WRITING ASSIGNMENT 4A: Completing the Revolution

In some ways, the Civil War completed the American Revolution. The ideals boldly proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence, that “all men are created equal”, were now being somewhat realized. The reality was that at the end of Reconstruction the United States was still, in fact, an “unfinished nation,” and that it will be the Civil Rights era and its accomplishments that completed the revolution.

WRITING ASSIGNMENT 3A: The New Deal and Minorities

Roosevelt called his program to reform the nation’s economy during the Great Depression the New Deal. Not only did it bring about major reforms, and introduce tougher regulation of big business, it also set a precedent for greatly expanded federal government involvement in the economy and society. Some of the programs that were initiated had a lasting impact while others were struck down by the Supreme Court. Just as the depression impacted people differently, so did the reforms that were passed during the New Deal.

In order to prepare you must complete the following readings:

  • Review and identify relevant sections of Chapters 23, 24, and 25.

As we have discussed in LCS 121, many people today consider the practice of reading to be under threat. Both Orwell’s “Politics and the English Language” and Carr’s “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” deal, in part, with these concerns about declines in literacy. In a short argumentative paper, and supporting your argument with scholarly research, weigh in on this topic. Is technology, as some writers think, having an adverse effect on how people think? Or is it—as many others believe—leading to breakthroughs in intelligence and innovation?  (counter argument)- a one para claim

5 to 7 pages in length.

  • Your paper should include a Works Cited page (which does not count towards the page total) and the citations should be in MLA format.
  • Your paper should be titled, and include the number of the question you are answering in the upper left hand corner (along with name, date, and class information).
  • You may use scholarly material already read in class, but these sources do not count towards your two outside sources mentioned above.

You are the CHRO of Big City Medical Center. The CNO of BCMC comes to meet with you to discuss a no-fault medication error plan. Nursing literature shows that a no-fault system causes greater reporting of errors. With a better understanding of errors, remedial actions can be taken to improve quality in medication administration. You are responsible for the medical center’s disciplinary system. You have routinely disciplined RNs and other clinical staff for clinical errors including medication errors. What do you say to the CNO?

In this assignment, you are to use the same corporation you selected and focused on for Assignments 1, 2, and 3.

Consider the corporation you have selected to use in your first three assignments. Identify one of the firm’s major competitors that you would consider working for.

Research the corporation on its own Website, the public filings on the Securities and Exchange Commission EDGAR database (http://www.sec.gov/edgar.shtml), in the University’s online databases, and any other sources you can find. The annual report will often provide insights that can help address some of these questions.

You will do a 15 minutes presentation to the Board of Directors of the corporation. Develop an eight to twelve slide PowerPoint presentation with speaker notes or record a video based upon Assignments 1 through 4. You may choose to compare your chosen corporation to a major competitor with whom you would like to work. You will make recommendations to the Board of Directors based upon your analysis and decision on why the corporation remains or is not a good fit for you.

Determine the impact of the company’s mission, vision, and primary stakeholders on its overall success as a competitive employer in the industry.

Create a SWOT analysis for the company to determine its major strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

Based on the SWOT analysis, outline a strategy for the company to capitalize on its strengths and opportunities, and minimize its weaknesses and threats.

Discuss the various levels and types of strategies the firm may use to maximize its competitiveness and profitability.

Outline a communications plan the company could use to make the strategies you recommend above known to all stakeholders.

Develop an executive level Power Point presentation with 8 -12 slides with speaker notes and appropriate graphics or professional video.

Assess efforts by this corporation to be a responsible (ethical) corporate citizen and determine the impact these efforts (or lack thereof) have on the company’s bottom line. Provide specific examples to support your response.

3) Explain the criminal justice model. Outline the model by identifying factors that may influence the various paths that an individual may take through the criminal justice system once an arrest is made. Why do you think the basic model, which was created in 1967, is still used today? Do you believe it can or should be improved upon? Explain your rationale.

Your answer must be at least 500 words in length.

1) ABC Corp. brought a lawsuit against Mr. and Mrs. Morgan, won the suit, and obtained a judgment for monetary damages in the amount of $53,000. ABC Corp. recorded a judgement lien against the Morgans’ homestead property. The homestead property is located an any county, any state. The Morgans then filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy relief and included the judgement lien as a discharge – able debt on their bankruptcy forms. Under the laws of any state, the homestead exemption cap is $40,000 of equity in homestead property. The bankruptcy petition was granted, and the judgement was discharged by the bankruptcy court. The Morgans are maintaining that a satisfaction of judgement should be recorded, removing the lien from the homestead property. ABC Corp. argues that recording a satisfaction of judgement would result in a windfall for the Morgans because state law permits only a $40,000 homestead exemption and the judgement amount is $53,000. Should a satisfaction of judgement be recorded? why or why not?

2)Mrs. Anderson owned a house at 420 Adams Street in Your City, Your County, Your State. At the time of her death, she was delinquent on her real property taxes. she was a ward of a public guardian. The personal representative of Mrs. Anderson’s estate moved to declare the estate insolvent and to determine the priority of creditors. Under the laws of your state, would the tax lien be the first debt to be paid? why or why not?
