You will apply evidence-based research findings, discovered from your clinical question, and then integrate those to support your suggested change in nursing practice.

Directions:

1.Identify your refined PICOT question.

In CHF patients discharged from the hospital (P), how does video discharge instructions (I) compared to just written and verbal discharge instructions (C) affect patient outcomes regarding re-admissions to the hospital (O) within 30 days after discharge (T)?

Description

Using the knowledge and insights gained from the textbook and other reliable sources answer the following.

1.In your own words, define quantitative research and provide two examples of quantitative designs with a brief explanation of each design.

2.Identify a potential quantitative research study that is important to nursing and describe which design you would use for this study, why you would use that design, and how the information generated from the study could be applied in nursing practice.

3.Reflect as to the value of quantitative research adding to the science, knowledge, and practice of nursing.

Class: The objective of this DB is to make sure you understand the basic types of quantitative research designs – choose 2 designs and explain them briefly for your peers.

Then I want you to be creative and develop your own idea for a quantitative research study (it is hypothetical). Why would you want to conduct this study, what design would you use and why, and what would you hope to answer in the realm of nursing?

Finally end with your new found understanding of this type of research design.

Example for step 2: Nursing simulation is an new and important aspect of training for undergraduate nursing students. Finding clinical space within the hospital settings is becoming more difficult to accomplish as schools compete for space and hospitals exert tighter controls. Can simulation really replace traditional clinical and have the same outcomes? In order to research this question I would create a randomized controlled trial. This design would allow me the opportunity to have one group of students complete clinical with 100% of their time in simulation. A second group would have 50% simulation and 50% traditional clinical. The control group would have 100% traditional clinical. Students would be randomly assigned to one of the 3 groups. All student would be from the same cohort. This design would allow me to compare the clinical outcomes to see if there are any differences between the groups. The results of the study would be used to either support the use or more simulation for clinical or show that clinical must occur in traditional settings.

Have fun creating your own quantitative study!! Don’t forget your 3 citations beyond the textbook!!

Order instructions:

You will write a minimum of 800 words critical response to a conflict, problem or theme explored in one of the Episodes of Black Mirror. I think one of the episodes that are more meaningful and easy-to-write about is “White Bear”.

“White Bear” begins as a dystopian horror reminiscent of 28 Days Later, but where it ends up is far more disturbing. It’s a story about our social appetite for punishment, a recurring theme in the worlds of Black Mirror.

This is an “argumentative essay,” meaning that you are supposed to have a “debatable” thesis statement that you will prove through evidence using your chosen episode and at least one scholarly source. NOTE: This is not supposed to be a summary of what happens; it is an analysis of a scene, character, theme, symbol, or allegory as a means to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between Identity, information technology, and society. Your paper needs to be 80% analysis.

This discussion is based on a case study. As in all case studies, review the facts of the case and consider the various steps of the nursing process in order to address the critical thinking questions.

At a staff meeting in the community health center there is extensive discussion about how to implement the Affordable Care Act in the community. The nurses are having a lot of difficulty understanding how healthcare politics and policy are developed when it appears that not all public health stakeholders are adequately considered.

  1. Developing and adopting health care policies is a process. Identify four factors with supporting rationales that must be addressed in the policy-making process within public health.
  2. Identify four population health concerns with supporting rationales that should be addressed when health policies are formulated.
  3. Identify four nurse-led strategies with supporting rationale to improve population and community health.

3.Cooperrider and Dutton (1999)

4.Eitzen and Zinn (2012) – Chapter 4

In this assignment you will apply what you have learned throughout this course to develop an analysis of a global organization that is relevant to your academic and professional interests (Course Outcome #5). The organization you select should play a critical role in defining, creating, or solving a global issue. You may select an organization in any sector (public, private, nonprofit, government) as your focus. However, you must be able to demonstrate the community and global (glocal) context of the organization, the issues that it addresses, and its activities. Your paper should represent the development of your ideas throughout the term and should fully assess, analyze, and engage with both the promising and challenging aspects of the organization’s global and community context. You should integrate course concepts, ideas from class discussions, and your individual writing assignments to construct your paper. You will also find 8-10 outside sources (e.g. news articles, blogs, websites, journal articles) to build research skills and expand your in-class work.

You should do the following in your paper:

Clearly describe a global organization including its mission, history, structure, local and global features, and the global issue it addresses. The information presented should be sufficient to ground your application of theory and use of key concepts.

Apply at least one theoretical perspective to explain how the organization is situated in its environment. The readings introduce a variety of theoretical perspectives. You should select a perspective that is helpful in understanding your particular organization and resonates with your interests. You may integrate this point with your description of the organization.

Describe the internal (e.g. leadership, structure, partnerships/collaboration, boundary management, technology) and external (e.g. culture, politics, social movements) pressures for change affecting the organization. These areas approximate the topics of the weekly modules. You should develop your ideas for these sections of the paper in your weekly discussions and writing assignments.

Apply a theory of organization/organizational change that sheds light on the organization’s current and/or past changes or actions. Alternatively, you may use the theory to suggest future actions or changes. To better position your argument you can take the perspective of an internal change agent, organizational leader, or organizational consultant. To get started please carefully review the resources provided in the Week 2 module. However, you will be introduced to organizational and management theories throughout the readings.

The bulk of your paper should focus on points #3 and #4. Essays should be 10-12 pages long (excluding references, abstract, and cover page) and formatted using APA style. The paper is worth 100 points (15% of your grade) and it will be due on Friday, March 17, 2017 by 11:59pm.

To receive full credit for this assignment you must do the following:

Consider the population in which the solution is intended, the staff that will participate, and the key contributors that must provide approval and/or support for your project to be implemented. These stakeholders are considered your audience.

Develop an implementation plan (1,500-2,000 words) using the “Topic 3: Checklist” resource. The elements that should be included in your plan are listed below:

1.Method of obtaining necessary approval(s) and securing support from your organization’s leadership and fellow staff.

2.Description of current problem, issue, or deficit requiring a change. Hint: If you are proposing a change in current policy, process, or procedure(s) when delivering patient care, describe first the current policy, process, or procedure as a baseline for comparison.

3.Detailed explanation of proposed solution (new policy, process, procedure, or education to address the problem/deficit).

4.Rationale for selecting proposed solution.

5.Evidence from your Review of Literature in Topic 2 to support your proposed solution and reason for change.

6.Description of implementation logistics (When and how will the change be integrated into the current organizational structure, culture, and workflow? Who will be responsible for initiating the change, educating staff, and overseeing the implementation process?)

7.Resources required for implementation: staff; educational materials (pamphlets, handouts, posters, and PowerPoint presentations); assessment tools (questionnaires, surveys, pre- and post-tests to assess knowledge of participants at baseline and after intervention); technology (technology or software needs); funds (cost of educating staff, printing or producing educational materials, gathering and analyzing data before, during, and following implementation), and staff to initiate, oversee, and evaluate change.
