Using two of our course texts, one from before and one after the midterm, produce an essay that explains how children’s literature can generate differing ideas about childhood.

To do this, you will need to select texts that differ from one another in their implications regarding what children are like, what they should read, and what children’s literature should do for them. Your paper should then include the following:

1. An overarching CLAIM that articulates and argues the distinct versions of childhood that are presented by each of your texts
2. Close reading and analysis that explains WHAT iterations you are focusing on, HOW they are constructed, and WHY this is important for understanding each narrative as a whole
3. A conclusion which discusses the importance of what you have analyzed in understanding each story, then broadening these implications to the larger functions and development of children’s literature, thinking especially about what it means that so many versions of what is appropriate for “children” exist
example of how the professor wants to claims and Evidence and Analysis from the two novels Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Giver

Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland understands the child as being problematically shaped by the education of her moment; in his portrayal of Alice Carroll suggests that the impressionability of children has subjected them to an educational system that is failing to produce knowledgeable adults. The Giver takes a similar approach to childhood, but rather than showing what is happening to children as a result of poor education, Lowry shows us a future in which educating children properly is the only hope for remedying a world of adults who have neglected the lessons that make them human. Both texts argue that children should be educated better, but Lowry’s young adult novel focuses on the future impact of failing to do so.

To Prepare:
Use the Walden Library to identify an early childhood dissertation, written within the last 5 years, that focuses on positive and caring learning environments. The dissertation you read should include in its literature review (Chapter 2) a discussion of how cultural and family influences play a part in establishing supportive learning environments through positive cultures and classroom communities.
Note:
• You may need to read/skim a number of dissertations before you find the one you choose to use as the basis for this Assignment.
• Additional information needed to complete this Assignment should be available in Chapters 1 and 5 of the dissertation you choose.
After reading the dissertation, and in particular Chapters 1, 2, and 5, create a post for your blog summarizing the following:
• The title of the dissertation
• The early childhood problem researched in the dissertation along with a brief explanation of the study—study purpose, population/participants, methodology, data sources, and conclusions
• 3 resources used by the author, and why each was relevant to the study
• How the information gleaned from this dissertation may further your work related to fostering supportive learning environments through positive classroom cultures and classroom communities
Please paste this post into your blog. Be sure to read through your peers’ blogs and note any resources that might inform your current and/or future early childhood practice and areas of possible research.

For this assignment, identify an interview/interrogation concept or concern and write an article about it. The topic is to be completely researched. The article length is dictated by the topic and publisher’s guidelines, but the article must be no less than 1200 words. (Normally 2000 words are required.) This assignment should reflect “critical thought” of your selected topic and should not be a short story on your opinion of a particular topic. Critical thinking is an attempt to train the mind in a self-reflective and self-directed manner. Its purpose is to make thinking clear, precise, accurate, relevant, consistent, and fair. It is open-minded, yet skeptical. No claim is rejected out of hand. Note that the term “critical” refers to performing a critique, which evaluates both strengths and weaknesses in a claim, position, or argument. A critical thinker rigorously applies intellectual standards to both sides of an issue, notwithstanding personal preference.
NOTE: The object of this assignment is to create a scholarly article based on extensive research. The article is not meant to be a short story on your opinion of a particular topic. Any articles that are not written in the required manner will not be accepted. Your article should not be written for a newspaper column commonly known as Letters to the Editor.

SECTION 2:
Personal Reflection
This will be similar to the midterm paper. We want to you think back over the entire semester and highlight some areas that were of interest to you.

This section should be a 3-4 page personal reflection essay on your entire semester in I101. We want you to hone in on at least 2 general topics/areas that you enjoyed (that you did not write about in your midterm paper).

INTRODUCTION:

What can we look forward to in this paper? Properly introduce the paper as a whole.

BODY:

You can do a mix-and-match of several topics that you enjoyed the most or target a particular lab or lecture that you enjoyed. You can also select a topic and extend on it to real-world examples and the like as you did in weekly lecture checks (although you MAY NOT reuse lecture check material). Your essay should be substantially based on a mix of course lectures, online lectures, and/or labs. You are welcome to use other resources that you research but this is a personal reflection on what YOU have learned in the class.

