“Developing a Strategic Plan” Please respond to the following:

  • Examine the strategic planning process. Imagine that your organization is planning to build a pediatric clinic in your local community. Review the pediatric clinics in your neighborhood.
  • Determine one external factor and one internal factor that you should consider in the strategic planning of your clinic.
  • Determine three reasons why strategic plans fail. Recommend a strategy to overcome each of the reasons you identified and include concepts from the weekly reading in the textbook or from peer-reviewed journal articles.

“Conducting a Competitor Analysis” Please respond to the following:

  • From the e-Activity, analyze Michael Porter’s technique for a competitive analysis.
  • Determine one factor for each of Porter’s five forces of an environmental analysis that apply to a pediatric walk-in clinic.  Include concepts from the weekly reading in the textbook or from peer-reviewed journal articles.

E-ACTIVITY

Use the Internet to research a health care organization in your community. Focus on Michael Porter’s five forces of an environmental analysis. Be prepared to discuss.

PESTLE Analysis PowerPoint

Due Week 2 and worth 300 points

A PESTLE Analysis identifies political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental factors. Review PESTLE Analysis at the following https://www.groupmap.com/map-templates/pestle-analysis

The U.S. health care system costs $3.3 trillion last year and delivered too little value (Blumenthal, 2017). For most Americans, health care is not only expensive but also fragmented, inconvenient, and physically inaccessible.  Aetna, CVS, UnitedHealth Group and DaVita are health care stakeholders who are engaging in mergers and acquisitions to produce a higher quality product.  Review the article “Is M&A the Cure for a Failing Health Care System?” at https://hbr.org/2017/12/is-ma-the-cure-for-a-failing-health-care-system in Harvard Business Review.

Congratulations; you have been selected as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a local hospital.  Within six months of taking the job, you learn your health care organization is considering a merger.  Your first task is to conduct a PESTLE Analysis.  Use critical thinking skills and metacognition to research current events in the macro environment of the local hospital in your area.  Your hospital selection will be the same hospital used throughout this course.  Review the website information on your hospital selection and prepare a 10-slide Microsoft PowerPoint narrative using a PESTLE Analysis

Your 10-slide PESTLE PowerPoint should follow this format:

  1. Slide 1: Cover Page a. Include the title of your paper, your name, the course number and course title, your professor’s name, the university’s name, and the date.
  2. Slide 2: Background / Executive Summary a. Describe the details of the situation. Use bullets with short sentences. The title of these slides should be Executive Summary.
  3. Slide 3: Thesis Statement a. Identify the focus of your research. The title of this slide should be Thesis Statement.
  4. Slides 4-9: Supporta. Support your Thesis Statement following the SESC formula: State, Explain, Support, and Conclude.  (Use Sublevel 1 and 2 Headings to provide coherence and organization. An overview of using the Sublevel 1 and Sublevel 2 headings is provided in the following video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr185y-fAks. Provide in-text citations using the format in the American Psychological Association (APA) Manual 2010, 6th Edition.)
  5. Slide 10: References
    1. Locate peer reviewed journal articles to support your responses.  For example, identify clinical quality that does not compare to other hospitals, see https://www.medicare.gov/hospitalcompare/search.html. Use APA format for your references. (To help you with APA in-text citations and your Reference list, some students use Citation Machine at http://www.citationmachine.net.)

Review the Case Study “Are Our Customer Liaisons Helping or Hurting,” published by Harvard Business Review at https://hbr.org/2017/10/case-study-are-our-customer-liaisons-helping-or-hurting

Use the health care organization that you selected previously. You are the administrator and you’ve established a new liaison position called the Patient Care Executive (PCE).  The concept was meant to be a win-win:  patients and their families would get a better, more personalized hospital experience, while doctors could spend less time managing patients and more time practicing medicine.  Customer satisfaction scores, patient retention, and referrals are all up, but the doctors have been complaining that the PCEs are incompetent and intrusive.  The CEO has gotten wind that the PCEs are a factor in the hospital’s high doctor turnover and is trying to decide whether to get rid of the role altogether.

Your first step in evaluating the position of your organization will be conducting an environmental analysis. The purpose of this is to determine your organization’s ability to continue to provide quality care and remain financially solvent in the face of these challenges.

