When an organization decides to hire for a new position either internally or externally, there are a lot of methods that can be used to determine the most talented employee for the position. Most organizations use a combination of methods, such as personality tests and past work examples. With various methods available, it is important for the organization to know the strengths and weaknesses of the methods being considered for selecting potential employees.

This week, you will complete a Group Project on methods of selecting talented employees. Your Instructor will assign you to a group by Day 1 of Week 2. As a group, you will discuss and complete the assignment listed below using the Groups area located after Week 8 in the classroom. All group discussions should take place in the group Discussion forum. As you develop various drafts throughout your Group Project, make sure ALL drafts are posted to your group’s area. This will ensure that all group members and your Instructor can view the development process. At the end of Week 8, you will evaluate each group member’s participation in both projects.

Each group should elect one group member to submit the final version of the Group Project to the Week 3: Group Project area. Be sure to include the names of all group members. Based on this evaluation, your instructor has the right to reduce or remove your grade in BOTH projects.

Your Group Project will be a PowerPoint presentation of 10-15 slides that includes all of the elements listed below. The presentation should analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each of the following methods in selecting talented employees:

Draw as widely and as explicitly as you can on our discussions and your life experiences and answer the following question. What roles does our participation in the social world have on our cognitive, social, emotional, and personality development? Examine both the positive and negative consequences of being social creatures, residing in a social environment. Furthermore, your answer should address the adaptive and maladaptive uses of cognition. Include in your discussion the 7 features of human cognition and cite examples of them from the articles and films. Feel free to use any personal experiences as well to demonstrate your understanding of the material.

The paper is to be five (5) pages in length, double-spaced; 1-inch margins, and font size should be 10-12. Please make sure you include all three (3) articles, three (3) films [dr. strangelove, pawnbroker, and the wild child], and as indicated above, at least one example of each of the seven (7) features of cognition.

Write a procedural email message to employees reminding them of standard operating procedures or organizational changes that take the form of step-by-step instructions. Be creative, or use an issue applicable to your work environment. (Example can be found on page 76, Figure 5.1, of the course text.)

The message should take the form of an email; however, you will submit your assignment to the online course shell.

The procedural message must adhere to the following requirements:

Content:
Introduce the main idea of the message in a concise, informative manner.
Itemize three to five (3-5) key points with detail.
Provide information about where and to whom questions should be directed.
Format:
Use a descriptive subject line or heading.
Use bullets to separate ideas and simplify reading.
Style:
Include an appropriate and professional greeting / salutation.
Use email form including: To:, From:, Subject:, and Signature.
Clarity / Mechanics:
Ensure that there are no grammar or spelling errors.
Ensure that there are no clarity, writing, and mechanical errors.

Your assignment must:

Be typed, single-spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

Take home assignment 2: Book Discussion
Socialnomics – How Social Media Transforms the Way We Live & Do Business

Part 2 of the take-home assignment also contributes 10 points or 10% of your grade. I’d like you to read chapters 11-19 of Erik Qualman’s Socialnomics. I’m looking for a write-up of 4 pages (10 point font, double spaced) with your responses to the following queries.

1) In chapter 11, the author refers to the need for businesses to ask the question, “what is the social play” of their plans and programs. What does “social play” mean. Describe briefly the strategies of a brand that you use which has a strong “social play” in your view.
2) Have you ever created a blog? As an exercise for this class, please go to the blog Tumblr and create a blog account for yourself. Also conduct a search on Tumblr for any blogs that have been written on the brand/product for which you are writing a marketing plan. List 5 things that you learnt about your product as a result of the search on Tumblr.
3) Chapter 13 lists 100+ social media tools available. Of the list provided, please pick 5, look these up and write a short blurb on each. When picking the tools, keep in mind your role as a marketer and describe how these tools could be useful to marketing professionals.
4) The author states that “only viewers make videos go viral”. However, what could you as a marketer do to maximize the chances of a video for your product to go viral?
5) List 2 videos that you have shared on a social media platform in the recent past. What were the main reasons that made you share those videos?
6) Pick 2 of the following brands, considered to be strong social brands. These are: Burberry, Four Seasons, Zappos, Starbucks and West Elm. After some research on social media sites that include (but not restricted to) Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest & Instagram, please write a couple of paragraphs on the strategies and tactics used by these brands that make them strong social brands.

The Brisson-Banks (2010) article in the required reading for this unit compares the five different change management
models presented in this unit, and it describes various situational variables that could influence the effectiveness of each.
Utilizing all of the knowledge accumulated through this and the previous units, write a critique of the article.

Discuss power within group relationships by answering and discussing some of the following questions. However, do not simply answer these, one by one; treat them as overview for you to prepare to write your entry.

Silver Stars

Through this project we will celebrate the growth and development of all domains. Reflect on adults age 65 plus who have graced our society (nationally, internationally,or globally recognized) and represent the more modern view of aging. That is, rather than wait for old age to take them, these individuals capitalized on old age and took old age by the horns. Include female and male figures. Select positive and nationally, internationally, or globally recognized individuals.

Create a power point of 10 influential elder (late adulthood) icons who have made lasting contributions to the nation or world in a diversity of fields. I do not want pictures of people who made a contribution when they were young and now they are elderly. I want pictures of people who in their late adulthood have made lasting contributions. They must have made their contributions during this stage of their lives. You may look for poets, writers, journalists, doctors, philosophers, politicians, actors, artists, educators, math, science,religious people, etc. Use various areas and not just one or two. Again, make sure that they made their active contributions during late adulthood. You may choose from different parts of the world. Include 10 elders. They must mean a great deal to you in order for you to select them. But they must be nationally renowned or globally renowned. No grandparents and so on, please. Use formal sources.

Instructions:

1. You will create 12 frames. A cover page with Assignment Title and any other designs you’d care to put.

2. Then 10 frames, each frame will have a substantial size picture (1/3 to 1/2 page) of a special silver star (deceased or alive role model). The pic must be of them in their late adulthood stage. On each frame, tell me in 2-3 sentences when (year) and where (city, state,nation) they were born; and, what they are remembered or known for.

3. The last frame will be the bibliography. Cite a complete APA format bibliography so that I will know where you got the information from. Do not use wikipedia or similar wiki sources.

Eight pages, page numbered, type-written, double spaced, 12 font in New Times Roman, APA (6th Edition) style, no abstract needed. In addition to those pages the paper must have a cover page and bibliography (in APA format).

It will be marked on strength of content, clarity, flow of information and writing skills (capitalization, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure). At least three of your sources of information must be academically accepted sources (peer reviewed journal articles and books) or you WILL NOT get full marks. Additional resources can be included – Wikipedia is not allowed as a source. Marks will be lost if this is not followed. NO personal interviews are allowed at the 100 level so DON’T USE them – choose a topic that does not require this type of information.
