Your completed assignment will be a critical reflection paper based on the 5C Approach for Decision Making introduced in Chapter 1 of the textbook and explored in the Week 1 Discussion forum.

· To begin your assignment, please refer to the Chapter 3 Activity 1: What Are Your Aptitudes? Read through the aptitudes, definitions, and examples in the chart and complete the following questions adapted from the textbook.

1. Write two paragraphs about two experiences (1 paragraph per experience) in your life that you particularly enjoyed.

2. Reread your descriptions of each experience and decide which of the aptitudes shown in the chart named Activity 1: What Are Your Aptitudes? in Chapter 3 best represents each experience.

3. Complete a three-column chart of your own. List the aptitudes you identified in question 2 in the first column. In the second column, list the interests and experiences you have had that support your choice of aptitudes. In the third column, list the aptitudes you’d like to develop or improve.

4. Use the 5C process to identify how your aptitudes and abilities can guide your decisions about coursework and college experiences that will ultimately prepare you for your career.

§ First, state one of your aptitudes or abilities you wish to improve as a challenge that requires a choice. For instance, the statement shared in the text is “I want to perform before an audience.” This relates to Artistic Talent. Perhaps you want to improve your verbal communication or numerical skills.

§ Next, identify your choices—the courses, activities, or resources at DeVry that might provide you with that experience. For Artistic Talent, this might include joining the campus choir, volunteering at a school, auditioning for a play, or taking a class in dance. Your interests, aptitudes, and abilities naturally affect the choices you make, so tap into campus resources to identify choices to support the development of your chosen aptitudes.

§ What are the consequences of each option? That is, if you implement that option, what would be the benefits of it?

§ Which option would you choose?

§ How might you check the outcome of your choice?

INSTRUCTIONS – DUE IN 12hOURS

Film Feedback Analysis Paper

The film analysis paper is designed to be a short essay, which allows you to begin thinking about the movie(s). Writing helps you to think, since you have to articulate your otherwise unformed or vague thoughts. This, in turn, will help us to have a good discussion of the film(s) with others, including on the message board. While it is not required to complete this before the message board, it may be helpful. The essay should be approximately 500-700 words. This should not summarize the plots /story of the films, except where it is necessary to make your examples clear, since your reader(s) has seen it.Rather, devote your limited words to ANALYZING or giving feedback on the film.In your analysis, you need to address the following questions, not necessarily in this order and certainly not as a checklist, but rather in the form of an essay, with a thesis statement, specific examples drawn from the film, and with a conclusion.

  1. What is the film’s goal? Or when doing two films, what were the goals?
  2. How well has the goal been accomplished?
    1. What are the primary conflicts in the movie(s)?
    2. How do they contribute to the movie’s goal / meaning?
  3. What sociological/religious/cultural issues does the movie(s)? If 2 movies, give similarities or contrasts.
  4. What does it simulate you to think about? Does it have any impact on how you view sport or society?

Your essay should incorporate discussion of technical issues related to film making (at least some you notice). These sort of issues might relate to issues such as:

  1. mise-en-scene (arrangement of scenery or settings)
  2. music
  3. lighting / color
  4. acting / casting
  5. sets / costume

The instructor does not expect you to be evaluating these things at a high level, but please look for them. How does it impact the story?

Format and Submission

The instructor is fully aware that most of these movies have reviews and analysis online. Please be cautious in using these as you will tend to analyze the films from that writers perspective, and not your own. Use your experience and background, especially the sport related ones, not someone else’s. Or worse, you will be tempted to plagiarize which can cost you your grade or graduate student status. Use your words and ideas. The paper will be submitted via dropbox by deadline listed in syllabusThey should be double spaced, with one-inch margins, using Times New Roman, 12pt font. They should have an interesting title (not just the name of the movie!) and your name should appear at the top of the first page. The last part of your analysis paper will be the honor statement (this won’t count towards the word limit!):On my word of honor, I have completely viewed the movie (or movies) that I am analyzing.==================================================================Film analysis papers will be graded using the following rubric. Before you submit your paper, you should examine it carefully and think about how you would fill this rubric for your own paper.Paper rubricScorePossItem2Introduction / Conclusion: Does the paper have an introductory paragraph with a clear and argumentative thesis statement? Is it clear what you are going to discuss?1Organization: Is the essay clearly organized? How a paragraph relates to its predecessor and successor should be clear. Does the paper have effective transitions from example to example? Each paragraph should discuss only one example. Does the paper do this or are there multiple points made in a paragraph?6Assignment: Does the paper address the questions posed:

  1. What is the film’s goal? Or when doing two films, what were the goals?
  2. How well has the goal been accomplished?
    1. What are the primary conflicts in the movie?
    2. How do they contribute to the movie’s goal / meaning?
  3. What sociological/religious/cultural issues does the movie(s)? If 2 movies, give similarities or contrasts.
  4. What does it simulate you to think about? Does it have any impact on how you view sport or society?

