This week let’s discuss integration.

1. Name a company that practices horizontal integration and describe the structure.

3. In your opinion, which is better to work for? Which offers workers the better opportunity to better yourself?

4. If you owned the business, which would you implement? Think again about the workers opportunities. Does their betterment also mean what’s best for your business?

Community policing should be a citizen owned effort. Of course the police and other city agencies should be involved when necessary but the most consistent and comprehensive effort should belong to the neighborhoods and businesses that are in the affected area.

Assume that you are a community leader in an area with no ongoing community-oriented policing effort. For this week’s assignment you are to evaluate the role of citizens in the community-oriented policing effort. How would a group of citizens assess the needs of the community and critically analyze what resources they have and need to make a positive impact? What would be the best strategy be for your group to engage with the police and other city agencies in this effort? As an advanced practice nurse assisting physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders, it is important to not only understand the impact of disorders on the body, but also the impact of drug treatments on the body. The relationships between drugs and the body can be described by pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.

Pharmacokinetics describes what the body does to the drug through absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion, whereas pharmacodynamics describes what the drug does to the body.

 

hen selecting drugs and determining dosages for patients, it is essential to consider individual patient factors that might impact the patient’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes. These patient factors include genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, behavior (i.e., diet, nutrition, smoking, alcohol, illicit drug abuse), and/or pathophysiological changes due to disease.

For this Discussion, you reflect on a case from your past clinical experiences and consider how a patient’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes may alter his or her response to a drug.

To Prepare

• Review the Resources for this module and consider the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
• Reflect on your experiences, observations, and/or clinical practices from the last 5 years and think about how pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic factors altered his or her anticipated response to a drug.
• Consider factors that might have influenced the patient’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes, such as genetics (including pharmacogenetics), gender, ethnicity, age, behavior, and/or possible pathophysiological changes due to disease.
• Think about a personalized plan of care based on these influencing factors and patient history in your case study.

 

Post a description of the patient case from your experiences, observations, and/or clinical practice from the last 5 years. Then, describe factors that might have influenced pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes of the patient you identified. Finally, explain details of the personalized plan of care that you would develop based on influencing factors and patient history in your case. Be specific and provide examples.

Gene Therapy and Cloning

Part 1: Cloning is a major topic of debate and is described in the textbook. Briefly describe the process of cloning in the lab incorporating facts from the textbook. Please discuss the advantages and disadvantages of cloning and its current application. Highlight the differences between cloning and Genetically Modified Organisms or GMO. Are GMOs common in our society? which benefits and dangers can  you highlight with such technique?

Give a specific and detailed example of how gene therapy may be used to solve problems associated with genetic disorders. Discuss the benefits and possible hazards of gene therapy to human health.

Debate the purpose of descriptive statistics as a form of summary information and why it is useful in some situations to describe populations. Describe a situation where you have had to use descriptive stats in a real world application. What were some limitations in this real world situation?
