Answer Question 2 of Learn by Doing in Ch. 3 in Justice Administration.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper answering the following questions. Elaborate on your answers and explain your reasoning.

What kinds of information would you collect to address problems such as drugs, prostitution, and vandalism?

What kinds of responses might be considered?

What types of assessment would you perform?

A new low-income housing development in your community consists of 58 apartments and has become a popular hangout for selling drugs, drinking liquor, and intimidating residents until early morning hours. Gunshots are an occasional occurrence, with 5-10 calls for service in every 24-hour period. Criminals hide guns in the thick overgrowth around the complex, and when approached, they flee through a large open field behind the complex. An adjacent convenience store has become a problem as well, particularly as a magnet for drug dealers. A nearby drug house also contributes to the problem, and a T-shaped alley behind the store provides easy ingress and egress for buyers, both on foot and in vehicles. The lighting is poor (with people frequently shooting out street lights), and pay telephones in the store’s front are used constantly by traffickers. Street people in the area also engage in theft-, drug-, prostitution-, and vandalism-related activities. Additionally, these people sleep on private property, defecate and urinate on public streets, an engage in public drunkenness, graffiti, and littering. What kinds of information would you collect concerning te area and its drug problem? What kinds of responses might be considered? What type of assessment would you perform?

Situation You and our partner whom is also your best friend are on patrol when you receive a call that calls specifically for your friend Johnny that will require him to stay past his shift which conflicts with the time he supposed to be at his other job. Which by the way he uses his service weapon for and equipment and uniform with the acceptation of the security shirt he gets from the company in hoping of Lessing the already plied up due to his youngest son’s medical expenses hence the reasoning for his second job. He begins you to conver for his and take the call However your just as tired as him have court in the and heard from other fellow officers that he does this to everyone and has abuses there kinds making them sick of covering him. You tell Johnny that you will report him reporting his wrong doings to the supervisor and etc. reporting his violations and that you will not tolerate it any longer. You than try to reason why Johnny telling his to quit the job and that he should pick jobs that are within police employment guidelines and that it is not safe to get less sleep let alone sleep on the job and to pick a job that won’t cause conflict . Questions Do you feel this is the best path to take giving the situation do you think anything bad can come out of this path of action ?

For this Assignment, you will be interviewing a law enforcement officer involved in drug law enforcement and creating a minimum 15-slide PowerPoint presentation (not including the cover and reference slides) covering federal and state statutes for drug trafficking.

Before your interview, research and identify both federal statutes and your state statutes that deal with drug trafficking and have examples of the crimes and punishments that relate to cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana.

Then, identify a local, state or federal law enforcement officer whose primary duty is drug law enforcement and ask questions related to whether or not your researched statutes are effective in terms of law enforcement efforts to decrease drug trafficking. Questions should include specific aspects of drug law enforcement in which the officer is engaged and any jurisdictional or cooperation issues the officer has encountered in enforcing the drug statutes.

Directions

Your 15-slide requirement is excluding your introduction and reference slides. Use one basic slide design and layout. Limit slides to between 6 and 8 lines of content. You may use pictures, charts and graphs to supplement your material as long as they do not take up the entire slide Use bullets for your main points. Use speaker notes to fully explain what is being discussed in the bullet points as though you are presenting to an audience.

Suppose a local college has tasked you to develop a database that will keep track of students and the courses that they have taken. In addition to tracking the students and courses, the client wants the database to keep track of the instructors teaching each of the courses.

Use the internet to research the types of information that a college would want to track in a database. Focus your attention on information that could represent entities within a database as well as attributes of such entities.

Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:

Describe the purpose of the database. Based on your research and / or common knowledge of a college and the information tracked by a college, describe the entities of the database and the attributes of each entity. Based on your research and / or common knowledge of a college and the information tracked by a college, describe the business rules that could impact the structure of the database. Determine the information that the conceptual model of the database would include and determine the information that the physical model of the database would include. Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions. Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length. The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

Describe the role of databases and database management systems in managing organizational data and information. Compose conceptual data modeling techniques to capture the information requirements. Use technology and information resources to research issues in database systems. Write clearly and concisely about relational database management systems using proper writing mechanics and technical style conventions.

You just started a summer internship with the successful management consulting firm of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. Your first day on the job was a busy one, as the following problems were presented to you.

Required: Supply the requested comments in each of the following independent situations.

1. FastQ Company, a specialist in printing, has established 500 convenience copying centers throughout the country. In order to upgrade its services, the company is considering three new models of laser copying machines for use I producing high-quality copies. These high quality copies would be added to the growing list of products offered in the FastQ shops. The selling price to the customer for each laser copy would be the same, no matter which machine is installed in the shop. The three models of laser copying machines under consideration are 1024s, a small-volume model; 1024m, a medium-volume model; and 1024G, a large-volume model. The annual rental costs and the operating costs vary with the size of each machine. The machine capacities and costs are as follows:

Copier Model 1024S 1024M 1024G
Annual capacity (copies) 100,000 350,000 800,000
Costs:
Annual machine rental 8,000 11,000 20,000
Direct Material and direct labor .02 .02 .02
Variable overhead costs .12 .07 .03

a. Calculate the volume level in copies where FastQ Company would be indifferent to acquiring either the small-volume model laser copier, 1024, or the medium-volume model laser copier, 1024M.

b. The management of FastQ Company is able to estimate the number of copies to be sold at each establishment. Present a decision rule that would enable FastQ Company to select the most profitable machine without having to make a separate cost calculation for each establishment. (Hint: To specify a decision rule, determine the volume at which FastQ would be indifferent between the medium and large copiers.)

