Some organizations prohibit workers from bringing certain kinds of devices into the workplace, such as cameras, cell phones, and USB drives. Some businesses require employees to use clear or see-through backpacks when carrying personal items. What other devices might not be allowed in certain facilities, and why would they be restricted? The video on Google’s Data Center may give you some ideas to write about for this assignment.

For this assignment, you will examine a particular case within a  special population, and then develop a broad understanding of the role  of the forensic psychologist in a correctional setting.

First, you must choose a unique case study or special population as a whole. Some examples are listed below:

  • Selecting a case from the headlines such as a recent high profile  criminal case that has a clear intersection with mental health.
  • Making up a case example based on your interests, prior case examples you have read, or a mixture of all of the above.
  • Selecting a population as a whole that we may or may not have touched on in class including, but not limited to:

    • sex offenders
    • violent offenders
    • military offenders
    • women offenders
    • juvenile offenders
    • offenders with substance use issues
    • offenders with life sentences
    • high profile offenders
    • prior law enforcement who are incarcerated

After you have selected a case study, describe the particular  characteristics of the individual’s population and what particular  issues they may deal with in a correctional setting. Be sure to address  the following:

  • Relationships with other offenders and staff
  • Possible issues with authority
  • Treatment-related concerns
  • Relevant research on this population and its interaction with the correctional system

Next, you will discuss different aspects of correctional settings and  how you could influence this individual or population as a forensic  psychologist. Be sure to include the following:

  • Treatment options available for your particular individual or group’s needs.

    • Include treatment options while in jail, prison, or community corrections.
    • Discuss the availability and flow of treatment as the individual or  population moves from the correctional environment to the community.
    • Be sure to discuss the efficacy of treatment options available.
  • Other ways you may affect this individual as a mental health practitioner, administrator, or forensic psychology researcher.

    • This may include ideas for new initiatives, research, or systematic change
    • In discussing this you should identify areas where change is needed, what the issues are, and potential steps for the future

Additionally, discuss your overall impression of the mental health  services available in different correctional settings, and then evaluate  the degree to which your population’s needs are met.

Finally, be sure to include how the treatment program relates to  overall rehabilitation and recidivism in the community once released.

Support your Signature Assignment with 10 resources, including those  you located as part of your annotated bibliography in Week 3.

Length: 12-15 pages

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas  and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and  insights relating directly to this topic.

For this task you will think about an organization where you currently work, have previously worked, or are familiar with its work environment. Reflect on how leaders within that organization currently encourage the heart, how they recognize contributions, and how they celebrate values and victories. Be sure to use specific examples and details in your discussion of the current culture of encouraging the heart. Then, explain how you, as a leader, could build upon or improve the different facets of encouraging the heart within an organization. Again, provide detailed examples to support your ideas.

Support your reflection with at least five scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.

Length: 5-7 pages, not including title and reference pages

Your reflection should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.

For this assignment, consider the role, responsibility, and perspective of the criminal justice administrator (i.e., police chief or sheriff) in your municipality. You are tasked with identifying the plan and budget for the agency that accounts for threats of domestic terrorism.

To accomplish this, you will need to research your local (i.e., city, county, or state) law enforcement agency and the applicable fusion center to determine the connection that exists between budget allocation and the threat of terrorism. Use this information to analyze the threats that your agency plans and prepares for, and determine how training and response to these threats are budgeted. Most law enforcement agency budgets and fusion center budgets are public record and are easily obtained online; however, you may need to do some deeper research to obtain all of the information needed for this assignment.

Your case study should address the items below.

1) Identify your location and the law enforcement agency that you selected.

2) Discuss the terrorist or homeland security threats that apply to your area and how they are specifically addressed through department policy, procedures, and training.

3) Examine the role of the law enforcement administrator or leader (e.g., sheriff, police chief) in protecting the community from a terrorist incident. Address his or her potential concerns regarding the safety of the community and his or her officers in a terrorist incident.

4) Identify the external resources (fusion center resources and others) that could be tapped by law enforcement leadership in the event of a terrorist incident.

5) Determine how terrorist incident response, preparation, and training are budgeted. Are these items specifically allocated, or do they fall under the general category line items such as overtime and training? What other factors must an administrator consider when creating the fiscal budget that could possibly interfere with terrorism budget allocation?

6) Finally, take into consideration everything you have learned in this course about the role and responsibilities of a criminal justice administrator, the value of community policing, and the importance of the agency leadership having a positive influence on personnel and policy. With this in mind, propose two changes to the current way in which the threat of terrorism is handled and budgeted for in your local agency. Support your recommendations with a strong argument and evidence.

Your case study must be a minimum of three pages in length, not counting the title page and references page. A minimum of three sources will be used and must be properly cited. The case study, including all references, should be formatted in APA Style.

Please complete ALL THREE of the Professional Development exercises.

  1. Some institutions that require students to develop e-portfolios as a part of their program of study also may use this evidence of student learning to evaluate the program quality or generate evidence for accreditation reports. What do you think should be the driving purpose behind requiring electronic portfolios – professional development planning or institutional evaluation? What are the merits of each approach?

