formatting standards.
Length of paper: Approximately 1,000 words, typed and double-spaced in Microsoft Word.
Number of resources: No external resources are required, but if you employ any, be sure to include appropriate citations and references for your sources.
Font and font size: Arial, 12-point.
Review the Preserving Identity Scoring Guide to understand how your assignment will be graded.

Mind and Body-1
What is human consciousness? How is this central feature of our existence related to the natural functions of our physical bodies? Which traditional resolution of the mind-body problem is most nearly correct? These are grand, abstract metaphysical questions, but we have a ringside seat for observing their application to our own experience. This is a great chance to follow Socrates’s advice about knowing ourselves.

Let us use our discussion of this topic as an opportunity to clarify, refine, and defend our own understanding of human nature. A position on this issue will probably become an important aspect of your personal philosophy of life.
Response Guidelines
Review the posts and respond to at least two learners. When responding, indicate how your peer’s comment has enriched your own understanding of the issues, either by reinforcing what had already occurred to you or by challenging the accuracy of your perceptions.

Life After Death-2
Do you believe that individual human beings survive their own deaths? Notice that your answer to this question needs to be consistent with your position on other aspects of human nature. Your account of the relationship between mind and body may significantly shape your conception of immortality. In addition, any afterlife worth having would have to provide for the notion of personal identity you have accepted.

Response Guidelines
Review the posts and respond to at least two learners. Responses should offer respectful criticism and encouragement in the development and expression of diverse points of view. Talking together about issues on which we disagree is a valuable way of increasing our understanding of ourselves and each other.