2Examples: Does the paper cite specific examples from the readings to support the argument? Does it spend too much time summarizing the film? Or does it briefly describe scenes to facilitate their analysis?2Mechanics and Grammar: Does the paper follow APA guidelines, citation guidelines, and have an honor- statement? Is the paper written in formal, academic English, without spelling mistakes, punctuation errors, etc?2Filmmaking storytelling: Does the paper attempt to identify film making or storytelling techniques, and the purposes for doing so.15One last very important point. Perhaps you really want to write about some other aspect of the film that does not really fit. Perhaps it is a character or situation that you really connect with. Perhaps there is a current event that you want to relate these films to. Or maybe you just have a really good idea that doesn’t fit with the above rubric. If that applies to you, then please write on that topic. If you want to go longer than what is mentioned above, then just make sure it is well written. Explore your ideas. It need not fit the above flow.It does need the following, however.

  • Honor statement.
  • Connection of both movies. It does not need to be an equal balance, but there should be some commonalities or points of connection.
  • A connection to recreation, sport, or leisure.
  • Some meaningful theme throughout.

Career Opportunities
Please address the following questions in a 2-3-page essay, complete with a title page, reference page, and citations.
1.    What career opportunities are available for individuals who obtain a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice?
2.    What are the salary ranges of these careers?

3.    Are more opportunities available for those individuals who continue in their degrees with a Master’s degree in criminal justice

·         Support your discussion with outside references.

·         Be sure to use APA

Assignment 1

Task 1. Briefly explain the meaning of strategic leadership of human resources. Why is this important to a principal? What would this look like in practice? Use your readings and other resources to support your response.

Task 2. Based on the policies you have read; do you believe that the development and implementation of policy is important to acquiring and leading human resources on your campus? Briefly explain why or why not?

Task 3. Interview a principal, based on questions in tasks 1 and 2. Take notes, as needed. Write at least a half page reflection on what you learned from your interviews, discussing any differences, additions, or confirmations that were discovered. Interviews can be held face—to—face, by phone, Skype, or other accessible platform. (It is not required that the principal you interview, work in your school district).

Task 4. Based on DAA (LEGAL), a district should not discriminate against an employee,

based on a set of protected categories. In addition, this policy also states that a district has a duty to maintain a working environment free of harassment. In your role as principal, discuss how you would ensure compliance with both aspects of this policy. Why are they both an important part of your leadership? How could adherence to this policy, or lack thereof, impact your campus culture?

A new principal of a high school begins to review the campus master schedule and notices that there are several teaching vacancies that must be filled. He calls a staff meeting and discloses this information to the staff, in order to inform them that he is working to resolve classroom—overcrowding issues. Later on that day, the principal discussed with his campus administrative team that the current staff appears to be aging, and he would like the interview committee to focus on hiring younger staff members in order to invigorate the environment. Based on this, he advises the team to pay close attention to younger candidates, or those likely to be younger candidates, when reviewing applicants. One of the staff members states that she has the perfect candidate; however, she thinks that he may have been engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a minor, which was in violation of the law. Despite this, she ensures everyone that the applicant is a very good person. The principal proceeds to prepare the posting, and submits the necessary forms for approval. The district posts the vacancy on the district website. Being that there is a preferred candidate, the principal suggests filling the vacancy in the next 5 days.

Based on your knowledge of policy, list some of the concerns with this principal’s actions. Refer to the specific policy that supports your concern. Briefly explain how would you address the ethical concerns and decision making in this scenario.

Task 6: Policy Scenario 2

A teacher at an elementary school observes a large bruise on one of her student’s arm. She immediately asks the student if he is ok. He says yes, and responds by saying that he fell off of his bike. Later that day, the teacher over hears the student telling his friend that a relative, who stays at his home, hits him every day for no reason. The teacher informs you, as the principal, of this. How should you advise the teacher? Support your decision using policy. As a campus principal, what would you do to ensure that your campus staff is cognizant of the reporting requirements related to abuse? Why is this important?

