International agreements to limit greenhouse gases appear to be  hard to create and organize. Much of this is due to the lack of ability  to enforce punishments on countries and corporations from an  international standpoint (Module 7 Notes, National). Many countries are  not willing to partake in agreements and treaties that prevent their  growth and development. They also appear to have an issue with the idea  of being fined or punished for their growth and progress. The main part  of the problem appears to be politics. A treaty like this would require  countries to hold each other accountable, thus causing them to be  involved in the economics and geopolitics of other countries. Many  countries may have an issue with other countries knowing so much about  their internal business and workings. The Montreal Protocol of 1987  seems to be effective, which makes it the first treaty of this kind to  be accepted worldwide. This treaty discussed the rise in skin cancer and  cataracts rates and the dangers of not partaking in this treaty. The  treaty is meant to phase out the production of ozone-depleting  substances, which will in turn help the ozone to repair itself, as it  was on a dangerous track to being destroyed (The Montreal Protocol). I  think that this treaty is more successful as it expresses the dire need  of repairing the ozone. With the evidence that was used, it could be  shown that the ozone was on a path to destruction. Unfortunately with  other treaties involving reducing greenhouse emissions, countries often  view this as reducing their growth. One might wonder if some of this is  due to people not believing that climate change is much of a problem.

I am not sure there are elements of tragedy involving  limiting greenhouse gas emissions. That being said, I think that people  will be affected as limiting GHG emissions could affect the economy and  possibly slow down growth and development for many countries. If this  limiting were to plummet people further into poverty, reduce the  production of food, or harm people I think there would be tragedy  involved. I find the solution put forth by these men in bringing the  problem down to a state level to be helpful. By bringing it to a state  level, I think that the states could manage GHG emissions through  smaller aspects that can still make a difference. California has the  largest solar-powered energy system and is pushing for electric and  hydrogen vehicles (Module 7 Notes, New Initiatives). By working on the  problem at a national level, larger aspects can be changed, whereas  putting it on a state level can make smaller changes that add up.

  • ow successful have international agreements on limiting greenhouse  gases been in general (e.g., why was the Montreal Protocol of 1987 a  success, whereas the ability to cap global greenhouse gas emissions by  binding treaty has met with less success?)?

As it pertains to the success of the Montreal Protocol, the Agreement  signed by the attendees may have been executed out of appeasement more  than implementation of a plan to make a difference. Public scrutiny and a  lack of concern associated with ozone depletion risk may have been the  vehicle driving the Helsinki meeting. The Agreement may have also  temporarily pacified those accountable and redirected sanctions for  non-adherence to proposed solutions. Ass a result, numerous revisions of  the Agreement followed.

As Bradshaw (2013: 191) indicates, the entire effort to reduce fossil  fuel emissions has stalled due to an inability of world leaders to  agree to disagree when it comes to reducing or increasing fossil fuel  use in developed and undeveloped countries. This stagnation has served  as the main reason several conferences/forums succeeding Montreal have  failed to produce solid infrastructure leading to actual protocol that  would result in GHG reduction. Bradshaw (2013: 191) also points out that  the political hierarchy operating as a top-down governance structure  has failed to find operable solutions that can be amenably interchanged  between energy security, globalization and climate change.

  • International relations theory speaks to the difficulties of  foregoing self-interest for the common good, implying there are elements  of tragedy in preserving public good. In your view, is the current  state of international agreement on limiting greenhouse gas emissions  tragic? Of the optimistic solutions put forward by Michael Bradshaw, Tim  Wirth, Tom Daschle, and David Victor, which do you find most likely to  succeed?

The GHG emission dilemma served as a staunch example of how  responsible actors adhere to the obedience of economic platforms while  pushing futile resolution agendas. As Leck, Conway, Bradshaw and Rees  outlines, the nexus connecting water, energy and food (WEF), are  consistently introduced as business initiatives as opposed to overcoming  significant barriers that have previously presented challenges to  global environment change. If given the correct backing, this would be  an approach that can be considered realistic and has an actual chance to  really work.  Beddington (2009), identifies the issue as the “Perfect  Storm”. By interchangeably addressing the WEF trilogy, the resource and  availability challenges predicted by global population increase, which  in turn, increases total WEF use, can be minimized.

Whether the world moves to greener energies, or “dirtier”  unconventional ones is a key question that will help determine the  planet’s fate. The development of Canadian oil sands continues, yet so  does the deployment of solar and wind energy in Germany and elsewhere.  On balance, which way is the world likely to go?
Based on your  considered review of this module’s readings as well as your reflection  upon all of the modules, particularly those on energy trends and  transitions around the world, evaluate the questions below:

  • Scientist James Hansen says further development of Canadian tar  sands dooms the planet. In what ways does this claim have scientific  validity, and what do you make of it personally?
  • In your estimation, could this fate be avoided if scientists,  engineers and societies across the world alter their energy and  transportation systems to lessen greenhouse gas emissions?
  1. Discuss and explain King’s Conceptual System Theory.
    1. First explain the 3 systems and provide examples of each system
    2. Explain how the systems influence goal attainment
    3. How could King’s theory help define a clinical quality problem?
    4. Apply this theory to a potential practice quality improvement initiative within your clinical practice.
    5. How could a quality committee align outcomes with King’s Conceptual System Theory?
    6. What additional nursing theory from our readings could also align with an improved quality of practice initiative?

