Networks in International Politics, Chapters 1-2
2- Wapner, Paul. 1995. “Politics beyond the State: Environmental Activism and World

Healing Hands Hospital is an acute care community hospital that serves a suburban community outside of a large city with two competing large academic medical centers. Both Healing Hands Hospital and the academic medical centers have a long history of service to the region, but their business and fundamental practices are different. Your manager, Ms. Woods, Healing Hands’ Chief Operating Officer, is part of the Task Force working on the strategic plan for the hospital and needs to understand the fundamental practices of these academic medical centers.

You have been asked to research the differences between the services that your organization offers and those of at least one of these academic medical centers. For the purposes of this assignment, use the Web to research community hospitals and academic medical centers and select one community hospital and one academic medical center located in the same city or area to represent these two healthcare organizations for the purpose of working on this assignment. You will use the information that you find about these two healthcare organizations for the Individual Project assignments in the remaining weeks of the course culminating in your final project in Week 5. Use the acute-care community hospital to represent Healing Hands Hospital. This link provides a list of example community hospitals. Choose one and then find an academic medical center located in the same geographic region. Review the Web information on these facilities to complete this assignment.

1. Describe the similarities and differences of these organizations in terms of the following:

Mission
Goals
Objectives
Management structure
Reimbursement models
Staffing
Policies
Procedures
Research and clinical trials
2. Based on your analysis of the data that you present, provide your opinion on what would be the main areas of concern if the two organizations were to merge and how they could be overcome.

You may include a table for the comparison data, but you must describe your evaluation of where there are and are not similarities between the two healthcare organizations and your opinion.

Be sure to document your references using APA format. This includes the websites for the two hospitals that you are using for the assignment.

This paper will be a part of the final project to be submitted in Unit 4 and 5. Label this week’s paper as “Report on the Future of Healing Hands” and this section will become Section 2 of the final assignment “Comparison of Healing Hands Hospital to Competitor in the Community”.

BAM 315 Unit 2 Essay

Writing Assignment for Unit Two
• Include your name, student number, course number, course title and unit number with your writing assignment.
• Begin each writing assignment by identifying the question number you are answering followed by the actual question itself (in bold type).
• Use a standard essay format for responses to all questions (i.e., an introduction, middle paragraphs and conclusion).
• Responses must be typed double-spaced, using a standard font (i.e. Times New Roman) and 12 point type size.
Word count is NOT one of the criteria that is used in assigning points to writing assignments. However, students who are successful in earning the maximum number of points tend to submit writing assignments that fall in the following ranges:
Undergraduate courses: 350 – 500 words or 1 – 2 pages. Graduate courses: 500 – 750 words or 2 – 3 pages. Doctoral courses: 750 – 1000 words or 4 – 5 pages.
Plagiarism
All work must be free of any form of plagiarism. Put written answers into your own words. Do not simply cut and paste your answers from the Internet and do not copy your answers from the textbook. Be sure to refer to the course syllabus for more details on plagiarism and proper citation styles.
Please answer the following:
Question #1
Explain organizational change and briefly discuss the three types of change.

Player’s Manual for The Business Strategy Game

After you have read the Player’s Manual for The Business Strategy Game, you and your co-managers should come up with brief 2- or 3-paragraph answers to the following three questions prior to entering your first set of decisions. While your answers to the first of the three questions can be developed from reading the Player’s Manual, the second and third questions will require a collaborative discussion among the members of your company’s management team about how you intend to manage the company you have been assigned to run.
1. Where are we now? (Is your company in a good, average, or weak competitive position vis-à-vis rival companies? Does your company appear to be in sound financial condition? What problems does your company have that need to be addressed?)
2. Where do we want to go? (What goals do you have for your company? How fast do you want to grow the company’s business? By how much would you like to increase total profits of the company by the end of the simulation exercise? What kinds of performance outcomes will signal that you and your co-managers are managing your athletic footwear company in a successful manner?)
3. How are we going to get there? (What basic strategic and competitive approach do you think makes the most sense to pursue? What are the 3-4 key elements of the strategy that you and your co-managers intend to employ? What kind of competitive advantage over rivals do you intend to try to build?)

Smart gird communications

Smart grid is a new concept to design and operate power generation, transmission, distribution and other related systems in an integrated environment with emerging services. There are a number of challenges in smart grid systems. One of the challenges is low-latency communications for real-time smart grid applications in wide area networks (WANs) such as wide area control, neighbourhood area networks (NANs) such as real-time demand response, and home area networks (HANs) such as home energy scheduling.

The existing standards for smart grid communications are based on IP networks, which were not designed for real-time control systems and thus do not provide real-time performance guarantee. New network protocols and technologies need to be developed in WANs, NANs, and HANs to complement existing smart grid network technologies to enable real-time communications for real-time QoS performance.

We have collaborations with our university power engineering discipline, and have also established a big data lab for experimental HPC and networks at the university, facillitating excellent research in this area.

Research activities

We aim to develop new network architecture, protocols and technologies for WANs, NANs, and HANs to complement existing smart grid network technologies. This will enable real-time communications for smart grid applications with low-latency requirement.

Outcomes

Expected outcomes include new network architecture, protocols and technologies for real-time smart grid communications.

Skills and experience

·         Skills in computer networks are essential.

·         Some experience in computer networks and communications is desirable.

·         A basic understanding of power grid will be helpful but not essential.
