Public Company Accounting Oversight Board One of the main features of the Sarbanes–Oxley Act (SOX) is the creation of an independent board that oversees the audits of public companies. Congress’s perception was that auditing firms were not sufficiently independent of the public companies they audited due in part to the audit firms’ receiving sizable no audit consulting fees from their audit clients. Thus, SOX created a Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). Public accounting firms that audit financial statements of public companies are required to register with PCAOB and submit to its rules. The board is charged with adopting rules establishing auditing, quality control, ethics, and independence standards. It has the power to regulate the no audit services that audit firms may perform for their clients. The PCAOB has the power to inspect periodically public accounting firms and to issue reports of the results of the reviews. The purpose of inspections is to assess the degree of compliance with the requirements of SOX, professional auditing standards, and the rules of the PCAOB and the SEC in the performance of audits and the issuance of audit reports of public companies. In addition, the PCAOB may investigate and discipline audit firms and their partners and employees. The PCAOB is not a federal agency, but a nonprofit corporation with broad regulatory power like the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), a self-regulatory organization that regulates securities brokers and dealers. It has five members, only two of which may be CPAs. No board member may receive any share of profits or compensation from a public accounting firm.  Do you think that the creation and work of the PCAOB results in greater independence of auditors of public companies If auditing of financial statements is required primarily for the protection of public investors, should not all PCAOB members be taken from the investment community that uses audited financial statements? Review the “Ethics in Action” scenario in Chapter 46 of your text. Write a paper of not more than 1,050 words in which you answer the following questions:v

Forda Lumber Company owns a 7,000-acre tract of timber purchased in 2007 at a cost of $1,300 per acre. At the time of purchase, the land was estimated to have a value of $300 per acre without the timber. Forda Lumber Company has not logged this tract since it was purchased. In 2014, Forda had the timber cruised. The cruise (appraiser) estimated that each acre contained 8,000 board feet of timber. In 2014, Forda built 10 miles of roads at a cost of $7,840 per mile. After the roads were completed, Forda logged and sold 3,500 trees containing 850,000 board feet.

Determine the cost of timber sold related to depletion for 2014. (Round answer to 0 decimal places, e.g. 1525.)

LASA 1—IKEA Analysis Report

LASA 1 IKEA Values-Based Service Analysis Report What is values-based service How can a company create value for customers and other stakeholders

Values-based service is defined as service that is firmly based on the core company values as well as social and environmental responsibility. When the core company values and the social and environmental values are in accordance with the values of customers and other stakeholders, resonance (rather than dissonance) occurs. To be successful, a values-based service business must seek resonance with its customers and other stakeholders in terms of values and avoid any suggestion of dissonance. Companies, such as IKEA, nurture and communicate values in their customer relationships.

Read the article “Values-Based Service Brands: Narratives from IKEA” by Edvardsson from the readings for this module. Using IKEA as the company in point, conduct research, using the Argosy University online library and the Internet, to better understand the “IKEA environment.”

Based on your research, write a report addressing the following points:

·         IKEA’s Marketing (1 page)

Corporate strategy begins with marketing and understanding the key elements of the marketing plan. For IKEA, describe the following elements of its marketing strategy:

o    How do IKEA’s products, services, and related attributes satisfy the wants and needs known as its value proposition?

o    How does IKEA create a well-defined market position that appeals to customer wants and needs and differentiates its offering from competitive offerings in a process known as positioning and differentiation?

·         Assess IKEA’s strategy using the criteria listed below:

o    Value Chain (1 page)

Analyze the three sources of value (economic, social, and environmental) in IKEA’s value chain.

§  Explain sources of value as they relate to the wants and needs of IKEA’s core customer.

§  Explain how IKEA’s supply chain supports its value proposition.

§  Explain how IKEA’s focus on customer value (economic, social, and environmental) is reflected in its supply chain.

o    Intangible Products (1 page)

§  Explain IKEA’s intangible products and benefits.

§  Explain how other firms employ this concept of intangibles to erect barriers to entry for competitors.

§  Explain how the concept of intangible benefits is used to increase profits.

o    Customers (1 page)

IKEA considers the customer to be a critical stakeholder. The IKEA message is directed to the majority of people and what they can afford, and its pricing is dependent on the economic values that serve a majority of its customers.

§  Explain how this approach may or may not maximize profits for IKEA.

§  Explain if this premise is at odds with supply and demand economics. Give reasons for your answer.

o    Performance Measures (1 page)

Suppose you are a vice-president of manufacturing for IKEA and are responsible for establishing operating performance measures.

§  For all of the performance factors other than quality and cost, create a set of 4–6 performance measures for evaluating your managers that integrates IKEA’s values (economic, social, and environmental) as discussed in the article written by Edvardsson.

§  For each performance measure, identify one specific process measure that demonstrates how well these values are being upheld in the manufacturing activities including suppliers of the company.

§  Recommend how you would develop the workforce to livethese values in the workplace. Suggest types of hiring, training, and performance management criteria that you will apply to the workforce.

In this assignment, you will be creating a PowerPoint presentation based on the application of the functional health assessment of a movie character. To complete this assignment, choose a movie from the following list and identify a character from the movie on whom you would like to do a health assessment. If you wish to use a character from a movie not included on the following list, get the approval of your instructor.

Films:

  1. Away From Her
  2. Lorenzo’s Oil
  3. Mask
  4. My Sister’s Keeper
  5. Philadelphia
  6. Rain Man
  7. Steel Magnolias
  8. Stepmom
  9. The Elephant Man
  10. The Mighty
  11. The Tic Code

Directions:

  1. Create a PowerPoint presentation of 10-12 slides using the template “Movie Character Presentation.”
  2. Provide an introduction and background overview of the movie character (client).
  3. Assess the client using the “Functional Health Pattern Assessment.”
  4. Based on your “observations” and thoughts, document your assessment, providing examples from the movie.
  5. Describe any observed or potential cultural, geographic, religious, ethnic, or spiritual considerations of this client.
  6. Describe two normal health patterns of the client as well as two abnormal health patterns that you observe, and provide examples.
  7. Develop an appropriate nursing diagnosis for the client based on your assessment.
  8. Identify and describe three interventions for the client: health promotion, health prevention, and maintenance.
  9. Identify at least two possible resources or community services to which you would refer this client and provide rationale for your choices.

In addition to submitting the presentation to the instructor, post your assignment to the Movie Character Health Assessment Presentation Main Forum as directed by instructor. Respond to other students’ posts in a manner that initiates or contributes to discussion. Each person should make at least three substantive comments.

While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
