In this forum, we will explore topics related to this week’s lesson.  Our nutrient needs change as we age and this week you learned about nutrition during the adult years; the phase of the lifecycle in which we spend the most years.

Alcohol is nutrient poor, calorie-rich beverage many people drink.  The CDC reports that more than 3/4ths of Americans have consumed at least one alcoholic beverage sometime in their life.

Initial Post: For your initial forum post, pick one of the following topics.

Topic 1:  Compare and contrast the healthy benefits of drinking alcohol with the negative effects.  Are there any benefits?

Topic 2:  Many people believe there is a “fountain of youth” that can stop the aging process, allowing youth to remain. Is there a particular product that is the fountain of youth or a combination of diet and lifestyle?

Topic 3: Discuss the dietary changes needed to slow development or prevent cancer or heart disease.  Find one reputable website related to the disease you picked and describe the dietary recommendations.

Your initial forum must be at least 250 words and posted by Wednesday, 11:55 pm EST. You need to state your thesis and support it with evidence and at least one outside, reputable reference. Your textbook is not an outside reference. Remember, there is no right or wrong. Before you post your initial forum discussion, submit it in the assignment area, so its originality is checked by turnitin.com. Your originality index or score should be less than 15%. If it is greater than 15%, rewrite your discussion, submit it again in the assignment area and check the %. Keep doing this until your % is less than 15 and then post your discussion in the forum.  Please note, it can take 24 hours for the second submission to be checked, and the score returned.  If you do not check your post, then I will take points off.

Follow-up Posts: Once you have posted your initial forum discussion, you must reply to at least two other learner’s post.  One of your responses must be to the topic that was not your initial forum topic. Of course, you are welcome to respond to more than two posts. Your follow-up forums must be at least 100 words

Health services continue to affect the gross domestic product, and this dramatic transformation has great demands on each dollar spent to deliver patient-centered products. Health care marketing must be repeatedly applied and practiced strategically to include environmental dimensions, such as technology, socioeconomics, competition, and regulatory. That being said, in today’s global economy, investors and potential entrepreneurs must tap into the so-called “unexplored” market. In this aspect, health care establishments must utilize marketing, advertising, as well as sales strategies when pursuing new customers (e.g., suppose a health care investor wanted to build a small hospital in a rural community); this would entail exploration and logistical experimentation to determine who will patronize the facility. In an impoverished neighborhood, the feasibility of having lucrative profits may see diminishing returns, and so the venture may be not worth the effort. Also, suppose that the potential investor wants to sell mosquito deterrents (e.g., bedside netting in malaria-infested regions of Asia or Africa); then it would be wise to investigate the number of beds that are actually in the village, and who would be willing to purchase them. These activities take into account the investor portfolio, as well as the feasibility of marketing and selling the product. Such exploration also examines competitors, cultural differences, and—most important—identification of the customer.

Identify a local health care establishment (e.g., hospital, rehabilitation center, emergency medical center) and determine its product development practices. Utilize concepts from previous weeks to substantiate information, as needed. You may develop the discussion based on the ideas presented here, but feel free to inject any salient marketing strategy that you believe might support your presentation.

Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:

  • Justify the purpose of the selected health care establishments’ product(s) / service (s) and their associated life cycle(s).
  • Suggest one (1) strategy to improve the marketing mix of the selected health care establishment. Support your strategy by highlighting one (1) benefit of (1) portfolio analysis and providing two (2) examples that display differential advantages.
  • Assess the importance of technology in providing patients with clear and accessible information about health care organizations and the product(s) / service(s) that they provide.
  • Outline a survey to capture patients’ expectations regarding the delivery and / or accessibility of product(s) / service(s) identified.
  • Use at least three (3) quality academic resources. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.
  • Use the Internet to research what your favorite retail store is doing in the four areas of price perception (proportional price evaluations, reference prices, perceived fairness, and gain-loss framing).
    • Compare and contrast the store’s methods of price communication as they relate to the strategies shared in Chapter 3.
    • Propose a plan that provides specific ways for the selected retailer to improve in the four aspects of price perception.

Amazon is a firm which has been tremendously successful in creating a low-price perception, despite not offering the lowest prices. Often, it appears that Amazon is undercutting competition, but it is not always the case; for example, on Black Friday Amazon lowered the price of its $350 Samsung TV by $100, selling it at $250, well below the competition. But in the same instance, Amazon raised prices on HDMI cables and other complementary products. Amazon knew that shoppers on Black Friday go for the best bargain; in other words, they are extremely price conscious. Secondly, they realized that the TV played a crucial role in winning over the customer from the competition, whereas small, insignificant complementary products did not.And this is just one example; Amazon uses its customer data to change millions of prices daily, and creating a low price perception is one of the objectives.