When the situation is stressed or critical, how much should a manager change in the manager’s usual leadership approach to exercise situational leadership? What parts of a leadership style should a leader not be flexible on?

Your response should be at least 200 words in length.

Describe how you would take human behavior into account when communicating something or leading in an effort to motivate your people.

Your response should be at least 200 words in length.

Please make sure that you read THE LITERATURE REVIEW OF TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION MODELS AND THEORIES FOR THE NOVELTY TECHNOLOGY before completing the assignment. A local community college has a problem with retention of students. The community college has done some preliminary research and found out that students feel disconnected and do not know what is going on with their course schedules, degree programs and options. The community college’s board of directors has decided through the use of a consultant that a mobile phone application that runs on Apple and Android smartphones is the best strategy to help with the perceived feeling of being ‘disconnected’ by the students. You are in charge of coming up with a solution, essentially the application and making sure that this is going to be integrated with the school’s information systems (none are specified, so make some assumptions) which is going to provide students with information.

  1. What are some of the basic features that you would put in the application?
  2. How can you measure the potential success of the program before it is implemented?
  3. Who are your stakeholders in the project and how can they be useful to you in answering the question of whether or not they would use the program?

Please make sure that the paper is APA formatted, citations and references, as well. Please reference some of the models that are mentioned in the article and/or a model or approach that you have found that you think will be more effective.

Your post should be three paragraphs.

For the first paragraph of your initial post, complete the following short exercise and answer the question below.

Reflect on a situation where you may have lost your temper, cried, or showed other emotions you later regretted. Consider what caused you to lose control. Consider if you stopped to think before reacting. Consider how others reacted to your emotions and you felt afterwards. Then answer this question.

How has emotional intelligence played a part in your past when you might have lost your temper, cried, or showed other emotions you later regretted?

For the second paragraph of your post, select any one of the following bullet points and address all elements of your chosen bullet point. Select a different bullet point section than what your classmates have already posted so that we can engage several discussions on relevant topics. If all of the bullet points have been addressed, then you may begin to re-use the bullet points with the expectation that varied responses continue.

  • Michael A. Krasner (2009) said in a speech that “Humor falls into the category of symbolic reassurance because it affords leaders the opportunity through manipulating words and transforming their own public personas to neutralize potentially damaging situations or to enhance their own standing by providing audiences with emotional satisfaction. Thus, support is kept or gained without spending any political resources, without shifting any material goods, and without changing the leader’s behavior. Thus, humor achieves symbolic reassurance in a remarkably efficient fashion . . . Even a mediocre joke has strong effects.”

Assess the point the author is trying to make including your reasons for agreeing or disagreeing. Evaluate whether humor is important in business environments. How can leaders use humor effectively to bring about a positive change in an organization? When is humor appropriate within an organization? When can the use of humor be inappropriate or detrimental?

  • Coaching is becoming a popular form of leadership. The International Coach Federation defines coaching as “Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential” (About, 2016, para. 9). Coaches provide an ongoing partnership that helps their coachees identify and achieve their personal and professional goals. With an organizational context, coaching is often performance oriented.

Assess whether every leader should be a coach. Should leaders be trained to coach their employees? Analyze the value of coaching within an organization. What qualities must an effective coach possess?

  • Consider these powerful and influential leaders: President Obama, Hitler, Jesus Christ, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Ho Chi Minh, Mahatma Gandhi, Walt Disney, and Princess Diana.

Select any three of the listed leaders. How would you describe their leadership styles? Are there multiple styles at work or do these leaders represent one consistent style? Analyze whether effective leaders should develop one specific style of leadership or should hone a multiple styles approach. What are the benefits of using multiple leadership styles? What are the possible challenges of using multiple leadership styles?

  • Benioff and Southwick (2004) discuss the importance of corporate leaders creating a companywide culture of philanthropy and instilling in their employees a desire to give back. Such a culture is sometimes called compassionate capitalism.

Evaluate how emotional intelligence applies to the concept of compassionate capitalism. Do the models of emotional intelligence and compassionate capitalism work in tandem or are they separate and distinct? Can a leader with a low emotional intelligence quotient (EQ) be a compassionate leader and philanthropist? Defend your perspectives.

Please note that this is in outline format, so not necessarily a paper. If everyone can do at least 300 words that would be great. With at least one peer reviewed source per person. Lets try not to all get the same one. This will later be turned into a powerpoint presentation with 14-16 slides in week 5.
