Week 3 will help students develop an understanding of what money is, what forms money takes, how the banking system helps create money, and how the Federal Reserve controls the quantity of money. Students will learn how the quantity of money affects inflation and interest rates in the long run, and production and employment in the short run. Students will find that, in the long run, there is a strong relationship between the growth rate of money and inflation. Students will review the basic concepts macroeconomists use to study open economies and will address why a nation’s net exports must equal its net capital outflow. Students will demonstrate the relationship between the prices and quantities in the market for loanable funds and the prices and quantities in the market for foreign-currency exchange. Student will learn to analyze the impact of a variety of government policies on an economy’s exchange rate and trade balance.

Prepare: Read the Conclusion in the course text and the 2015 U.S. National Security Strategy (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..
Reflect: Effective communication is essential in conducting productive foreign affairs. One of the most important forms of communication is letting other states know national security interests. States work diligently to ensure that other states are aware of their national security interests. Conflict can sometimes erupt when national security interests are not received, are misunderstood, or are poorly communicated. As we discussed in Week Two, history is filled with examples of when states have not received, have misunderstood, or have poorly communicated vital national security interests with catastrophic results. Embedded in the challenges of effective communication is the ability to comprehend the various international relations theoretical perspectives that imbue communications of security goals, objectives, and interests. Again, incomplete awareness and understanding of this form of global political communication can lead to catastrophic results.
Write: In your assignment, complete the following:
Describe one statement in the National Security Strategy (NSS) that is based on the realist perspective.
Describe one statement in the National Security Strategy (NSS) that is based on the liberal perspective.
Describe one statement in the National Security Strategy (NSS) that is based on the identity perspective.
Explain why each statement is an example of the specified theoretical perspective.

The first draft of the attached paper recieved the following comments from my professor:

You have a great start to your paper.  However, there are several areas that can be strengthened or additional information is needed to support your thoughts.  I’ve made several comments throughout the paper.

I recommend utilizing your historical figure’s life as the natural progression for this paper.  In other words, start from their early life and progress forward through their early and later career.  Highlight key aspects of their career that are expressed in the assignment details.  Instead of using the assignment requirements as the progression of the paper, use the life of your historical figure to move the paper forward.  Discuss the requirements of the paper when they ‘appear’ in your figures life.  Your final paragraphs will be the the discussion on how this figure impacted public health.

No one gets through life alone. To some extent, we are all products of our environments. We learn from our families, schools, and cultures. Every person has to face severe challenges and conquer obstacles. How we face our challenges depends on how we are shaped by others and our strength of character.
Certain individuals in our society have played powerful roles in the evolution of prevailing norms. While we learn our culture from agents of socialization, great leaders with lofty visions lead people and nations in the direction of emancipation, economic prosperity, and political freedom. Each of the following speeches tells the story of a struggle and its leader. Each speech echoes the aspirations of thousands of people as well as their desire to change their social situations.
The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate the power of stereotypes as a shorthand communication tool. With great economy of words, each speaker uses stereotypes to frame the audience into an in-group of which he or she is the leader and the out-group on the opposing side.
Part 1: Read transcripts of famous speeches
Access the following speeches located in the AUO Library:
King, M. (2004). ‘I have a dream’. New African, (435), 67-67.

Part 2: Research other famous speeches
Explore various resources to research other famous speeches related to stereotyping and prejudice. Some suggestions are below. You may be able to find these speeches in video, audio, or text format. Try using a variety of search methods including visiting your local library, using Netflix or your local video store, or searching on YouTube. (You might also try locating the videos for the two famous speeches listed in Part 1 of this assignment.)
Malcolm X: By Any Means Necessary
Mahatma Gandhi: Nonviolence speech from the film Gandhi
Gandhi’s definition on Satyagraha
Part 3: Write a Paper
For this assignment, select one of the above speakers/speech and prepare a 1200- to 1500-word paper that answers the following questions:
Why did you select this particular speaker? Explain in around 300 words.
Which is the in-group, and what are the unifying values or the ascribed status that provides its solidarity? Explain in around 300 words.
What stereotype—prejudice, subordination, or discrimination—is the in-group challenging? Provide specific examples and explain in around 300 words.
In your view, did members of the in-group conspire to subordinate the

out-group, or was the in-group merely operating within the social structure of its time? Explain in around 300 words.
How have your attitudes toward prejudice, subordination, or discrimination been influenced by the agents of socialization, such as family, peer groups, schools, and the media? Explain in around 300 words.
Provide a minimum of 3 references and apply the correct APA standards in the formatting of text, citations, and references.

During this class, we examined a range of methods used in operations management to monitor, assess, and improve performance in health care organizations. In this final Assignment, you will review the Learning Resources made available throughout the class, and any additional external resources you may find. Then, you will synthesize your understanding of these resources, applying your knowledge to the Pediatric Hospital case study.

