Remember our discussion from Week 1 about what the American Dream is? In this course, we’ve looked the origins of the American Dream and then how some groups have struggled to be included. In this final week of class, we are looking at the current status and the future of the American Dream, as well as what it means to be a global citizen.

In a post of at least 100 words, address the items below:

  • Explain how has your understanding of the American Dream changed as a result of this course.
  • Reflect on John Lennon’s “Imagine,” which for many signifies hope. Do you believe there is hope for the American Dream? Choose at least one image from the song lyrics or video that signifies your new understanding of the American Dream.

Look at Henry David Thoreau’s “Resistance to Civil Government.”  He claims that it is not just our right as Americans, but it is also our duty to defy unjust laws.  This is a very American idea.  Part of the American identity involves intervening in the face of injustice.  Do you agree with this point?  What boundaries should exist to those interventions?  Support your claims using “Resistance to Civil Government” AND one of the other assigned readings from this week.

Criteria:

  • 300 words minimum (excluding quotations and citations)
  • Include two properly and integrated quotations (one from each work) to support your claims.  You may use either direct or paraphrased quotes.

Assignment: Genogram: Hernandez Family

As you have been exploring human behavior and the social environment, you have likely increased your awareness of the many biological, psychological, and sociological factors that affect individual behavior. Human relationships are complex, and social workers may find it difficult to keep these important interactions in mind when addressing a client’s needs. Murray Bowen (as cited in Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2019, p. 582). developed the genogram, a tool to help social workers and other practitioners create a record of family relationships. Once a social worker creates a genogram for a client, he or she may refer to it when analyzing the client’s situation.

To prepare for this Assignment, become familiar with how to create a genogram, which is presented in this week’s resources. Also, review this week’s media about Juan and Elena Hernandez’s visit with their social worker.

By Day 7

Submit a 2- to 4-page paper that includes the following:

  • A genogram of the Hernandez family
  • An analysis of the Hernandez family’s case based on the genogram including the following information.
    • Identify an element of the Hernandez family’s case that may influence the way Juan and Elena Hernandez address their issue with the social worker.
    • Explain how the genogram you created might help you address the needs of the Hernandez family.

Support your Assignment with specific references to the resources. Be sure to provide full APA citations for your references.

Most people can benefit from a professional development plan. This plan acts as a tool that can be used to focus, evaluate, and prioritize personal or professional development activities. Elements may include aspirations and goals, interests and activities, and a history of previously completed activities. An individualized plan usually details goals, the resources needed to gain new skills, and the expected outcome. As an educational psychologist professional, you may be called upon to write a professional development plan for yourself, or you may need to advise teachers or others who may be required to submit professional development plans.

Assignment (2–3 pages)

Develop a detailed outline for your professional development plan.

  • Specify two short-term and two long-term education goals.
  • Explain your career aspirations.
  • Analyze your research and writing interests.
  • Describe professional organizations in which you might be interested in becoming a member.
  • Devise two ways you might promote self-care (e.g., manage stress) in your role as an educational psychologist professional.
  • Explain two ways educational psychology informs your professional development plan.

Conduct a simple poll (using social media, email, in-person, or via telephone) with the intent to assess the ethical and legal implications of social media and hiring.

These are the questions you should ask:

Should employers research potential hires on social media during the hiring process? Ask respondents why or why not as well.

After you collect the data, prepare an analysis of academic research related to social media and hiring practices and outline the legal issues you could face regarding this topic.  Share examples provided that could or did have legal implications for the hiring agency. Compare your findings of the poll results to the academic research and assess recommendations and findings.

Length: 5-7 pages, not including title and reference pages

References: Include a minimum of five scholarly resources.

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the

ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect graduate-level writing and APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.

Each year, 1.5 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes (American Diabetes Association, 2019). If left untreated, diabetic patients are at risk for several alterations, including heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, neuropathy, and blindness. There are various methods for treating diabetes, many of which include some form of drug therapy. The type of diabetes as well as the patient’s behavior factors will impact treatment recommendations.

For this Discussion, you compare types of diabetes, including drug treatments for type 1, type 2, gestational, and juvenile diabetes.

  1. Outline a current or emerging health care law or federal regulation introduced to reform or restructure some aspect of the health care delivery system. Describe the effect of this on nursing practice and the nurse’s role and responsibility.
  2. Discuss how quality measures and pay for performance affect patient outcomes. Explain how these affect nursing practice and describe the expectations and responsibilities of the nursing role in these situations.
  3. Discuss professional nursing leadership and management roles that have arisen and how they are important in responding to emerging trends and in the promotion of patient safety and quality care in diverse health care settings.
  4. Research emerging trends. Predict two ways in which the practice of nursing and nursing roles will grow or transform within the next five years to respond to upcoming trends or predicted issues in health care.

You are required to cite a minimum of three sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria and relevant to nursing practice.

Students will write a scholarly paper that is a minimum of 8 pages in length (8 pages excluding the title page, abstract, and reference page)

  The paper must include at least five, peer-reviewed sources that cover your chosen topic from the list below. Keep in mind that 5 is the minimum.  A good quality research paper usually contains in excess of 10.  Sources should be less than 10 years old and if using statistical data, it should be less than 5 years old.  Do not forget to use in text citations to credit your sources.

Note that references used for your research need to be peer-reviewed/scholarly journals. These journals typically have the following characteristics:

1. articles are reviewed by a panel of experts before they are accepted for publication;
2. articles are written by a scholar or specialist in the field;
3. articles report on original research or experimentation;
4. are often published by professional associations;
5. utilize terminology associated with the discipline.

 Arsons are devastating and can have a great impact in people’s lives.  There are a few things that an investigator needs to do when investigating a fire.  First thing is to out if an arson or criminal act did take place (Lentini, J. J., 2012).  That is the first step in any investigation.  There is no need to start an arson investigation if one did not take place.  The next thing is to evaluate the scene.  Talk a walk through and point out areas that may need further investigation.  An investigator will want to start from where there is the least amount of damage to the greatest amount of damage.  This can help find a point of origin. While walking the scene also look for other evidence of a crime like a body or blood (National Institute of Justice, “A Guide for Investigating Fire and Arson,” May 31, 2009).  Also look for fire accelerants like gas (National Institute of Justice, “A Guide for Investigating Fire and Arson,” May 31, 2009).  The next thing you want to do is talk to the first responders that where first on scene.  Ask question like what did they seen when they arrived.  Somethings to ask is what did the smoke look like and if they saw anyone in the area (National Institute of Justice, “A Guide for Investigating Fire and Arson,” May 31, 2009).  Also you want to talk to witnesses that where in the area.  Also go door to door and talk to the neighbors.  They might have not saw anything the hour it happened, but they might have saw something or someone in the area the day of or day before the incident took place (National Institute of Justice, “A Guide for Investigating Fire and Arson,” May 31, 2009).