As mentioned in the “research requirements” listed at the top of this assignment, you should include at least 2 lecture citations FOR THIS SECTION in addition to the other research you have gathered – just find something to use in your essay to support your writing and what you are trying to say. Please use MLA citation (in-line too!)

Answer the following questions in this portion of your essay:

What were two topics that you really enjoyed from this semester?
What about each topic grabbed your attention?
Have you explored each topic outside of class?
If so, how? What did you do?
If not, what parts of the topic might you enjoy exploring further? How might you explore them?
What was the most challenging topic to you? Either subject matter, philosophically, ethically, etc%u0432%u0402¦?
How do you feel that this class has shaped your everyday life and how your view and use technology?
CONCLUSION:

Wrap up your paper – summarize it. This section should provide a nice end to your paper.

Write an essay [on any of the recent poems] in which you discuss some element[s] of the poem: [see chapters and elements from handout], compare two poems, or write a comparison of the poem to a short story. In order to write effectively about poetry, one needs a clear idea of what the point of writing about poetry is. The goal is to create a specific “thesis” about the poem/poems [what you believe is true], and quote from lines of the poem to support your thesis. I believe poem means this and I will show you why…

Remember, one of the best ways to write about poetry is to write a stanza-by-stanza analysis [part by part]. Write a body paragraph for each stanza in the poem—analyze it. Things to write about:

Reading, Responding, Writing: Types and subgenres of poems: the narrative, the dramatic, or the lyric poem. Go to the chapter and breakdown one of the poems to show how it fits within that genre or type. You might also consider discussing an aubade, an occasional poem, or the carpe diem poem. See the examples, maybe research a bit about that type of poem, show how a particular poem fits within a category [or study a few poems].

Chapter 11: Setting and Situation: poems are often set somewhere, in a certain context, and the speaker of the poem is undergoing some kind of dramatic “situation.” Discuss any one or more of the poems we’ve studied in relation to situation/setting. Why is it important to consider the situation? Does it have anything to do with the larger idea behind the poem?

Chapter 12: Theme and Tone: One place to start when writing about poetry is to look at any significant themes that emerge in the poetry. Does the poetry deal with themes related to love, death, sickness, inspiration, beauty? Any other concepts? What other themes show up in the poem? Are there particular historical events that are mentioned in the poem? Or ”alluded” to [allusion]? What are the most important concepts that are addressed in the poem?

Chapter 14: Visual Imagery and Figures of speech: Are there literary devices being used that affect how you read the poem? Here are some examples of commonly discussed figures of speech [see handout]: Symbols: analyze the poem: where are the symbols and what do they represent, specifically?

Symbol: an object or event that suggests something beyond its literal meaning.

Metaphor: comparison between two unlike things—using a vehicle to represent a concept.

Simile: comparison between two unlike things using “like” or “as”

Metonymy: one thing stands for something else that is closely related to it (For example, using the phrase “the crown” to refer to the king would be an example of metonymy, or “White House” for government.)

Synechdoche: a part stands in for a whole (For example, in the phrase “all hands on deck,” “hands” stands in for the people in the ship’s crew; or new “set of wheels” to refer to a car.)

Personification: a non-human thing is endowed with human characteristics.

Irony: a difference between surface meaning of the words and implications that may be drawn from them.

Allusion: reference to historical or literary events

Alliteration: the repeated use of consonant sounds [see handout]

Assonance: the repeated use of vowel sounds [see handout]

Chapter 16: Versification: See chapter and/or handout on the subject [“Patterns of Rhythm”].

Classical versus Romantic in poems. Is the poem written more in a “classical” style or is it more in the “romantic” style? See “poetry elements” handout on e-companion for more info on this. I posted tonight.

Denotation/Connotation: What is the poem literally about [denotation] and what does it seem to symbolize? [connotation]. The denotative reading of a poem looks at the actual events of the poem [a man crosses a bridge]. A connotative look at a poem looks for the symbolism [crossing the bridge represents his movement out of his past and into his future, for example].

Cultural Context: How does the poem you are looking at relate to the historical context in which it was written? These questions may take you out of the literature section of your library altogether and involve finding out about philosophy, history, religion, economics, music, or the visual arts.

Historical context: Consider the time in which the poem was written. Does this have any affect on the content [meaning] of the poem?

