Guidelines for Evaluation of Summarized
Literature Review
Directions
1. Select five articles that reflect a comprehensive literature review of the theory propounded by the theorist you have been assigned and summarize each. The articles should contain at least two primary and secondary sources, one of which must be a research article.
2. A primary source is an article written by the theorist herself. A secondary source is an article written about the theory or its use by another author. A research article is one in which the theory was used as the foundation for a research study; this may be a primary or secondary source depending upon whether the research was done by the theorist or by someone using her theory.
1. Start each summary on a separate page. Summaries should be one page in length for each article. Begin each summary with the correct APA citation of the article.
2. The summary should contain an introduction, a synopsis of the article, and a conclusion that contains your own evaluation of the article and its relevance.
3. Integrate all articles into a comprehensive reference list at the end of the literature review.
Articles
Selection reflects research into the historical perspective of the theory.
Selection reflects breadth of research into the theory and its utilization and evaluation.
Summaries
Summary is articulate and includes the entire article.
Summary clearly describes the author’s perspective.
Editorial/personal response demonstrates critical thinking.
Note: Points will be deducted for incorrect APA citation and poor composition.

Evaluation
This paper is essentially a review of scholarly literature on a topic of your choice that is related to family communication, although the topic must be approved by me. The paper should be 12 to 20 pages long and the literature review should be exhaustive, which means that you should find and cite as much scholarly research about your topic as possible. This scholarly research should consist mostly of empirical research articles that you will find by searching appropriate scholarly databases. In general, you should avoid sources like textbooks, newsletters, magazines, etc. The literature review should lead logically to a set of unique, original hypotheses and/or research questions. How well the paper does this will primarily determine its grade. In essence, this paper is very much like the opening section, up to and including the hypotheses and research questions, of the scholarly research articles you should be reading to put the paper together. The key difference is that you will NOT be following through with an actual original research study to test those hypotheses or answer those research questions (at least not in this class Smile).
Format:
Papers must be engagingly written, well organized, grammatically and mechanically correct, and follow appropriate elements of APA style. (I strongly urge each student to either purchase or gain access to a copy of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition. You will need it for this class and for most others you take in our program.) As mentioned above, the paper should be approximately 12 to 20 pages long. It should be double-spaced throughout, including the list of references at the end. It should also include a title page with content and structure suggested by the APA style handbook. The paper must be written in either Times New Roman or Garamond font, 12 pt. size. Use standard one-inch margins on all sides.
Texts: from Chapter 4 of Rereading America, Devor’s “Becoming Members of Society: Learning the Social Meanings of Gender”, Kilbourne’s “Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt: Advertising and Violence”,
Kimmel’s “‘Bros before Hos’: The Guy Code”, and Orenstein’s “Just Between You, Me, and my 622 BFFs”. Also, consider the chapters on concision and clarity in The Nuts and Bolts of College Writing.

