Chapter 6 of the Mooz text provides an algorithm for identifying types of decisions and provides a road map for matching decision models to the characteristics needed when using each model.

Pick a critical decision from your own life and one of the decision models in chapter 7 or 8 (e.g., Fact Based in chapter 7) and complete the road map suggested for that model. Completing the road map requires that you identify the name of the specific method that should be used, for example, Fact based=>Rank Sums Process. For the characteristics you need to identify both the type of characteristics (e.g. Criteria ranking sums) and the specifics (e.g. listing the criterion for each alternative and the resulting sums). (An example for Fact Based models can be found in figures 7.1-7.4.) give a detailed summary of your results.

Description

| Backgrounder |

Individual Assignment

What: Background research on your client that will guide your work throughout the quarter

When: Due Wednesday, April 12 at 11:59 p.m.

Where: Submit as a Word document to Canvas

Why:

To do appropriate and focused background research on your client.

To gain an understanding of the broader landscape in which your client is working.

To learn what social media channels your client is using and how

To build a strong foundation for subsequent work in this course.

What to do:

Thoroughly research your client using the materials it has provided and as many external sources as necessary.

Think critically about the information you find, where you found it and whether it is credible.

Analyze each source for credibility. Use this website as a guide.

Do all the work necessary to fill out the Backgrounder TemplatePreview the documentView in a new window.

Use endnotes to cite your sources (yes, even your social media sources). Here (Links to an external site.) is a guide to inserting endnotes.

Your endnotes should be written in APA format. Label whether the source was internal (produced by your client, about your client) or external (produced by someone else about your client or about the broader landscape in which it is working)

Here is a guide to APA style.

Here (Links to an external site.) is a website that makes APA citations for you.

Submit your assignment to Canvas using the following naming convention:

LastNameFirstName_Backgrounder.doc.

Tips:

Make sure your Big Picture section is about the broader social issue, NOT simply more information about your client.

Make sure your research sources are strong and reliable. You will likely need to go beyond a quick Google search. The best information is not always the first information to appear, and we want to see that you know the difference.

Make sure your information comes from a variety of internal and external sources. YouвЂTMll need to use information your client puts out about itself, information others put out about your client and information about its competitors and the broader social situation within which it operates.

Delve deeper into your research by finding original sources. For example, a cursory search might uncover a newspaper article that quoted an expert or referenced a report. Find that expert or that report.

Think hard about what makes a source credible. Believing that something is credible because “it came from the government,вЂк or because “the New York Times is a reputable news sourceвЂк does not demonstrate critical thinking.

Do not copy/paste information from a website into your assignment, even if you put it in direct quotes and even if you change a few words. This constitutes plagiarism and will be penalized accordingly. Instead, take the time to process the information and convey it in your own words.

DonвЂTMt get too hung up on formatting your endnotes. As long as you use endnotes and cite in APA style, youвЂTMre fine. Focus instead on the content of your assignment.

Examples of themes:

Incarceration rates for black men

Mortality rates for black men

Impacts on marital status and related income and poverty measures

Links between Ferguson, MO missing black men and elevated arrest rates

Write a thoughtful response post to at least one other studentвЂTMs work. Note: “Sam, I agree with what you wrote,вЂк or “Good job Sarah, nice post,вЂк will not receive points. A response that will receive points might look like this:

“Sam, you made an interesting point about the blurry line between talking about poverty and talking about race. I agree that this is confusing. Using my interpretation of one of the articles from this week, I wonder if the reason this line is so blurry is because of the history that has associated people of color with poverty. For example, laws that would forbid a person of color to own a business greatly restricted the way one could make a living and probably had a lot to do with why that line is blurry today.вЂк

Description

Hi dear, I need help with my case study, so within 1,500 words – typically about three pages – you will use the case preparation questions that already attached for that case to diagnose some of the key issues in the case as well as prepare your own set of recommendations. You may add additional information with an appendices. These are briefings to management or to the Board of Directors as specified in the assignment. Therefore, do not repeat the facts in the case, but synthesize them to show you understand the issue being addressed. Demonstrate that your recommendations “fitвЂк the companyвЂTMs capabilities or show how your recommendations will augment or challenge the existing capabilities of the company in all areas.

Four aspects of strong business writing are considered in grading these case briefings and all other class written deliverables:

1.The strength of your analysis and your ability to draw out the implications of the situation.

2.The ability to substantiate your positions with facts from the case.

3.The realism of recommendations and an ability to develop solutions that can be implemented.

4.The clarity of your writing and your ability to use the strong business writing conventions presented in BA

I attached 4 files for the instructions.

1-            The case study.

2-            Case Analysis Template

3-            Case Rubric

4-            Strategic Brief Example – Umpqua Bank

So please follow the same format of the example and use the case analysis template to write the assignment.

  1. Read and digest “Introduction to Writing Analytical Essays” by William Marvin. For further guidance, check out Mr. Marvin’s recommendations in that article, especially the short book by Richard Wingell. Also, check these resourses:
  2. Douglass Green’s The Six-Step Method of Analysis, sections 6H and 6I in his “form in tonal music”.

b.The document A Strategy for Analyzing Tonal Compositions.

  1. Analyze the following piece:

Beethoven, Piano Sonata in C minor, Op. 10, No 1, I

  1. Prepare a prose (sentences, paragraphs) analysis of your selection that includes:
  2. A BRIEF introduction to the peice (e.g.: how many movements total; where the work falls in the composer’s life work; anything unusual about the whole work).
  3. A survey of the election’s formal organization, including its main key areas and tonal relationships.
  4. A more detailed commentary of each of the selection’s sections, emphasizing phrase, tonal, format, rhythmic and motivic organization and relationships.

This prose section will likely be not less than FIVE full pages, and generally need not be more than seven full pages. Use 10 point type, double-spaced, with margins notexceeding 1″. As this document is the equivalent of a Term Paper, DO include a separate title page (BUT IT IS NOT PART OF THE PAGE COUNT ABOVE), and make sure the language (writing style) you use is suitable for a Term Paper (as opposed to an informal discussion).

  1. Prepare a non-prose representation of the selection.
  2. This section is on a separate, single page (not included in the page count above), formatted in such a way as to maximize the information’s presentation.
  3. You may use a horizontal graph (typically with one or more horizontal rules), or a vertical list.
  4. Identify the selection’s background and middle-ground elements, and as man foreground elements as you 1) find relevant and 2) can fit on the page without crowding the space.

You will evaluate this medical case in the final exam. Pay attention and take notes on how they approach this case using the threeВ majorВ ethical theories you have already learned in this class, as you will be asked to apply one of these ethical approaches in the essay question in the final exam.Essay

Judge the medical case studied in class during Week 7 in the Discussion Board. In the video, philosophers applied the three major ethical principles you learned in this class: Kant’s Categorical Imperative, Utilitarianism, and Virtue Ethics. In a five paragraph essay, apply ONE ethical theory to decide the moral course of action in the medical case of the premature twins studied in class. Apply the ethical theory in each paragraph to support your arguments throughout the entire essay. Not using the ethical theory results in an automatic zero. Using more than one ethical theory results in an automatic zero. (50 points) You have 4 hours to complete this exam. You only have ONE attempt to complete this exam.
