Sternberg and Gardner have proposed multiple-intelligence theories against traditional theories that focused on a single view of intelligence. Critics of multiple-intelligence theories ask whether every specialized skill must have a separate intelligence. On the other hand, studies of the brain have shown that it processes different categories of data in different parts of the brain. Evolutionary psychology analyzes the functioning of the brain to explain the human mind. Do you think that the evolutionary psychology approach answers the criticism leveled against multiple-intelligence approaches? You may find articles on this approach on the Internet and in your local libraries. Also research information on how the human brain processes different categories of data in different parts of the brain. Write a reflective essay based on your research.

This assignment is a formal 1000-word essay in which you use your critical thinking skills to evaluate the argument of a op-ed (opinion) piece in a major newspaper or magazine.

…….

Your essay will be an assessment of what the author is trying to achieve, which strategies s/he is using to attain this end, and the effectiveness of those strategies. This will involve identifying the purpose and audience of the piece and then analysing the piece with respect to elements of argument we have discussed in class: structure, evidence, assumptions, and language. You should focus on only one or two of these elements;

…….

don’t try to cover everything! (At the same time you should bear in mind that all of these elements work together to achieve the overall effect.)

Remember that you are critiquing the text itself, not the topic it addresses. And note that the word “critiquing” does not mean that your essay must be negative: you may want to argue, for example, why the strategies employed are particularly effective.

…….

In your introduction you should do the following:

Briefly identify the article: title, source, author
Summarise its argument in no more than 2-3 sentences
Identify the element(s) you will discuss
Briefly suggest your evaluation of the argument’s effectiveness (optional)

…….

It is in the thesis statement that you will identify the element(s) and possibly the evaluation. The thesis will determine the structure of your essay; in other words, do not simply work your way through the article as it is written. Make sure that each paragraph is unified: that is, you should have one main idea per paragraph. In your conclusion you will summarise the preceding paragraphs, weighing the text’s strengths and weaknesses to arrive at an overall assessment of the piece.

…….

A few technical points. The first time you refer to the author, use the full name; after that, you can use the last name only. After using a quotation, put the paragraph number in parentheses: eg. (para. 5). You don’t need to quote a large section of text: quote just enough that I know which part of the essay you’re discussing. Simply use ellipses (…) to indicate the missing portion(s). The article should be cited in the bibliography using the following format:

…….

Last name, First name. “Title.” (Year, Month Date). Retrieved [date] from [Newspaper]: URL.

The article you choose can be written about any subject and with any tone. But it should be signed with an author’s name and put forward a clear argument. Here are some places to look for articles:

The Genesis operations management team, nearing completion of its agreement with Sensible Essentials, was asked by senior management to present a capital plan for the operating expansion. The capital plan was not to be a wish list but an analysis of the necessary expenditures to successfully establish a fully equipped operating facility overseas.
In addition, senior management requested meaningful financial and operating metrics to ensure that the performance objectives for the facility were being met. The operations management team was given five days to accomplish the following:
  1. Calculate the firm’s WACC.
  2. Prepare and analyze each planned capital expenditure.
  3. Evaluate, rank, and recommend the capital expenditures according to beneficial value to the organization, using the evaluation tools NPV, payback, and IRR. Evaluation, ranking, and recommendations should be by category of expenditures. For example, facility, equipment 1, 2, and 3, and inspection.
  4. …….
    …..
  5. Using the selected choices in part three, calculate the full cost of establishing a fully equipped facility. This would include the facility, equipment 1, 2, and 3, and inspection. In addition, calculate the payback, NPV, and IRR for the completed facility.
  6. Construct and recommend between three and five metrics to measure the performance of the organization. At least one metric should be dividend decision-making driven.
  7. Prepare an executive summary along with a separate document showing the calculations.
Part I
Following the example of the operations management team, do the following:
  1. Download the Capital Budgeting spreadsheet, and compute the WACC for Genesis.
  2. Using the information provided in the spreadsheet, analyze Genesis’s project options. Then, calculate the periodic and cumulative net cash flows for each potential project and its associated options. Ple
ase note that there are five projects (facility, equipment pieces 1, 2, and 3, and internal inspection), and that each project offers multiple-configuration options (facility size, equipment type, etc.).
  3. Evaluate, rank, and recommend a specific option for each capital project according to beneficial value to the organization, using the evaluation tools NPV, payback, and IRR.
  4. Construct and recommend between three and five metrics to measure the performance of the new operating strategy. At least one metric should reflect dividend policy as it relates to rewarding shareholders.
  5. …….