This paper should include 2 outside references and the textbook. This paper should be 1250 to 1500 words in length

This project consists of two parts:

· Part one is a speech in the form of a position paper that you will prepare for presentation at the international conference on leadership using the assigned reading and other sources. The speech should be 1200 words (±10% excluding abstract and references) to outline the main points of your presentation. Include organizational leadership and biblical worldview concepts within a global perspective as you seek to persuade an audience of your peers.

· Show an understanding of strategic thinking, a global future, and driving forces topics

· Show an understanding of cause-effect relationships between concepts and outcomes

· Show integration of organizational leadership and biblical worldview

· Part two is a PowerPoint presentation comprising 8-10 slides that you will create to accompany your speech. Refer to the writing guidelines for what is anticipated in a typical position paper (that is how to argue the point of your speech).

The morning project team meeting promised to be

an interesting one. Tensions between the representative

from marketing, Susan Scott, and finance, Neil

Schein, have been building for several weeks now—in

fact, since the project team was formed. As the project

manager, you have been aware that Susan and Neil do

not see eye to eye, but you figured that over time they

would begin to appreciate each other’s perspective

and start cooperating. So far, unfortunately, that has

not happened. In fact, it seems that hardly a day goes

by when you do not receive a complaint from one or

the other regarding the other team member’s behavior,

lack of commitment or cooperation, or general shoddy

performance.

As the team gathers for the regular project status

meeting, you start with an update on the project tasks,

any problems the team members are having, and their

assessment of the project’s performance to date. Before

you get too far into the meeting, Susan interrupts, saying, “John, I’m going to be out of town for the next

10 days visiting clients, so I can’t make the status meetings

either of the next two Fridays.”

“That figures,” Neil mutters loud enough for all

to hear.

Susan whirls around. “I have another job around

here, you know, and it involves selling. It may be convenient

for you to drop everything and come to these

meetings, but some of us have other responsibilities.”

Neil shoots back, “That’s been your excuse for

missing half of the meetings so far. Just out of curiosity,”

he continues sarcastically, “how many more do

you figure on blowing off while hanging out poolside

on your little out-of-towners?”

Susan turns bright red. “I don’t need to put up

with that from you. You bean counters have no clue

how this business works or who delivers value. You’re

so busy analyzing every penny that you have permanent

eyestrain!”

“Maybe I could pay attention if I didn’t have to

constantly stay on the backs of you cowboys in sales,”

counters Neil. “I swear you would give our products

away if it would let you make your quarterly numbers,

even if it does drive us into the ground!”

You sit back, amazed, as the argument between

Neil and Susan flares into full-scale hostility and

threatens to spin out of control. The other team members

are looking at you for your response. George, from

engineering, has a funny expression on his face, as if to

say, “Okay, you got us to this point. Now what are you

going to do about it?”

“People,” you rap on the table, “that’s enough.

We are done for today. I want to meet with Susan and

Neil in my office in a half hour.”

As everyone files out, you lean back in your seat

and consider how you are going to handle this problem.

Questions

1. Was the argument today between Neil and Susan

the true conflict or a symptom? What evidence do

you have to suggest it is merely a symptom of a

larger problem?

2. Explain how differentiation plays a large role in

the problems that exist between Susan and Neil.

3. Develop a conflict management procedure for

your meeting in 30 minutes. Create a simple

script to help you anticipate the comments you

are likely to hear from both parties.

4. Which conflict resolution style is warranted in

this case? Why? How might some of the other

resolution approaches be inadequate in this

situation?

INSTRUCTIONS:

It involves that the student read the case study and answer all questions at the end of the case study in a 4-5 page paper. It must include substantial support from at least two (2) scholarly journal articles on project management.

A new grocery store is being erected that will demolish a small neighborhood park, two vacant buildings, two occupied homes and part of a parking lot belonging to another store. Who would be some internal stakeholders? Who would be some external stakeholders?

please write an article on the above topic with atleast 2 scholarly article references.

Research Project Description –

These days, many people use the internet for their sources of information on drugs. However, many internet sites don’t always have the most objective or valid information. Some websites may have a particular agenda (such as promoting the legalization of drugs, or supporting a stronger War on Drugs), and therefore use selective bias in their information. Others may be written by non-experts who are simply giving their opinion without substantiating their claims. In some cases it may be hard to tell if the information you are reading was written by an expert on substance abuse issues who works in a drug research center, or a high school student writing a blog in their parent’s basement.

For your assignment you need to select one illegal drug (i.e., marijuana, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, etc.), and compare and contrast two different websites that give information about that drug. You first need to compare the information on each site. Then you need to critically analyze the information on each site in terms of its validity and objectivity. In order to do that you should address the following points in your comparison.

· What is the purpose and affiliation of the organization or author of the website?

· What are the author’s credentials?

· Is the information current? When was the information last updated?

· Does the source contain bias without evidence to back up the claims?

Finally, you need to discuss which website you find more credible and why. To do this, you should cross-reference the information on the websites with peer reviewed journal articles that you found on an academic database at the NYIT Library. Generally, peer reviewed articles are considered more credible because they have been checked for validity issues prior to being published. Therefore, if your websites contain information that can also be found in a peer-reviewed research article, it gives it more credibility. In other words, for this assignment, you not only have to compare the two websites, but should also find a few academic articles to cross reference the information with.

· Paper should be around 5-7 double spaced pages (not including title and reference page)

· 1-inch margin all around, include page numbers

· Use a 12 point font

Make sure to reference any direct quotes and to include a reference list at the end of the paper listing the websites and journal articles you used.