Amazon loyalists’ shop on Amazon.com trusting that they are getting a bargain. The Amazon value proposition certainly includes advantages that are more unique than the simple act of offering low prices (assortment, convenience, experience, speed, security), but it’s this perception of low pricing that helps make shopping on Amazon almost instinctual to many consumers. It’s this perception that keeps Amazon shoppers from checking other sites for lower pricing before hitting the “Place Your Order” button. It makes retail shoppers check their Amazon app before heading to the register. It’s enough to convince folks to make purchases with just an Alexa voice command or a Dash button-push without concern for how little visibility they have into actual market pricing.

Suggestions to improve their business.

Suggestion 1: The process by which you convert leads into paying customers. This is the measure of the effectiveness of your sales efforts. If you can increase your conversion rate from one out of ten to two out of ten, you can double your sales and increase profits. Improving your ability to sell and convert interested prospects into paying customers is one of the most important things you can do. And there is no replacement for ongoing sales training, both for you and for every single person who speaks to customers, either live or on the phone.

Suggestion 2: The amount that you must pay to acquire each paying customer. You should be continually seeking creative ways to improve your advertising and promotion so that it costs you less to buy each customer. This can impact and increase profits of your business dramatically.

Please respond to the following:

  • For a product of your choosing, discuss the challenges of communicating the product’s value and ways those challenges may be addressed. Provide specific strategies and/or examples to support your responses.

There are three challenges in communicating the value of a product. The first challenge is for clarity. There are two issues that marketers need to first clarify to the targeted customers, how to use the product and how the product will improve their business. At times making customers understand can be trivial because the product may not require changes in the way it may be used. (Meise. et al, 2014)

The other challenge is differentiation. Your communication should ensure that target customers understand fully how the product will be different from other competing alternatives. It is, therefore, a challenge explaining to the targeted audience how the product will improve their businesses. The last challenge is credibility. After all the resulting experience is well clear to the customers, there is one more challenge to overcome; this is doing what is needed for customers to fully believe in the promise.

Lenovo Group Ltd is one of the organizations facing communication challenges. To overcome these challenges, the following strategies are required. The first strategy is adopting a suitable organization structure that will effectively announce on any organizational change. Second, the organization should conduct research that will seek to study their customers and competitors. The company should also look for and adopt better communication models that will help mangers to effectively communicate.

Norway is a low-context country just like the United States which means that the words themselves are very important in conversations of negotiations and contracts. For example, a contract actually means something and can be taken for what it is worth. In other words, what the contract says is what it means and is considered the final product of negotiations.

Some examples of high-context countries may include: Japan, most Asian countries, Latin America, and most African countries. In this culture, the social environment means more than the words themselves. Relationships are not valued as much, which means it’s a longer process to close a deal or negotiation because of the lack of personal bonding. Actually, Americans struggle with this a lot in the business world because they want to get straight to the point without building relationship first.

The Cost of Natural Resources

The economies and populations of BOTH the developed and developing world are affected significantly when oil prices rise, or when the prices of any basis natural resource increases. We all can recall not that long ago when the price of gasoline was nearly $5 a gallon and how it cost us $100 to fill our cars. This most certainly affected the way we all lived.

Another aspect to consider with natural resources is how everything is all interconnected. Remember when we had the push for ethanol as a miracle fuel that was added to our gasoline to save the planet? Well, that caused a lot of farmers to switch from growing corn for food to growing corn for fuel, causing massive increases in food costs in the United States and all around the world. Now the food riots did not get that much attention in the media because it did not fit the political story of saving the planet, but a lot of people died because of this idea.

Consider the following facts and explain how a person could reach different conclusions about natural resources and how the costs of these resources, and our desire to exploit them, affect thins in the world? Provide specific examples and consider the following in your response:

  • Despite all of the hype over the green economy and alternative fuel sources, much of it is just not efficient enough or cheap enough for the world to afford it. What motivation could there be for recommending that poor countries (or any country) use expensive technologies that are not that efficient when cheaper and better for the environment?
  • Why would it make sense or not to drill for oil in the developing world when oil is easily available at home?
  • What would making energy and natural resources make or not make sense? What are some government policies that promote these ideas?
  • Nuclear energy happens to be the safest and most renewable form of mass-producing energy the world has thus far discovered. Yet, there has not been a reactor built in the United States in decades. Why?