Biographical context: Consider using biography as a starting point and write a paper in which you discuss the poem in relation to the author’s life. What was the author like? Does the poem represent his/her life?

The paper is 3-4 pages, typed, double spaced. Good luck!

Develop a special event planning white paper that focuses on homeland security, public safety, and emergency management issues. Students will need to identify a future real-world event or a potential hazard and write a paper that contains the following components listed below. Imagine that you are conducting a planning kick-off meeting with relevant partner agencies and you have been charged with being the lead planner for the event or hazard. Make sure to include the components of an operational plan discussed in this course. At a minimum this white paper should:

-Summarizes the threat or event and assess the risk and likelihood it will impact the community for which you are planning
-Describes how vulnerable the community is to this threat/hazard
-Discusses which agencies (be specific) will be part of your planning team
-Indicate the role of each agency included in the effort
-Discusses any information needs/gaps needed to create the plan
-Presents a timeline and workplan for developing the plan

This is Florida. I teach Math for 7th Graders. So the Unit could be about any content related to Number Sense, Algebra Thinking, Geometry, one of those 3 would be fine. See the Rubric attached, because It’s needed to be followed.

You have to make an assignment which is a Unit Lesson plan (for a math teacher) including several requisites and an essay.
Review existing curriculum in your content area and identify a unit you teach that could be modified to include the new technology tools introduced in this course and/or were part of your identified necessary resources in past assignments. This assignment will be submitted at the end of Module 6.

Formalize a teaching unit.

1. Document how your unit meets CCSS and other relevant standards for your state and curriculum.
Mathematics Standards – www.corestandards.org/Math/
Standards for Mathematical Practice – www.corestandards.org/Math/Practice/

2. The unit should consist of 3-5 days of lessons that address the following:
a. Unit title
b. Concept/topic
c. Unit goals/objectives
d. Required materials
e. Introduction/anticipatory set
f. Step-by-step procedures
g. Technology integration
h. Assessment
i. Adaptations and extensions

You have to provide 3 separate documents:
– Task 2 is the lessons plans that each should include all the letters a, b, c, etc. The writing is an essay separate from the lesson plans. You have 4 pages for this task (writer about 5 days).
– The first task should be included in the lesson plans. The writing should get more than 500 words so 2 pages with double space should be sufficient.
– Include a 500-750 word justification explaining the need for this technology in your classroom and the benefits your students would get from the unit. This justification should be written as though it will be shared with administrators, guardians, and other support staff.

You can find the info about new technology in the attached sources. The 5 technology tools I chose to always talk about in my assignments are:
1.IXL
2.i-ready
3.Edmodo
4.Algebra Nation
5. Achieve 3000
Those are programs I use in the classroom and must be included on the lessons.

Not all of the resources need to be cited but the more the better.

APA is not required, but solid writing is expected.

You are assessing a real multinational corporation (MNC) by the standards of “best practice” for international management as presented in your course readings.

Describe the nature of Bombardier’s international operations in general, its specific interests in Thailand, its strategies. Research the implementation problems that it has encountered in Thailand.

Indicate, to the extent that data are available, how those problems were dealt with. Identify the general management, finance, accounting, marketing and human resources practices of Bombardier: How does local culture and geography impact strategy, organization, and operations?

The specific Issues/topics you choose for analysis will depend on the industry and country you selected. Choose the ones you think are the most important problems/issues the real MNC faces in the country you selected. Here is the topic/issue for analysis:

Strategy: Briefly analyze the strategy (industry, products, markets, core competencies). What types of entry modes did Bombardier use in Thailand? Does the mode(s) fit the Bombardier’s goals and objectives? What is the Bombardier’s competition in Thailand? Are there local partners?

?Write a 10 page with out the appendix , double spaced paper addressing your case study. Charts and graphs should be placed in an Appendix and are not part of your page count.

? Write your paper from the perspective of a consultant who has been hired by the company to provide recommendations to solve the problem(s) laid out in the case study.

? As part of this paper, you must apply multiple concepts that have been covered during this class and apply them to your chosen case study.
So for example, a recommendation based on supply chain management would be appropriate for the paper; a recommendation based on a new marketing plan would not.

? Use Times New Roman, 12-point font.