2. Alderon Enterprises is evaluating a special order it has received for a ceramic fixture to be used in aircraft engines. Aeron has recently been operating at less than full capacity, so the firm’s management will accept the order if the price offered exceeds the costs that will be incurred in producing it. You have been asked for advice on how to determine the cost of two raw materials that would be required to produce the order.

a. The special order will require 800 gallons of endor, a highly perishable material that is purchased as needed. Alderon currently has 1,200 gallons of endor on hand, since the material is used in virtually all of the company’s products. The last time endor was purchased, Alderon paid $5.00 per gallon. However, the average price paid for the endor in stock was only $4.75. The market price for endor is quite volatile, with the current price at $5.50. If the special order is accepted, Alderon will have to place a new order next week to replace the 800 gallons of endor used. By then the price is expected to reach $5.75 per gallon.

Using the cost terminology, comment on each of the cost figures mentioned in preceding discussion. What is the real cost of endor if the special order is produced?

b. The special order also would require 1,500 kilograms of tatooine, a material not normally required in any of Alderon’s regular products. The company does happen to have 2,000 kilograms of tatooine on hand, since it formerly manufactured a ceramic product that used the material. Alderon recently received an offer of $14,000 from solo Industries for its entire supply of tatooine. However, Solo Industries is not interested in buying any quantity less than Alderon’s entire 2,000-kilogram stock. Alderon’s management is unenthusiastic about Solo’s offer, since Alderon paid $20,000 for the tatooine. Moreover, if the tatooine were purchased at today’s market price, it would cost $11.00 per kilogram. Due to the volatility of the tatooine, Alderon will need to get rid of its entire supply one way of another. If the material is not used in production or sold, Alderon will have to pay $1,000 for each 500 kilograms that is transported away and disposed of in a hazardous waste disposal site.

Using the cost terminology, comment on each of the cost figures mentioned in the
Preceding discussion. What is the real cost of tatooine to be used in the special order?

3. A local PBS station has decided to produce a TV series on state-of-the art manufacturing. The director of the TV series, Justin Tyme, is currently attempting to analyze some of the projected costs for the series. Tyme intends to take a TV production crew on location to shoot various manufacturing scenes as they occur. If the four-week series is shown in the 8:00-9:00 PM prime-time slot, the station will have to cancel a wildlife show that is currently scheduled. Management projects a 10 percent viewing audience for the wildlife how, and each 1 percent is expected to bring in donations of $10,000. In contrast, the manufacturing show is expected to be watched by 15 percent of the viewing audience. However, each 1 percent of the viewership will likely generate only $5,000 in donations. If the wildlife show is canceled, it can be sold to network television for $25,000.

Using the cost terminology, comment on each of the financial amounts mentioned in the preceding discussion. What are the relative merits of the two shows regarding the projected revenue to the station?

Focus on the following questions in your interviews:

Why are ethics and character so important in the field of law enforcement? Do the interviewees feel that police are more ethical today, or were they more ethical 10 years ago? Why do police officers become involved in misconduct? Do the interviewees feel that there is enough training offered in ethics at the police academy level? If not, why is that? Should ethics training be offered as an ongoing process for law enforcement officers? Do the interviewees feel that education and/or training in ethics would reduce incidents of police corruption? Report the results of these interviews in a paper that answers the proposed questions. Apply to your paper information that has been read and discussed in class on various ethical issues to form a synthesis of practical law enforcement ideologies. Be sure to discuss with the interviewees at least four contemporary ethical issues that they are dealing with as criminal justice practitioners. Finally, offer your own insights on the perspectives of the individuals you interviewed and materials covered in the text readings and Seminar discussions.

The paper will be a minimum of 10 double-spaced pages using a 12-point font. It must be in American Psychological Association (APA) format. this Assignment will require outside research. Use at least two credible sources beyond the text material and discuss how you evaluated the credibility of the resources used

Change Stories. In a three- to four- page paper (excluding the title and reference pages), reflect on an important professional change that you have experienced. Compare your change story to one of the stories from the beginning of Chapter 1 of the text. Answer the following questions and support your thoughts with at least two scholarly sources. In your paper you must:  Describe your change story and the one selected from Chapter 1 of the text.  Discuss the common issues and lessons present in both stories.  Identify and discuss the embedded lesson found in the four change stories of Chapter 1.  Describe how you might use the lessons as a solutions template during future change strategies. Your paper should include in-text citations and references for at least two scholarly sources, in addition to the course text, and it should be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Last year, a newly built casino had its huge, very grand opening gala, which involved numerous A-list guests, lots of gourmet food, and enough alcohol to float a boat. About 1:00 a.m. one of the top casino executives and his wife left the party in their brand new Porsche; apparently they had both had had more than their share of alcohol. The executive in the Porsche sideswiped a car and did not stop. Anyway, a policeman who was directing traffic tried to stop the Porsche, and the executive, refusing to stop, dragged the police officer about 50 feet before he was Tasered by the dragged police officer. The police officer was unharmed, but exacerbating the situation, the drunken executive’s wife started to throw her weight around by insisting she worked for City Hall, and stating she would have the policemen fired if they didn’t release her husband. Ultimately, both husband and wife ended up being booked on numerous charges being released on bail later that morning.

Question: Should the executive be fired? After all, he did embarrass the casino owner on his very special opening night. Or, are executives only responsible for what goes on inside the building? Does “what happens in Vegas stay in Vegas”? (Sorry, I couldn’t resist our very trite city motto.)
