MBA5005 Individual Project

To make the course engaging for each student, you will select a legal topic to research in Weeks 3 and 5 of the course.  Click HERE for complete instructions and a list of topics. Although you are not required to select the exact topics listed, you should select something closely related. Try to select a topic that reflects an issue that is related to a concern you have in your professional life.   Consult with your instructor if you are unsure whether your topic is acceptable for the class.

Week 3 Deliverables

Introduction

Provide a short introduction to the topic. Provide some background about the topic selected and why it was selected. Include definitions as necessary. Use more than one paragraph, if needed. You will refine the introduction and background information when submitting the final paper in Week 5.

Literature Review

Conduct an abbreviated literature review related to the topic you selected. A literature review identifies information that is already known about a research topic. Although you will not conduct an actual research study in this class, a summary of scholarly information that has been written about your topic makes up an important component of your project.

For Week 3, locate two scholarly articles related to your topic. Summarize the articles in your own words and explain how they are related to your topic. Do not use published cases for this section. You must use scholarly articles from the South University Online Library. Legal journals may provide some of the best sources of information.

Laws and Regulations

Research and analyze one law or regulation related to the topic you selected. The information may require research of federal and/or state laws, as well as administrative agency laws. Summarize the information about the law or regulation you found and explain how it applies to your topic.

Cases

This week you will find one published case (lawsuit) that is related to the topic you selected. Summarize the case in your own words and explain how it is related to your topic. Provide a summary that includes the name of the case, state or federal court, issue, summary of events and ruling. Explain whether you agree or disagree with the court’s decision.

The following websites may be helpful in finding cases to use in the paper. You must read the actual case and not a summary found on law firm websites, blogs and similar sources.

  • According to White (2019), greenwashing is “deceptive marketing communications that promote a perception that a company’s policies or products are environmentally friendly when that is not actually the case” while green marketing is “an approach characterized by practices that minimize the impacts of production processes, packaging, and marketing communications” (sec. 10.2).  After reading about the Diesel Global Warming Ready campaign, I believe Diesel’s campaign is greenwashing.  The company itself has not changed its practices in manufacturing, shipping, sourcing, or material to help environmental sustainability.  Diesel advertises and seems to promote the idea of environmental sustainability, but contradicts the idea with their actions.  The pictures used to market their products promote harming the environment such as the picture of people on a yacht posted by Diesel called Rio de Janeiro underwater (Macleod, 2007).
  • Pryor to this discussion, this campaign wouldn’t prevent me from buying their product without further research.  I tend to not follow campaign ads or promotions but rather shop for products that I like or are a reasonable price.  Since I had to look into this campaign further for this discussion post, I will now not support their company or campaign base on greenwashing and the company not caring about the environment.

  • This Global Warming Ready campaign by Diesel seemed like they were using global warming as a way to take creative pictures to advertise their brand and grab people’s attention. Global warming is such a hot topic, and Diesel used that to their advantage without actually doing anything to aid in global warming prevention. I think the main goal of Diesel was to make more money by looking like they were involved in the environment. When I went to their virtual site, www.stopglobalwarming.org (Links to an external site.), none of the links worked. I couldn’t click on anything to show my support or get involved. The only links that worked were all of the hotel links at the bottom of the page. Also, if you go to their website, there is nothing that shows they are involved in any sort of environment concern. I’m guessing their global warming campaign idea died off rather quickly.
  • I think this campaign uses more of a greenwashing technique than a green marketing technique. I didn’t see them claim anywhere that their clothes were ethically made or environmentally friendly. However, they did advertise their campaign would help global warming, but there are very few details about their actual involvement and impact. Their photo advertisements seemed like they were trying to make global warming look cool with their creative backgrounds and high fashion models.
  • I don’t think I would have bought from Diesel because they are way too expensive, but after seeing this campaign I think I would be even less likely to buy them. If they were genuinely concerned with the environment, and using their profits for a good cause, I think I higher price tag would be justifiable. However, the fact that they put on a show to look involved so that they could make more money seems rather shady to me.

