Animal Lab Report

Procedures: 1. Visit http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/phyla/phyla.html; Introduction to the Metazoa: Animals, Animals, Animals!, University of California, Berkeley Museum of Paleontology. Click the Systematics link and learn more about a group you desire to begin researching for this lab. Note: The boxes without images have not yet been developed. 2. If possible, visit a local zoo and try to learn more about the animal group you are researching. Take pictures, talk to the zookeepers, etc. 3. Visit a number of websites (a few starters are listed below) that deal with the great diversity of animals and their biological, ecological, and economic impacts on life and human society. Gather (and cite!) information and images to allow you to prepare a poster or PowerPoint presentation. 4. In your poster or PowerPoint presentation, you will need to detail the classification of the group of creatures you are detailing. 5. Required elements include: the time of first occurrence, fossil record (if any), economic and societal impact of the group, and its evolutionary importance (for example the green algae are not terribly important save as a stem group for the evolution of plants).

5. Describe discretion in law enforcement. Explain how discretion is related to the emergence of ethical issues. In your answer you should utilize the concepts of crime/fighter or public servant and also provide examples of the types of ethical issues that may arise.
6. Discuss the elements of the formal police code and contrast them with the values of the police subculture.

Ajax Fuels, Inc., is developing a new additive for airplane fuels. The additive is a mixture of three ingredients: A, B, and C.

For proper performance, the total amount of additive (amount of A + amount of B + amount of C) must be at least 10 ounces per gallon of fuel. However, because of safety reason, the amount of additive must not exceed 15 ounces per gallon of fuel. The mix or blend of the three ingredients is critical. At least 1 ounce of ingredient A must be used for every ounce of ingredient B, and the amount of ingredient C must be greater than or equal to one half the amount of ingredient A.

If the costs per ounce for ingredients A, B, and C are $ 0.10, $0.03 and $ 0.09, respectively, find the minimum-cost mixture of A, B, and C for each gallon of airplane fuel.

Formulate the problem and solve it on a computer either by using the Microsoft’s Excel. You need to submit the formulation as well as the computer output.

This work employs a phenomenological approach to investigate how people experience the radical transformation of their work lives caused by reengineering (BPR) processes. The common essences of the experiences of three co-researchers are synthesized into a composite textural-structural description of the reengineering phenomenon. The analysis of the rich, multidimensional information offered by participants reveals that reengineering projects elicit complex experiences involving a multitude of horizons. In particular, the analysis suggests that, by taking the discourse of efficiency to extremes, reengineering ends up by unveiling the conflicts inherent in the arrangements that generally characterize workplace. This proposition goes beyond the traditional belief that the basic reason for resistance in BPR projects is the fear of layoffs or the modification of power arrangements. Indeed, such factors seem to be part of the problem. It is also necessary to understand the imp! ortant role of the crisis that reengineering may generate in individuals’ ongoing process of sense making.

You’ve been hired by an unprofitable firm to determine whether it should shut down its unprofitable operation.

The firm currently uses 50,000 workers to produce 200,000 units of output per day. The daily wage (per worker) is $80, and the price of the firm’s output is $25. The cost of other variable inputs is $400,000 per day. Although you don’t know the firm’s fixed cost, you know that it is high enough that the firm’s total costs exceed its total revenue.

Sometimes market activities (production, buying and selling) have unintended positive or negative effects outside the market’s scope. This is called an externality.
