Your task is to create an organizer to assist you in writing your Journalistic Profile in Week 13. 

To do so, you will be using ReadWriteThink’s Printing Press. So, once you have chosen a leaderin your field and gathered your research, follow these steps:

Chapter 1: Plato’s Allegory of the Cave 

1. What are some things the allegory suggests about the process of enlightenment or education?(100 words min.)

2. The allegory presupposes that there is a distinction between appearances and reality. Do you agree? Why or why not?(100 words min.)

3. What sometimes happens to people when the illusion is shattered and reality is revealed? Can you give an example from your own or a friend’s experience?(100 words min.)

Chapter 6: Thomas Hobbes

4. Do you think that being self-interested is a bad thing? If so, why? If not, why not?(100 words min.)

5. Compare Christ’s Golden Rule with Hobbes’ Golden Rule. Which do you think is more effective in getting people to obey the laws, and why?(100 words min.)

6. Do you agree with Hobbes that our natural condition is one of lawlessness and violence? How do you think you would behave if you knew you could get away with whatever you wanted to? Do we only obey the laws out of fear of punishment?(100 words min.)

Chapter 7: Nietzsche

7. If Nietzsche were alive today, would he describe the contemporary United States as being governed by master morality or slave morality? Explain, and be specific.(100 words min.)

8. Do you agree with Nietzsche’s claim that “every elevation of the type ‘man’ has hitherto been the work of an aristocratic society and so it will always be”? Why or why not?(100 words min.)

Chapter 8: Ortega y Gasset

9. Do you agree with Ortega’s claim that we are (as of 1929, when he wrote The Revolt of the Masses) living in what he calls ahyperdemocracy? Explain.(100 words min.)

You’ve learned that it was important for African-Americans to attempt to retain their African musical traditions in America. In order to do so, they had to compromise, finding ways to blend their musical practices with European values regarding music, religion, and society.

You’ve also learned about the incredible hardships Africans faced traveling against their will to America. Unquestionably their journey was frightening beyond belief. Because they were not allowed to take possessions with them, how important do you think their musical traditions became to them on their journey? What did their music mean to them in a foreign land?

Have you ever been in an unfamiliar, frightening, or disappointing situation? Did you perhaps seek familiar music for comfort? Did music help you through those moments? Briefly describe a situation in which you may have sought music as an antidote to disappointment, or as magic to enhance a particular moment. What music did you choose? Does that that particular music still have a similar affect when you hear it now?

Instructions: Your paper should be a minimum of 2 paragraphs, double-spaced, written in 12 pt font, and must conform to MLA guidelines. Do not use extra spaces between paragraphs.

Chapter Nine: Mutual-Help Groups: A Strengths Perspective

Alchohol Anonymous (AA) is viewed by some as a “narrative  and reflective community”. It has been hailed as best practice and supported by the government.  Yet, it has also been critiqued for poor success rates and its promotion of God and religious views.

   Read the case study on p. 102 . Then view the YouTube video, “Sheryl Sandberg Is One of the Most Dangerous, Damaging Executives.”  Answer the case questions from 1-4.  This should be a 3-page, double spaced paper. Answer questions 5-7 in another 3-page double spaced paper. Be sure to include information from the text, case study and  video. Your opinion of the video should be clearly stated, but without the use of the first person. Each case study should be 3 pages, double-spaced.. You should have a title page and a reference page. The title page should include your name and be titled Assignment 7702. Submit your paper in Microsoft Word format via the dropbox by the deadline identified above. The composition should follow conventions of standard American English appropriate for a professional and scholarly audience using APA format (6th Ed.). Do not exceed the 3-page limit and do not use personal pronouns, i.e first-person narration. All work should be in the third person. Papers that exceed page limit and that use the first person will not be accepted. Submit your paper in Microsoft Word format via the dropbox by the deadline identified above.