Answer the 3 Question

  1. What was the initial theory about Deane’s death? What facts supported that theory?
  2. Who is Julian Boyd, and what is his theory about Deane’s death?
  3. Can Deane’s death be attributed to Suicide? Murder? Stroke? Accidental Overdose? Explain the reasons for your response.

each answer should be a paragraph long to several paragraphs fully address all parts of the question

A logic model or program theory is a description or model frequently pictorial of how a program is supposed to achieve its expected outcomes and solve the identified problem for which it was created. It creates a logical links between expected outcomes and the activities designed to achieve them and incorporates the evidence-based theoretical assumptions that explain how the activities will lead to outcomes. A program theory or logic model is NOT the theoretical framework on which your project is based although it may be related to a theoretical framework. A theoretical or conceptual framework is a general theory that explains why some things happen. A program theory or logic model is unique to your project and explains how it is supposed to work.

Assignment Prompt

  1. Develop a one-page diagram of theoretical foundation for your project/program, describing how and why your project should achieve the desired outcome. Add references on the second page. You may arrange items in the diagram in any way you choose, but the diagrams should include each of the following components and show the logical connections between them:
    1. The need or problem to be addressed by the project/program with supporting data
    2. The context for the project/program (attach a reference list with your diagram)
    3. The strategy (ies) proposed to address the need/problem
    4. The evidence base for the proposed strategies (attached a reference list with your diagram)
    5. Factors that will influence the use of strategy
    6. The expected outcomes of the project/program
    7. The resulting impact of the project/program if the outcomes are achieved

For this assignment, you are provided with four video case studies (linked in the Resources). Review the cases of Julio and Kimi, and choose either Reese or Daneer for the third case.  Review these two videos: •The Case of Julio:  Julio is a 36-year-old single gay male. He is of Cuban descent. He was born and raised in Florida by his parents with his two sisters. He attended community college but did not follow through with his plan to obtain a four-year degree, because his poor test taking skills created barriers. He currently works for a sales promotion company, where he is tasked with creating ads for local businesses. He enjoys the more social aspects of his job, but tracking the details is challenging and has caused him to lose jobs in the past. He has been dating his partner, Justin, for five years. Justin feels it is time for them to commit and build a future. Justin is frustrated that Julio refuses to plan the wedding and tends to blame Julio’s family. While Julio’s parents hold some traditional religious values, they would welcome Justin into the family but are respectfully waiting for Julio to make his plans known. Justin is as overwhelmed by the details at home as he is at work. •The Case of Kimi:  Kimi is a 48-year-old female currently separated from her husband, Robert, of 16 years. They have no children, which was consistent with Kimi’s desire to focus on her career as a sales manager. She told Robert a pregnancy would wreck her efforts to maintain her body. His desire to have a family was a goal he decided he needed to pursue with someone else. He left Kimi six months ago for a much younger woman and filed for divorce. Kimi began having issues with food during high school when she was on the dance team and felt self-conscious wearing the form-fitting uniform. During college, she sought treatment because her roommate became alarmed by her issues around eating. She never told her parents about this and felt it was behind her. Her parents are Danish and value privacy. They always expected Kimi to be independent. Her lack of communication about her private life did not concern them. They are troubled by Robert’s behavior and consider his conspicuous infidelity as a poor reflection upon their family. Kimi has moved in with her parents while she and Robert are selling the house, which has upended the balance in their relationship.  For a third case, choose one of these videos: •The Case of Reese:  -Reese is a 44-year-old married African American female. Her parents live in another state, and she is their only child. Her father is a retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel who was stationed both in the United States and overseas while Reese was growing up. She entered the Air Force as soon as she graduated high school at age 17 and has achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. She has been married 15 years to John, and they recently discovered she is pregnant. The unexpected pregnancy has been quite disorienting for someone who has planned and structured major decision her entire life. Reese is fiercely loyal to her extended family and frequently travels to help her parents care for her aunts, uncles, and cousins whenever they experience hardships. Her efforts are not always appreciated, because she offers very specific guidance and is easily frustrated by their lack of followthrough. •The Case of Daneer:  Daneer is a 50-year-old male. He emigrated to the United States from Serbia with his parents and older brother when he was four years old. Daneer and his brother were harshly disciplined by their parents when they failed to follow family rules or did not live up to their standards. It was not unusual for his parents to refuse to speak to the boys for days when their grades were low. Daneer’s parents are practicing Muslims, but Daneer rejected their faith when he reached adulthood. His relationships with his parents and brother are strained by his tendency to alternate between being a doting son and lashing out when they rebuke his lifestyle. They disapprove of his life choices that are inconsistent with their religious beliefs. Daneer was briefly married in his 20s, but his wife left him after six months and filed an order of protection. He was briefly hospitalized after a serious suicide attempt shortly after his marriage ended. He has worked several jobs as a waiter and often quits before he is fired due to conflicts with other staff.  Download the Unit 9 Assignment Template. Use it to complete your assignment.  Instructions  For each case, you will complete a diagnostic analysis you select from the list of assessment tools provided late in this assignment. Each case requires the following information to be addressed: •Describe presenting concerns and relevant history. •Explain what information has been provided in each case that helps to determine which disorders are appropriate for consideration (differential diagnoses) for a final diagnosis. Evaluate how at least one assessment tool, which is listed in the List of Assessment Tools resource, will aid in obtaining further information to back up your final diagnosis. The Differential Diagnosis Decision Tree may be helpful to guide this process. •Present DSM-5 and ICD-10 codes including relevant Z codes. Assume that the client has presented for treatment with their partner or parents. •Provide a descriptive rationale for the DSM diagnosis that best fits the information provided, including relevant ICD codes. This should be written in a narrative form using complete sentences. Support your rationale with scholarly sources. Optional readings found in the course syllabus may be particularly relevant. •Describe indications or contraindications that help determine whether a medication consultation is appropriate, and provide rationale with support from scholarly sources.