Title: A Guideline for Child Welfare Services New Social Workers Regarding Methamphetamine Abuse. Methamphetamine Implications within the home and the implications of prenatal exposure in infant and school aged children
Author Veronica West
Degree: Doctor of Psychology
Institution: California Southern University
Scope of Study
The topic of my research is, a Guideline for New Child Welfare Services Social Workers regarding Methamphetamine abuse and the implications within the home and the implications of prenatal exposure in infants and school aged children. The report is a guideline for new Child Welfare Services (CWS) Social Workers (SW’s) in San Luis Obispo County (SLO).
Problem Statement
The purpose of this study is to give new Social Workers tangible knowledge about the drug’s chemical make-up and the effects on the using parent’s brain and the drug exposed child. This project is also meant to give the new SW information regarding the signs of Methamphetamine abuse within a home and the impact the drug may have on the child exposed to Methamphetamines.
It is important for new social workers to be aware of the history of the drug and how it affects the brain of both the using parent(s) and the exposed child. Methamphetamine abuse is often connected to poly substance abuse and many of the CWS children end up in protective custody (PC) due to the issues of neglect such as lack of food, basic hygienic care, dental and medical care, and lack of housing that may occur due to parental addiction to Meth. When the social workers are in the home it is important for them to understand and observe the signs that could indicate meth usage. Some common signs with the parents may be scabies, rapid speech and jittering. The SW may also encounter drug paraphernalia such as bongs, needles, foil paper, and glass or metal pipes all within plain sight of the new social worker. With the epidemic of Methamphetamine use in SLO County and across most communities in the country, it is my belief that it is imperative that new SW’s in the CWS system become educated and informed about the implications of methamphetamine use and its effect on families in the community.
Findings and Conclusions:
Crystal meth is the most popular name of the street version for the pharmacological compound of methamphetamine; the drug has many names in each community. Crystal meth usage has been around since the Korean War but its usage began primarily on the West Coast of the United States although its use has increased over the years and is now fairly evenly spread across America. There is a direct correlation of combination drug use with multiple substances or polysubstance abuse.
“40% of child welfare officials in 303 US Counties in the summer of 2012 reported an increase of out of home placement (foster care) because of parental Methamphetamine usage (Michael, 2006).” CWS in most areas are receiving higher levels of referrals and protective custody of children due to parental drug abuse.
The epidemic of meth abuse has impacted the CWS system’s across the country. The 2004 National Survey on Drug Use and Health reports that 1.4 million Americans aged twelve and over had tried methamphetamines at some point in their lives. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reports that 61,782 meth labs were seized nationwide between 2000 and 2004. These raids affected more than 15,000 children. Many SW’s in the community are not aware of the protocol when they happen upon a clandestine meth lab. This report will offer clear guidelines to consider when they encounter a clandestine meth lab when investigating a CWS referral. Currently substance abuse contributes to 75% of incidents of child abuse and neglect of children in foster care (. Not sure why this is here Nearly 80% of the children in foster care have prenatal exposure to maternal substance abuse. Prenatal drug exposure can cause damage to the developing brain causing learning disabilities and processing information at home and at school is often problematic. Newborns placed into CWS custody may present as very agitated, unable to eat and can be very difficult to care for and require many ancillary services to deal with their physical issues. The new social worker may encounter numerous referrals from the local schools due to a child’s inability to concentrate or hold their attention while in class, chronic absenteeism from school as well as a lack of appropriate adult supervision within the home due to the drug use.
Parent-child interaction therapies are often used with mothers recovering from drug usage. This type of therapy is intended to improve parent-child relationships, create a positive discipline program, and reduce behavior problems in children with Meth exposure. Parents learn new skills from a coach. A research study found significant overall improvement in parent distress and fewer child behavior problems. The parent or caregiver must learn what the signs of drug exposure are and the behavioral and psychosocial efforts that may be needed to assist the child. Studies show the earlier the child is connected with community resources and engaging in these types of interactive therapy the greater the chance that the child’s drug exposed brain can be “re-wired” potentially reducing behavioral and learning problems in the future. The County of San Luis Obispo has graduated a large number of mothers in this type of intensive parent and child interactive programs. The program is currently funded through Drug and Alcohol and the Department of Social Services. The use of attachment theory has shown to have very good results in children bonding with their once addicted mother.
The new social worker will benefit from the knowledge of this study when working with the community with the goal of increased attachment with the methamphetamine exposed child and the parents.
Veronica this proposal needs refinement. First the focus is not actually on the psychology it is a educational approach with some attention to psychology. Proposals need to be based upon a problem rooted in psychology which in some way you have here with some focus on addiction. Further the examination of the issue must be based upon psychological theory, which is not present in this discussion. Here is what I need you to do to make this more appropriately aligned with what is required. First focus on the addiction theory as this is what is answers the question of why do mothers that smoke crack place their children in danger. Next and this is very important present how this will improve the response and results of the CPS investigation. Finally the proposal should be two pages long. It is important that you learn how to what needs to be said succinctly. Revise accordingly and resubmit.