According to the case study, a kaizen event revealed that variability in operations performance and outcomes was the root cause of a bottleneck in scheduling MRIs. Three solutions were provided, including:

  • Modify the master schedule.
  • Streamline the insurance authorization process.
  • Implement standardized work instructions.

To prepare for this Assignment:

Read the Pediatric Hospital in Tough Market Pegs Growth to Lean Process Improvement case study by Tonya Vinas, located in the Learning Resources. Review the key metrics and current state of the organization before the interventions were conducted.

The Assignment:

In a 6- to 7-page report to the board of directors (not including title page or references):

  1. Assess operations requirements and resources for Pediatric Hospital. Describe what is working and what is not working.
  2. Conduct a quantitative and qualitative benchmark literature review and scan of operations best practices (from the health care industry or outside the health care industry) and provide and evaluate an example of an initiative that a high-reliability health care organization has implemented, and indicate how Pediatric Hospital can implement that initiative.
  3. Evaluate Pediatric Hospital’s readiness for the transition of health care systems from a volume- to value-based delivery system. Using data provided in this case, provide relevant and practical recommendations to improve its readiness and how it might affect the implementation of the initiative.
  4. Analyze the operational implications of 2–3 current health care reforms and mandates that might affect the implementation of the initiative.
  5. Consider current and future trends and forces in operations management excellence and assess how these can help this Pediatric Hospital and other similar health care organizations to become a sustainable model for high-reliability organization.

Substance abuse assessments have very different purposes for different populations. For instance, an assessment for treatment of victims will look different from a court-mandated assessment relating to criminal behavior. For another example, an assessment for an adolescent would likely emphasize peer influence more so than it would for an adult. These demographic factors significantly influence the assessment as it relates to treatment planning or other recommendations.

Use the module readings and the Argosy University online library resources to research types of substance abuse assessments for different demographics.

Select three substance abuse assessments for use in this assignment. Your choices should represent three different age populations such as the elderly, adults, adolescents, or children.

Review the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) patient placement criteria for the treatment of substance-related disorders at the following:

Complete the following:

  1. Describe the ASAM patient placement criteria for the treatment of substance-related disorders.
  2. Describe the three selected types of substance abuse assessments that you might use. Be sure that your choices represent three different age populations such as the elderly, adults, adolescents, or children.
  3. Compare and contrast the information being collected in each of the three assessments and describe the areas of concern. Ask, for example, does it include client presentation and functioning, current use and history, high-risk behavior, first exposure, consequences of addiction, culture, life skills, work, vocation, education, health, recreation, or spirituality? Present the comparison of the three types of substance abuse assessments in a table.
  4. Explain special considerations, including ethical issues, which would apply to the different populations selected.
  5. Evaluate the importance of having assessment tools for clients in each developmental life stage.

Create an 8–10 slide PowerPoint presentation to present your findings to other substance abuse counselors. Include the table comparing the three types of substance abuse assessments. Apply APA standards to citation of sources in your slides. Use the speaker notes in the slide show to further discuss the topics on each slide. In addition, make sure you have a title slide and a slide with references (in APA format).

Interview a Human Service Professional

In this assignment, you will explore the extent of training and education a chosen health care provider has in listening skills. You can compare your findings with those of your classmates to see the differences that may exist between different professional groups. You may be surprised by the results that you find.

Tasks:

For this assignment, you are to conduct a thirty-minute interview (an ideal interview would be in person or via the telephone, but an e-mail or chat-based interview is also acceptable) with a human service professional (for example, a social worker, community-organizational professional, or a counselor). The focus of the interview should be on the person’s training and education in listening skills. Ask questions to determine whether he or she has had formal training in listening as well as what specific strategies he or she uses to effectively listen to patients or clients.

In addition to your interview, use your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet to conduct research on how listening skills impact and are critical to a client-patient relationship.

Submission Details:

  • By Week 2, Day 7, prepare a 2 1/2-3 page paper. Your response should rely upon at least two sources from professional literature. This may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, or .gov). Write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources (i.e., APA format); and use accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read the webpage for the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), the  Harvey, Luiselli, & Wong, (2009) article, and review the APA’s Ethical principles of psychologists and code of conduct (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. required for this week.

In your initial post:

  • Applied behavior analysis is a rapidly growing area of learning psychology. Based on the information in the required web page and article, describe what you think it would be like to be an applied behavior analyst is a school setting.
  • Analyze and describe how the APA’s Ethical principles of psychologists and code of conduct (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. might affect the implementation of behavior modification principles.
  • Examine the behavioral analysis approach to personality psychology and discuss whether personality shapes behavior or behavior shapes personality. Use evidence from the resources to support your statements.
  • Evaluate the cultural implications of addressing and treating mental health issues in standardized school settings.
  • Describe the benefits this type of approach might have for students.