Using what you have learned from this unit and your own life experiences, explain your interpretation of the statement by Weiss, Tilin, and Morgan (2018), “power motive is often misunderstood as a negative trait” (p. 85).

Weiss, D., Tilin, F., & Morgan, M. (2018). The interprofessional health care team: Leadership and development (2nd ed.). Burlington, MA: Jones & Bartlett Learning.

During the next few units, we will be spending some time discussing the role relationships play in the effectiveness and efficiency of teams. At the core, the conversation will be around your role as the leader of those teams. In our fast-paced world, too often we get wrapped up in all the tasks we are responsible for, and we overlook the most important asset our organization has at its disposal—the people. Weiss, Tilin, & Morgan (2018) are quick to point out (in Chapter 5) that when we survey the most recent research on leadership, it becomes obvious that there is an interaction between leadership traits, a leadership style, the context in which the leader functions, and the specific behavior any group might have as a result of the interaction that takes place by members of the group. Earlier researchers seemed to focus on individual characteristics of leadership. Weiss et al. (2018) take a slightly different approach and ask us to view leadership thorough a different lens. One of the differences in perspective in any organization is the comparison between a telescope and a kaleidoscope. The telescope is like our frontline team members. They know their job, and they are very good  at their job. They focus in on the specifics of their own personal responsibilities. Leaders view the larger picture; they see the amazing collage of shapes, sizes, colors, and complexity of the overall organization. Both the telescope and the kaleidoscope are important perspectives. In our organizations, we need to see details, but at the same time, we need to see the bigger picture. The challenge for leaders is that one eye needs to be focused on the colorful kaleidoscope picture, and the other eye needs to look well into the future.

Here’s an example of an incubator in the Dayton area (Links to an external site.) (we saw a video on this place (Links to an external site.) earlier in the module). Search for an incubator that could have helped your cleint when they first started their business. Address the following:

  • Include the incubator’s name, brief description, and a link to their website.
  • What services do they offer?
  • How much will it cost to take advantage of the incubator’s services?
  • What are your impressions of the incubator?

1) Find two examples of specialized incubators, meaning those incubators who focus on helping business in a particular industry or field. Briefly describe the two examples you found and what industries they cater to.

2) Think about the needs of non-profit organizations. What kinds of services should an incubator provide to not-for-profits?

3) Review what others have written. Reply to at least two posts that you think posted unique specialized incubators. What about them is unique? Do you think they have longevity, meaning will the incubators survive over the next 10 or more years? Why or why not?

  • Influences on human behavior; users not always aware of behavior
  • How insider threat contributes to organizational compromise
  • The basic methods and tools used to defend against networks security risks
  • Malicious behavior and insider threat (identifying how documents were stolen and mitigating that risk)
  • Compare well-known cases of insider threat found in the news and media