Write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you:

  1. Determine two (2) specific forces in the external environment that will have the most impact on your organization. Provide a rationale for your decision.
  2. Determine two (2) specific internal factors that the organization’s leaders need to consider in preparing for the future of health care and the future of the organization. Provide a rationale for your decision
  3. Discuss the impact of both the identified internal and external forces on the organization’s ability to develop a competitive strategy.
  4. Recommend one (1) strategy that involves the PCEs and maintaining the momentum of the strategic plan of this new concept.
  5. Use at least three (3) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of your paper, your name, the course number and course title, your professor’s name, the university’s name, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Differentiate between strategic management, strategic thinking, strategic planning, and managing strategic momentum.
  • Analyze the significance of the external environment’s impact on health care organizations.
  • Examine the role of internal environmental analysis in identifying the basis for sustained competitive advantage.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in the strategic management of health care organizations.
  • Write clearly and concisely about strategic management of health care organizations using proper writing mechanics.

QUESTION No 1  A 17-year-old male presents with a complaint of a red, itchy rash over his torso and back x 1 week, which is keeping him up at night. He denies sick exposures or a recent visit to wooded areas. He denies other symptoms, significant history, or allergies.

1-In order of importance, describe three (3) questions that you would like to ask this patient and give a brief explanation of why?

2- From the information provided, list your differential diagnoses in the order of “most likely” to “possible but unlikely.”

QUESTION No 2

An 89-year-old female complains of a “stabbing chest pain” and points to the area just below her scapula at the right mid-clavicular line. She states that she had an upper respiratory infection last week that “just seems to hang on.” She has no other complaints.

1- In order of importance, describe three (3) questions that you would like to ask this patient and give a brief explanation of why.

2- Which lab or imaging tests would you order for this patient? Why?

Write a justification for capital purchase (1,000-1,200 words) to your vice president as to why the purchase would be a good investment for the hospital. Include a one-page executive summary for your proposal. The paper should include the operating costs you took into consideration, what facility considerations are involved regarding this new piece of equipment, and future benefits to the organization of this piece of equipment.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the GCU Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

In the assignment this week you will be placing yourself in the role of a departmental manager who is seeking to justify the purchase of a large capital item. Here is some help for the assignment:-

Write a justification for capital purchase (1,000-1,200 words) to your vice president as to why the purchase would be a good investment for the hospital.

Do not write the justification with the personal we and I, but rather write on behalf of the department. Use this department instead of “we and I”. Since in the real world of a health care organization, you are writing the justification for the department.

Include a one-page executive summary for your proposal.

This provides the background on the equipment and why it is needed. You can find this background at a website for a company that provides large equipment for a hospital. For example, Siemens, and here is there link: –

http://usa.healthcare.siemens.com/accessories

The paper should include the operating costs you took into consideration, what facility considerations are involved regarding this new piece of equipment, and future benefits to the organization of this piece of equipment.

In this section, what I am looking for is why this equipment is needed. For example, the old equipment is outdated, or in need of repair. It may be causing concerns with quality of care. So, the initial outlay of costs may be expensive, but if services are improved and the number of patients are seen over the next few years, the initial cost might be recouped. You may be able to find out what the return of investment is from the website information, or if you are working for a hospital, the supply department may know. I am more looking for your narrative than actual numbers. Consider other costs like maintenance, repair, supplies, space, staffing and education and training that will need to be factored into your operating costs in your justification to the Vice President.

The key with this paper is that you understand that in health care large purchases are a necessity and are linked to programs, services and quality of care. Any new services will inevitably require new equipment, which could be a combination of clinical equipment and administrative equipment. Replacement equipment is also very important, so that quality and safety is maintained always. However, each of these items need to be planned for and requested.

Explore and explain each of the following items in your initial response:

1.  Explain the intelligence cycle as it is applicable to Intelligence Led Policing.

2.  How would you apply the intelligence cycle to a criminal behavior of your choice.

Objectives:

Instructions: You must utilize APA 6th edition format in your response. Additionally you need to include at least one (1) referenced source. All forum responses need to be 500 words and include two (2) substantive feedback posts to your peers of 250 words.
