Resource: TMGT/540 McGraw-Hill Casebook Read the Waverider Communications case and the Ecton, Inc. cases. Select one of these cases as the basis of your paper.

…….

Write a 750- to 1,000-word paper explaining the extent to which the technology is potentially disruptive by answering the following questions: What technology or innovation was introduced in the case? Would demanding customers consider the innovation’s performance to be inadequate?

…….

Would a different customer group be delighted to use the innovation – despite its limitations – because it allows them to do something that they couldn’t do effectively or affordably in the past? To what degree is the technology presented in the case potentially disruptive? Can it fit Christensen’s model? If so, which of Christensen’s recommendations make sense to apply to the situation presented in the case? How can the company position its technology to be most disruptive?

…….

What recommendations do you have for Waverider or Ecton to best take advantage of the disruptive characteristics? What techniques might be applied to promote continued innovation at the firm as research becomes available with respect to the market for its product? Take these general recommendations and provide specific recommendations for each company to move forward. Include a minimum of two University Library references. Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

instruction
To evaluate a piece of research you should bear in mind the accessibility of its research strategies and methods as these will be the primary target of your evaluation in the context of sociological theory and broader social issues involved. The object of this assessment is for you to demonstrate that you can evaluate the research of others. This will necessarily involve a critical appraisal of:

(1) the clarity and coherence of the research aims, objectives and questions;
(2) the appropriateness of the researcher(s) choices of strategies and methods;
(3) whether the research meets its own objectives;
(4) whether its conclusions follow logically from its findings;
(5) its validity and reliability;
(6) its theoretical framing and social relevance.

Remember that this assessment is designed to test your understanding of social research methods and the contexts and purposes in which they are applied, as well as your understanding of the theoretical contexts in which research problems and issues are framed. The model for this assessment is not the essay; it is the book review with a focus on methods. For examples of book reviews consult any major sociological journal, for example, Sociology. Remember that it is important to provide adequate description so that the reader knows what the research is about, but that the aim of the exercise is to provide a critical commentary on the research.

You have a corrections officer who has worked in the county jail for 7 years. He has been described as a dedicated, competent employee, one who is well respected by colleagues and administrators alike. However, personal problems have arisen in his life. His wife is filing for divorce, and his daughter, contrary to his wishes, is involved with a man who has been arrested on several occasions for domestic violence. On this particular day, he reports for work tired and irritable after dealing with problems at home. One 18-year-old inmate quickly begins to get on his nerves. He never stops complaining, with most of his complaints directed at the officer. Finally, after telling the inmate to “shut up or else” several times, the officer lost control and slapped him hard across the face, leaving a mark and a small cut.
The confrontation was witnessed by other inmates. This is the first time that this has happened to the officer. His supervisor sends another officer to cover his post, and he reports to the superintendent’s office. He recounts the incident, concluding with “I did it; I hit him hard and deserve to be fired. Or would you let me resign? I am very sorry it happened this way.” During the initial investigation, the superintendent feels confident that the officer has violated several tenets outlined in the code of ethics for public safety personnel, and he forwards his disciplinary recommendation for your review.
Assignment Guidelines
Research the correctional officer codes of ethics to confirm any potential violations, as outlined by the superintendent. Then, address the following in 750-1,000 words:
After completing your review of the case file, explain what you would do under these circumstances.
For this task, you should research different codes of ethics related to corrections officer, and base your responses on a particular code of ethics. You can choose from codes of ethics promulgated by different professional associations such as the American Correctional Association, or you can use the code of ethics promulgated by a particular state’s department of corrections.
  • What codes of ethics can you identify and how might they apply to this scenario? Explain.
    • Would you fire the corrections officer? Why or why not?
    • Would you allow him to resign instead of terminating him? Why or why not?
    • Is there another course of action that you would consider taking? If so, explain.
  • Rationalize the decision you make.
    • How much weight, if any, should legitimately be given to his personal problems? Explain.
    • To what extent, if any, would your decision be guided by the institution’s subculture? Explain.
  • Compile your responses to the above questions into a single Word document that you will submit to your instructor.
  • Be sure to reference all sources using APA style.

It is important to consider factors influencing physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development long before the baby arrives. In this discussion, you will examine the relative roles of genetics and the environment. Environmental effects on development include both macrocultural and microcultural influences. Macrocultural influences are the broader influences on a child’s development, such as mass media, religious denomination, societal rules, or educational norms. Microcultural influences are those on a small scale, such as family eating habits, traditions, hierarchical structures, and routines.

Based on the principles of behaviorism, John B. Watson argued, tongue-in-cheek, that he could take a healthy baby and make him into a lawyer, doctor, or thief. Sandra Scarr argued that often a child’s genetic predispositions override the influence of the environment. Based on what you have learned so far about development, select a well-known movie that addresses the nature-versus-nurture question. Some examples are: The Blind Side, Rudyand A Beautiful Mind. With reference to the film, respond to the following:

  1. How influential is the role of genetics in the child’s development?
  2. What about the role of the environment, temperament, and teratogenics, among others?
  3. Do you agree with Watson, Scarr, both, or neither?

Support your arguments with research, citing sources.

Write your initial response in 3–4 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