Use titles and subtitles per the format for readability purposes. Focus upon the idea of conducting a SWOT analysis with respect to Louis Vuitton’s external and global environment which includes the remote, industry, and operating environments. Please include the SWOT analysis with the four quadrants in the appendix of your paper (after the References page). You can find the case study SWOT analysis template in Doc Sharing.

Assignment Checklist:

  • Conduct a SWOT analysis on the case study company’s external and global environment.
  • Create a case study analysis on the company’s external and global environmental issues while focusing upon the remote, industry, and operating environments.

Read the following chapters and case in your Pearce and Robinson text:

Chapter 4: “The External Environment”

Chapter 5: “The Global Environment”

Case 14: “Louis Vuitton in Japan”

Key Concepts

Five Forces Model. The model’s collective strength determines the profit potential of an industry.

  • Rival Competitors use tactics like price competition, product introduction, and advertising slug fests.
  • New Entrants can bring new capacity, the desire to gain market share, and often substantial resources.
  • Suppliers can exert bargaining power on participants in an industry by raising prices or reducing the quality of purchased goods and services.
  • Buyers can force down prices, demand higher quality or more service, and play competitors off against each other.
  • Substitute products or services limit the potential of an industry by placing a ceiling on the prices it can charge.

The aim of this final paper is to give you the opportunity to bring the course readings and discussions into creative conversation with your own religious/spiritual/philosophical stance. This is not simply a journal entry, but an academic exercise in which you intertwine the personal and the intellectual.

The aim of the paper: To academically and personally engage THREE different themes — choose one theme from three different world religions of your choice (Please choose from Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Islam, and Judaism). By “theme” I mean something specific: for example, reincarnation, four noble truths, the middle way, the 5 relationships, Te, etc.

In your discussion of each theme, be sure to provide some context — however brief. For example, where is the theme from and how does it fit into the specific world religion?  How did it’s understanding affect you?  No outside research is required. Please refer especially to the Huston Smith text, but you can also refer to the notes, video clips, etc. from the class.
The following questions may help get you started:
*What topics stimulated you the most?
*What confirmed and enriched your present thinking, beliefs, experience?
*What challenged you?
*What did you disagree with? What theme clearly conflicted with your own belief or the belief of your religious tradition?
*What topic did you find meaningful and inspiring, and how do you plan on integrating it into your belief system?

This personal-academic engagement with three themes from this course should be approximately 3-4 pages, double-spaced, and 12 point font.  Worth 100 points.

Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity
