1 What three topics does McChesney address in this book?

2 What is Political Economy? What is the most fundamentally important determinant in this theory?

3 Why is Political Economy a method better suited for his study than what the Skeptics and the Celebrants offer?

4 What is Political Economy of Communication? What is the relationship between communication, economic resources, and political power?

5 Summarize two examples, from Chapter 3, McChesney uses to explain the connection between communication, economic resources, and political power. You might consider selecting one historical and one contemporary example.

6 Summarize two examples, from Chapter 4, that address how the openness of the Internet was closed by powerful monopolistic interests from the pre-Internet age.

7 Summarize two examples, from Chapter 5, that address how the Internet has begat new emergent monopolistic interests in the digital age.

8 Why does the Internet, according to McChesney in Chapter 6, threaten the viability of valuable public debate in journalism and what effect does that have for political power?

9 Using two contemporary media industries we’ve studied in class, discuss how you would use political economy of communication to examine these media industries? What would your analysis tell us about the relationship of political power, economic resources, and contemporary media?

10 Conclude with a discussion of whether you agree or disagree with McChesney’s method and why you think his use of political economy works (or doesn’t work) for studying contemporary media.

Please note: the Final Paper is due the last day of class. Because the course ends on this day, no late submissions will be accepted for a grade. Do not wait until the last minute to try to submit this, as any issues with technology (Internet is down at your house, your final version didn’t save correctly, you can’t access Canvas, etc.) will not be accepted as excuses. If you do not submit your paper on time, you will receive a 0, and this is a significant portion of your grade for the course. Get started early, and submit it early so that you still have the option to submit a revision (if needed) before the final deadline!

Final Paper

MBA 607 includes a Final Paper that covers the cumulative course content throughout our four modules. Using content from the three chapters of the textbook, your HR practitioner interview, and your other independent research, describe in detail what you have learned about:

  • legally required and strategic components of total rewards
  • the impact of base pay and variable pay on employee performance
  • how pay-for-performance, sales incentives, and executive compensation support organizational strategy
  • various types of employee benefits, including health, retirement, and wellness plans

Think of this assignment as a summary of the important lessons of the course, as if you were writing a mini-textbook. This can also be a good source of reference material for you as you continue in your education and your career, so be sure that you are writing this in such a way as to be a useful resource in the future.

You may use the content you have written in previous assignments in this course. You should not, however, simply copy-and-paste from your other assignments and consider this complete… This assignment is your opportunity to revise, build upon, add to, and fully integrate your previous work together with new research and editing as needed.

Use in-text citations to show where you are applying or discussing content from your textbook. In addition to the textbook, you are required to apply content from at least three (3) scholarly sources. Be sure to cite where you are applying or discussing content from these sources as well. End your paper with a References list that gives the full details about the sources. In-text citations and References should be formatted according to APA standards.

While servant leadership is often associated with Christianity and the Bible, one could argue that it is compatible with most religions and philosophies and that it transcends cultures. This assignment presents you with an opportunity to explore other cultures, philosophies, and religions and asks you to think critically about how servant leadership practices are apparent in other religions and cultures.

Select one cultural context. Also select one religious viewpoint. You may not select Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, or Christianity, including any of its denominations or traditions such as Eastern Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism.

Examine how the principles of servant leadership are evident in that chosen culture and in that chosen religion. In an essay (1,250-1,500 words), identify similarities and differences between servant leadership’s philosophies and the values evident in the selected cultural context and religious viewpoint. Be sure to provide specific examples of practices and/or values in your discussion.

You are required to locate a total of four articles that address servant leadership in your chosen cultural context and religious viewpoint. Two of the articles should examine servant leadership from a different cultural perspective and two articles should examine servant leadership from a different religious perspective. Be sure to select academic articles from reputable sources that are 10-20 pages in length. Include information from the articles in your discussion.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Review “Example Leadership Models.” As you review the models, consider what you think are the most significant differences between servant leadership models and other models. Then either create your own graphic to visually represent your understanding of servant leadership or revise one of the existing graphics so that it better represents your understanding. If you revise an existing model, be sure to credit the original source.

Once you have created your model, compose a brief analysis (500 words) that addresses the following:

What are the unique characteristics of servant leadership and how do these elements make it different from other leadership models?

Define the paradox of servant leadership, and explain where you see this paradox present in your own representation.

Based on your understanding of effective leadership, how do you think your representation captures those qualities or characteristics necessary to lead effectively?

Submit the graphic of your model with the written analysis.

Negotiation Event

Most individuals have participated in several larger negotiation events at some time or other. For example, you might have negotiated a car purchase, a home purchase, an apartment rental, the planning of a wedding, a business partnership, a babysitting arrangement, or even an agreement to take care of someone’s yard for the summer.

Reflect on your negotiation history and identify a significant negotiation experience (in terms of size and scope).

For the first paragraph of your initial post, describe the negotiation event, including the participants, the key issues, and the outcome.

For the second part of your initial post, evaluate any one of the following starter bullet points, using research on course concepts to support your analysis.

Negotiations tend to follow stages or phases similar to the stages in decision making,      including preparation, information sharing, problem-solving, and resolution. How would you categorize the events of your negotiation example into those stages? How did behaviors of the parties involved change during each stage?

What BATNAs were available in your negotiation example? How were BATNAs determined? How were the BATNAs used? How did the integrative approach versus the distributive approach to the negotiation influence the role of the BATNAs in your scenario?

What interests were evident in your example? Which ones were substantive interests? Which  ones were process interests? Which ones were relational interests? How did the parties reveal or discover the interests?

How did the interests impact the negotiation?

How did stereotyping influence the negotiation? How did other types of perception,      selective perception, or perceptual distortions impact the process?

What positive and negative emotions impacted the negotiation? Why did those emotions  surface? Did they come about because of:

  1. The process being used
  2. The way the negotiation developed
  3. The relationship between the parties
  4. The outcomes being discussed
  5. The alternatives that existed

How could emotions have been used to enhance the negotiation (positive impact), or      what could be done to reduce the effect of negative emotions in your negotiation?

How did the parties show their familiarity or lack of familiarity with the building      blocks of negotiation?

How might the negotiation have been different if the parties had been familiar with the building blocks?

What types of leverage were available in the scenario? In what ways was the leverage used or not used? How was leverage used in an ethical or unethical way?      How did leverage alter the negotiation?

Conclude your posting with a summary paragraph that synthesizes one or two key issues or points of your initial post.

· Your initial post should be 1–2 pages (500–1,000 words) long.

· Cite any sources you use in APA format.

When Henry Ford marketed the Model T a hundred years ago, he stated  customers could have any color they wanted as long as it was black. We  have come a long way since then. The types and variety of cars have  exploded, and now cars are available in a multitude of colors.

  • Identify the different segments of the automobile market.
  • Discuss the types of people who buy minivans, pickup trucks, sports  cars, SUVs, compact cars, and luxury cars. What are the benefits for the  auto companies to segment the market? Give reasons for your answer.
  • Determine if it is possible for a company to attract customers from  one market segment into another market segment and still earn a profit.  Explain why.

15 pages with citations, will represent the culmination of your research. The paper has to be minimum 15 (and max 20) pages, 12-font, Times New Roman, double-spaced. It has to have a separate citation section, use any style you pick such as APA, MLA, etc. Final paper grade within a category will depend on a combination of the factors listed in the rubric. The topic you decide to write about is open but ideally you should write about your presentation subject but you are not required to do so.

Grading Criteria:

Each quote from the readings, class discussions, presentations, and readings and other class materials will automatically give you 2 points out of a 100. The more you demonstrate you grasped the issues, terms, and concepts you picked to write about the closer you will get to a full grade. Your paper’s grade within a category will depend on a combination of the factors listed below:
