Topic: Pharaohs as a Political Ruler in Ancient Egypt

Instead of reviewing and analyzing books and articles, this assignment requires students to review websites pertaining to a particular topic. Each website description will follow a similar format as your annotated bibliography. Websites will be evaluated for content, accuracy, bias, relevance, and significance to your chosen topic.

For this assignment, you will search for five websites that are acceptable for use in a college-level history research paper. UMUC library databases (for example JSTOR or other journal databases), Wikipedia, History.com or any other encyclopedia or wiki-type site like about.com are NOT acceptable, sites that require a subscription are additionally NOT acceptable. Write a paragraph for each website (five total approximately 200-250 words each) in which you describe the contents of each website in detail, and why you think the site is acceptable for use in an academic research paper, using the information you collected from your evaluation of the site.

Complete the following for your annotated webliography:

Provide a complete citation (as you would include it in your bibliography) for the site, including the URL and your date of access. Note that the required style for this class is Chicago Manual of Style.

For an example of what elements to include in your citation, go to http://sties.umuc.edu/library/libhow/chicago_examples.cfm and click on Web Sites.  You can also click on the Chicago Style Guide Resources module under the Table of Contents to find examples of how to properly cite websites using the Chicago Manual of Style.

The third step in planning a unit plan is to prepare how you will differentiate and accommodate instruction for your students to meet their specific learning needs.

Differentiation and accommodations are some of the most important components when preparing a unit plan, because it guides the teacher in meeting the diverse needs of all students during instruction. The planning process will help the teacher determine when to differentiate and make accommodations. It is critical for teachers to observe or review academic data in order to appropriately differentiate for their students.

Part 1: Differentiation – Unit Plan

For this assignment, you will complete the Differentiation and Accommodation portion for the “Science Unit Plan” to prepare for students that are below, average, and advanced in academic ability.

Use the “Class Profile” as you are determining differentiation strategies and appropriate accommodations:

  • Differentiation strategies and learning opportunities that effectively address student’ learning needs identified in the “Class Profile.”
  • Resources and instructional adaptations to support specific differentiation needs, including testing accommodations required to meet students’ needs.

The details of the “Science Unit Plan” will continue to be fully developed and revised throughout the duration of the course, culminating in a complete unit plan due in Topic 5.

Part 2: Reflection

In 250-500 words, summarize and reflect on the process of planning for differentiation strategies in order to meet the diverse needs of students in the science content area. What issues might arise that would need additional emphasis in the event differentiation was not effective? What resources or support staff could you utilize to meet specific differentiation needs?

Support your reflection with at least two scholarly resources.

Submit the “Science Unit Plan” and reflection as one deliverable.

While APA format is not required for this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Chapter 17 introduced some challenges to policy making in developing countries. If you were an analyst working for the St. Petersburg Informational and Analytical Center, explain how you would use data available to you to prepare a report for the Governor for the State Program “Combating Proliferation of Drugs.” Briefly explain what you would include in your report to detail the problem, and what the forecast results would be for each of several responses to the problem. (You do not have to use actual data from a real model for this discussion.) The idea is to focus on how models can use real data to create forecasts.

To complete this assignment, you must do the following:

A) Create a new thread. As indicated above, assume you are an analyst working for the St. Petersburg Informational and Analytical Center. Explain how you would use data available to you to prepare a report for the Governor for the State Program “Combating Proliferation of Drugs.” Briefly explain what you would include in your report to detail the problem, and what the forecast results would be for each of several responses to the problem. (You do not have to use actual data from a real model for this discussion.) The idea is to focus on how models can use real data to create forecasts.

  4-page

As you discussed in this unit’s Discussion Board, survey research is one of the most common ways of collecting data. However, not all survey research is created equal. In this activity, your task is to collect at least 5 different examples of surveys used by local police agencies. Using these examples, write a 4-page report comparing the different examples. In your report, provide at least 5 examples associated with best practices or examples that you believe could be improved. Supply a ranking of the different surveys, and show your favorite and least favorite survey, again supplying an explanation.

The specific steps are as follows:

  1. Conduct independent research, and find at least 5 different examples of surveys used by local police agencies.
  2. Compare each of the surveys, finding your favorite and least favorite survey.
    • Supply at least a 1-page explanation on your selections.
  3. Using your research examples, find at least 5 examples of best practices or areas that could be improved.
    • Dedicate at least 3 pages to this section.

In an essay (complete sentence please!), identify why you think these two images below are shown together by comparing and contrasting the two works. Remember think about how they compare and contrast in terms of: Subject, Culture/Historical Context, Style and Function. Also discuss each work’s individual importance. Show me how much you have learned!

A good essay will have an introduction with thesis statement, body paragraphs and conclusion and be around a page and a half in length.

All information discussed in your essay should come from material discussed in this class. Make sure to cite where you got your information. These citations can be informal,  (i.e. (Besancon) or (Khan Academy) or (Kleiner)). No outside sources should be used. This is about showing what you have learned from this class, not what you can find with a quick google search.

Assignment Details

Diaspora can be defined as follows (Diaspora, 2018):

Any group migration or flight from a country or region; any group that has been dispersed outside its traditional homeland, especially involuntarily, as Africans during the trans-Atlantic slave trade; and any religious group living as a minority among people of the prevailing religion.

Examples of diaspora populations could include Jewish people all over the world; African-Americans and others of African descent brought to the Americas in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade; and refugee groups driven from their homes as a result of civil war.

In this assignment, you will identify, describe, and examine the issue of radicalization. Review RAND Corporation’s Conference Study on radicalization of diaspora risk populations. Another available resource is the article, Radicalisation in the Diaspora: Why Muslims in the West Attack Their Host Countries (WP).

In 3 pages, address the following:

  • Discuss why some diaspora populations are at risk of radicalization. Identify some risk factors that make these populations vulnerable to radicalization.
  • Identify some potential public policy approaches to mitigate radicalization. Develop some recommendations for implementation. When proposing policies, make sure that they are not too broad and are designed to specifically address the issues that you have identified.
  • Discuss how potential policy approaches suited for mitigating risk populations with one worldview may not be suited for mitigation of other risk populations espousing other worldviews.
    • Discuss what factors may shape a particular worldview for members of the diaspora populations that you have discussed.

Be sure to reference all sources using APA style