  2. Conduct a literature search for a scholarly article about e-Portfolios and how they are used in nursing. Summarize the findings, and discuss how this may be applicable within your nursing practice.

  3. Investigate a healthcare informatics technology trend

    • Use both Internet sites and library resources to describe the trend.
    • Cover both hardware and software requirements.
    • Discuss considerations for implementing the trend.
    • Discuss how the technology trend will impact nursing knowledge and/or practice.

Please submit one APA formatted paper 1000 words, not including the title and reference page. Each assignment should have a minimum of two scholarly sources, in addition to the textbook.

Marijuana was decriminalized in Canada in October 2018. Since that time, many Canadian police departments have implemented policies regarding officials using marijuana that would probably shock many Americans. For example, the Vancouver Police Department says that it will not impose any restrictions on their officers for using marijuana while off-duty. The only policy they will enforce is that all officers must be fit for duty when they report to work. It essentially holds them to the same standards as after-hours alcohol consumption.

Changes are happening in the United States as well. In Atlanta, Georgia, which is a state where marijuana use is still illegal, the Atlanta Police Department will no longer ask applicants if they have smoked marijuana and consider its use as a factor in eligibility to join the force. They claim that they have lost too many qualified candidates when asking them about marijuana smoking.

Share your opinions, from both the perspective of a criminal justice administrator working in a state where marijuana use has been decriminalized and from the perspective of a private citizen, on whether criminal justice personnel (in states where it is legal) should be allowed to use marijuana while off-duty. Explain the rationale for your opinions.

REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE’S RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTION AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE? (A MINIMUM OF 150 WORDS or MORE)

As a criminal justice administrator working in a state where marijuana has been decriminalized, I would still ask the questions of, do you smoke marijuana, have you ever smoked marijuana, and when was the last time you consumed marijuana? This would be for documentation purposes to have notated in the officer’s file. I would like to have a policy of no smoking marijuana 24 hours prior to their shift.

My rationale for this reasoning is that if a person consumes marijuana prior to being employed versus someone that says they do not consume marijuana but may pick up the habit after being influenced to try it by co-workers. If an incident should occur with an employee after consuming marijuana for the first time an incident occurs at work and the marijuana consumption played a part in the behavior of the officer, it would be good for the employer to have notated this information prior to their start date. Being a new consumer of marijuana may have played a major role in the officer’s behavior versus his conduct before ever consuming marijuana.

As a private citizen, I do not believe criminal justice personnel should be able to consume marijuana off-duty even if it is legal in the state, they work in. My rationale for this is that criminal justice personnel are held to a higher standard and looked upon by citizens as professional persons that they go to for help. I think that if they use marijuana and are corrupt, they will possibly take drugs from citizens to consume for themselves. I think that they will not follow the policy as directed by the department that will possibly lead to bad judgment calls and the use of force issues.

Select two diverse clinical settings; for example: ED versus ICU, PeriOp versus Med-Surg, Pediatrics versus Adults, or Sports Medicine vs. Nursing Home, etc. For your two selected clinical settings, compare and contrast the content, features, need, and value of data, information, knowledge, and decision support to clinical practitioners in those settings.

Justify the clinical elements necessary for each clinical setting and create a recommendation of necessary elements for a shared clinical system.

Make sure that you include the four expanding rings of information (EMR, warehouse, regional, NHIN/PHIN) in your analysis. Describe how the differences would alter the design or features of a clinical system. Support your statements where you claim either similarities or differences between your two settings.

Construct a justification for the shared clinical system from ethical, legal, social, and public policy viewpoints. Formulate a plan for implementation and create the necessary workflow for a successful implementation. Evaluate the role of the master’s prepared informatics nurse after implementation.

Please submit one APA formatted paper between 1000 – 1500 words, not including the title and reference page. The assignment should have a minimum of two scholarly sources, in addition to the textbook.

Human and social services professionals are both consumers and producers of research. While having a thorough understanding of the meaning of research for professional practice is essential, it is also important for you to have a basic understanding of how to conduct research. Surveys can be one form of research used for all areas of your practice, but they are especially useful in needs assessment. You can use surveys to determine unmet client needs or the degree to which clients are satisfied with your current services. They may also be used to evaluate the effectiveness of a particular program offered by a school, hospital, organization, or agency.

For this Application, you develop a survey instrument and describe your procedures for analyzing the data. These experiences will help you to develop a foundational knowledge of survey methodology.

To Prepare

Imagine that you are creating a needs assessment for the professional issue or interest you identified in this week’s Discussion. Develop an operational definition for the construct you will need to measure (e.g., “job satisfaction”). Then, construct a 10-item survey to measure this construct. Your survey questions should be measurable and based on one of the designs in the Learning Resources (i.e., Likert scale, indexes, etc.).

The Assignment (2–3 pages):

Submit your 10-item survey and a brief explanation of the survey design used to construct it. Be sure to include the operationalized definition of the construct you wish to measure. Briefly explain your rationale for including the items and describe how you would collect and analyze data from the survey. Finally, explain at least one challenge in constructing a survey of this nature. Be specific and provide examples.