Choose one of the following prompts. In response to the prompt, write an essay that fulfills its requirements.
Prompt 1: Your thesis should address this question: In what ways does Devore agree and disagree with Kimmel and Orenstein? Explain for a reader who has not read Devor’s essay, “Becoming Members of Society: Learning the Social Meanings of Gender”, Devor’s description of the “I”, the “me”, and the “generalized other”; in particular, describe the how Devor sees these concepts affecting the development of gender identities. Then, compare these ideas from Devor’s essay to the Kimmel’s and Orenstein’s ideas in their essays about how gender identities or gender roles develop. In your essay’s conclusion, explain what main idea would you like your reader to take away from an examination of the three essays.
Prompt 2: Your thesis should address this question: In what ways do Devore’s definitions of masculinity and femininity, and his descriptions of how they affect behaviors in society, hold true and/or are questioned in the other essays you have chosen? Explain for a reader who has not read Devor’s essay, “Becoming Members of Society: Learning the Social Meanings of Gender”, Devor’s descriptions of masculinity and femininity; also describe how he believes these concepts affect behaviors in society. Then compare this information you have gleaned from Devor’s essay to the essays of Kilbourne and either Kimmel or Orenstein. In your essay’s conclusion, explain what main idea would you like your reader to take away from an examination of the three essays.
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS/MARKETING INVESTIGATIONS
PROJECT BRIEFING
This project requires you to develop a proposal for a piece of primary research which examines some aspect of the debate between two schools of thought, Global Convergence and Global Divergence. The project is in two parts and both parts carry equal weighting.
Part 1: Theoretical Foundations
You are required to develop an annotated bibliography of 10 journal articles which you believe have made an important contribution to the debate around Global Convergence and Global Divergence. The annotated bibliography needs to explain:
• Why you believe each article is important;
• The philosophical underpinning and methodological approach taken in each article;
• The main findings and key conclusions of the article;
• The overall character of the bibliography as a whole in terms of philosophical underpinnings, methodologies, findings and how representative it is of the debate between Global Convergence and Global Divergence as a whole.
Part 2: Primary Research Proposal
You are required to write a proposal for a piece of primary research which would contribute to the debate between the Global Convergence and Global Divergence schools of thought. The proposal should be consistent with the typical expectations for primary research placed on an MSc student.
The proposal should contain:
• A clearly stated research question which is derived from an element of the literature in the annotated bibliography in Part 1 of the project;
• A discussion of the different ways in which this research question could be answered with a consideration of the strengths and weaknesses of each approach;
• A clear explanation of the proposed methodological approach, its weaknesses and the implications of those weaknesses for any results that may come out of it;
• An explanation of the rationale for this approach and why it was chosen.
The word limit for this project is 4,000 words (+/- 10%). All projects should be submitted through SurreyLearn by 16:00 on Tuesday 27th May 2014.

Complete a case study of Coca Cola Corporation. A formal, in-depth case study analysis requires you to utilize the entire strategic management process. Assume your group is a consulting team asked by the ABC Corporation to analyze its external/internal environment and make strategic recommendations. You must include exhibits to support your analysis and recommendations.
The case study must include these components:
• 6 pages of text plus the exhibits
• Cover page (must include the company name, your group name, a list of the active team members and the date of submission, and a references page; the document must follow current APA guidelines)
• Matrices, which must be exhibits/attachments in the appendix and not part of the body of the analysis (The Strategy Club has excellent templates/examples for exhibits and matrices: http://strategyclub.com/free-student-template/)
Case study deliverables (text must follow this order with APA level headings for each component):
1. Executive Summary
As you know, an ES is intended to give an executive an overview of the results from the paper/analysis. It is not to tell the executive what it is you are going to show. An executive summary is a brief overview of a document’s purpose, results, and conclusions condensed for the quick reading of an executive or manager.
2. Existing mission, objectives, and strategies
3. A new mission statement (include the number of the component in parenthesis before addressing that component)
Great mission statements address these nine components:
• Customers: Who are the firm’s customers?
• Products or services: What are the firm’s major products or services?
• Markets: Geographically, where does the firm compete?
• Technology: Is the firm technologically current?
• Concern for survival, growth, and profitability: Is the firm committed to growth and financial soundness?
• Philosophy: What are the basic beliefs, values, aspirations, and ethical priorities of the firm?
• Self-concept: What is the firm’s distinctive competence or major competitive advantage?
• Concern for public image: Is the firm responsive to social, community, and environmental concerns?
• Concern for employees: Are employees a valuable asset of the firm?
4. Analysis of the firm’s existing business model
Most operating systems use a virtual memory manager (VMM) whose responsibility is to manage the relationship between the virtual organization of memory as seen by an application with the physical organization of memory from the operating system’s point of view. Virtual memory addresses must be mapped to physical address and vice versa.
Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you:
1. Differentiate between virtual memory and physical memory.
2. Evaluate the benefits gained by running applications when the operating system uses a virtual memory manager.
3. Analyze how virtual memory addresses get translated into physical addresses.
4. Analyze how a modern operating system translates 32-bit and 64-bit virtual addresses to physical addresses on the same machine.
5. Create a relationship diagram, using MS Visio or Dia, depicting the relationship between virtual addresses to physical addresses. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
6. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.
Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:
· Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
· Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
· Include charts or diagrams created in Visio or an equivalent such as Dia. The completed diagrams / charts must be imported into the Word document before the paper is submitted.
The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:
· Describe the functions, layers, and resources of an operating system.
· Use technology and information resources to research issues in enterprise architecture.
· Write clearly and concisely about Advanced Computer Architecture topics using proper writing mechanics and technical style conventions.
