 Innovative Entrepreneurs—Walker and Ford

Here you will focus on the business approaches of Madame C. J. Walker and Henry Ford. Both developed innovative and successful approaches in a time of rapid economic change. You will compare them in the way they started their respective businesses and the key innovative features that made each successful. One might find virtues, problems and successes associated with both. You might see elements of each in strategies of later leaders and related issues even today.

• Use Standards (SWS). The format      is different than other formats like APA. Please take a moment to review      the SWS documentation for details.
• Be typed, double spaced between lines, using Times New Roman font, Calibri,      Arial, or Courier (size 10, 11, or 12), with one-inch margins on all      sides; citations and sources must follow SWS format. You must have a Sources      list at the end; each source listed must also be cited in the body of the      paper with an in-text citation. Check with your professor for any      additional instructions. 
• The preferred      file software is Microsoft Word (part of MS-Office). Alternatively, a student can use      Windows’ WordPad (not NotePad) or OpenOffice. (Please do not submit files in .pdf format or Apple’s Pages or Google      docs.) 
• Include a cover page containing the title of the      assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title,      and the date. The cover page and the Sources page are not included in the      required assignment page length.
• The      body of the paper      should be five paragraphs and a total of 500-to-800 words in length. The 500 minimum is firm; you really have      not adequately developed the paper if less than that. The 800 maximum is a      loose guideline. The body of the      paper is to be double-spaced. Typically, if you follow these instructions, the body of your paper      will be 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 pages in length—add a page for your title page and      another for your sources list and that then gets to 4-1/2-to 5/1/2. But,      the length requirement is evaluated by word count.

Competency

Investigate and modify workplace visual media communication to enhance efficiency in completing tasks.

Scenario

You work for a marketing organization that has taken on a new client. The new client is originally an American company which targets American clients. However, with the current trends, this company realizes it needs to extend into global operations. 

Your task is to create two logos for this new client and submit a video presentation for the marketing team to review. Create an original, American-style logo, and then create a more  globalized version of that logo. Since most of the company’s global clients come from India, design the global logo to reflect the visual preferences that might appeal to that specific global audience. When designing the logos, utilize the following visual communication elements:

1. Logo size
2. Logo color scheme
3. Logo symbols/symbolism
4. Logo iconic meaning

The marketing team has specified that the video presentation should be less than three minutes in  length, and be created using a screen share to show both your visuals and audio analysis. They have also sent an email stating the following items need to be addressed:

• The main objective is to present your two logos and address how they strategically and effectively use the visual communication elements itemized.
• Be sure to  compare and contrast how differently American and Indian target audiences may respond to these logos.
• Discuss why your marketing organization should consider the importance of using the visual elements you visually designed for these logos.

Final Project: Presentation

 

You will create a PowerPoint presentation to be made to the CEO, Operations Manager and Board of Directors of Jones Company, in which you assume the role of Department Manager of Supply Chain for the Jones Company. In this presentation you will be making recommendations based upon the application of S&OP planning strategies to the Jones company supply chain.

 

Purpose:

The purpose of this assignment is for you to show how supply change and logistics must align and integrate to the company’s resources and how a good manager can effectively and efficiently make the integration and alignment in the best interests of the company. You will create a PowerPoint presentation to the CEO, Board and Operations Manager explaining how it will can be done.

 

Instructions:

Jones Company has made a number of improvements, thanks to your help, but they need to better integrate and align their resources to better serve their customers and improve profitability. As your final assignment, discuss how Jones can use Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) to bring about more cohesion in their operation. Prepare a 12 slide proposal that identifies what activities should be included in their S&OP approach, what should be discussed in their regular S&OP meetings, and what type of metrics (performance metrics) need to be developed and communicated.

 

Required Elements of the Presentation:

Identify what specific activities should be included in the S&OP approach.

 

•Clearly explain why the activities should be included and why it will benefit the company.

•What should be on the agenda for discussion on the regular S&OP meetings.

•Explain why these ideas should be on the planning agenda weekly.

•What type of metrics (performance metrics) need to be developed and communicated.

•Explain your rationale for selecting these measures in terms of their pros and cons, using evidence and examples and how they affect the change you are proposing.

 

Required Formatting of Presentation:

Your presentation is being made to the CEO, Board of Directors and VP for Operations and therefore should be short and concise. 

 

•It should flow well with one slide leading to the next logically. The information should be presented in bullet format with explanation in the note section only. 

•The note section would contain what you would “actually say” in the presentation. It must contain support from the class material, facts /conclusions derived from the previous projects.

•The PowerPoint presentation consists of at least 12 slides. Note that students may use Prezi rather than PPT. (Use “Click Here to Add Notes” for talking points).

•Third person writing is required. Third person means that there are no words such as “I, me, my, we, or us” (first person writing), nor is there use of “you or your” (second person writing). •Contractions are not used in business writing, so you are expected NOT to use contractions in writing this assignment.

Instructions

You have recently started working for a local department store in the Operations Department. Upon settling into your new position, you come to realize that they have outdated business practices. In your past work experience, you have utilized various forms of technology to complete daily job functions and have been part of updating technology to meet the demands of your organization. Technological advances can address all areas of the business including, but not limited to, how applicants apply for positions, the type of phone and computer systems operated, cash register functions, marketing methods, etc. 

You have shared your thoughts with your supervisor, and he has tasked you with putting together a narrated presentation, with visuals for your peers, to share the overall benefits of utilizing modern technology to help improve overall efficiency for the business and help to expand the consumer base for the store.

For this narrated visual presentation, you are to reflect upon and include discussion of the following topics or categories:

• Demonstrate how digital and technological growth can assist the organization:
  • Provide a definition for digital growth.
  • Explain how digital growth has impacted organizations.
  • Describe how digital growth impacts society as a whole and your store in the future.

Consider Conflict Theory and Symbolic Interaction theory and how they would explain deviance and a method to overcome it at your store. On your final narrated visual, provide a summary that directly ties together your visuals and discussion points, and provide an overall statement of the benefits of updating technological resources to help the store run more efficiently.

Before recording your final narration, rehearse your presentation as if you are delivering it to a live audience so that you are fully prepared. Your presentation should be fluent and fluid in nature so that it is clear that you are the expert on the material that you are presenting to your audience.

In order for behavioural interventions to be considered truly successful, students must be able to generalize or apply newly learned behaviors in different environments. Choose a replacement behavior that could be taught to a student as part of a behavior intervention plan and describe the type of generalization that could be used to help the student apply that behavior to a different environment. After you choose the type of generalization you will select at least one tactic for promoting generalization that could be used to support the student’s generalization of the desired behavior.
