Brief Description of Agency-GA Mentor is a therapeutic foster care agency that provides therapeutic foster care services to youth between the ages of 0-18. We offer evidence-informed training to foster parents to provide quality homes for foster children. Services offered to children include 24 hours of home-based monitoring, therapeutic intervention, and access to community-based services, life skill development, and medication management oversight. GA Mentor ensures that the educational, mental health, physical health, and overall well-being needs of all children in our program are met.

Assignment 2

Policy identification

 

To prepare: Working with your field instructor, identify a social problem that is common among the organization (or its clients) and research current policies at that state and federal levels that impact the social problem. Then, from a position of advocacy, identify methods to address the social problem (i.e., how you, as a social worker, and the agency advocate to change the problem). You are expected to specifically address how both you and the agency can effectively engage policymakers to make them aware of the social problem and the impact that the policies have on the agency and clients.

 

The Assignment (2-3 pages):

• Identify the social problem

• Explain rational for selecting social problem

• Describe state and federal policies that impact the social problem

• Identify specific methods to address the social problems

• Explain how the agency and student can advocate to change the social problem

Leadership in a Multinational Organization

Select a multinational firm of non-US origin.  Do not use the same company selected for your course project and make sure your selection does not duplicate your classmates’ selections. Then, for your initial post, respond to your reservation post by addressing the following items:

  • Provide an overview of the organization and include the firm’s strategy.
  • Which leadership style has been associated with the organization’s CEO or top official?  You may use a former CEO if you find more information on that person.
  • Is the leadership style appropriate for the cultural environment of the firm?  Identify any skills that the CEO possesses and any that need to be developed.
  • Defend the leadership style you would use if you were appointed CEO of the organization.

Your final for the course will consist of writing an essay over any topic from the course. The essay should be a minimum of 3000 words. You should have at least 8 scholarly resources*. You may use more than 8, for example, a website or government information, as well. The essay should be completed in a 12 point font with 1 inch margins and be doubled spaced. You may use any style manual you are comfortable with (MLA, APA, etc.) 

As stated above, the essay can be over any topic in the course; however, if you find a topic relating to domestic violence that was not covered, you may contact me for approval of the topic. You may also use any of the discussion posts questions, videos, articles, etc. 

*A scholarly publication is one in which the content is written by experts in a particular field of study – generally for the purpose of sharing original research or analyzing others’ findings. Scholarly work will thoroughly cite all source materials used and is usually subject to “peer review” prior to publication. Please do not use Wikipedia or Encyclopedia definitions as a source.

Course Project: Part II

This course has major project assignments due in Week 3 and Week 5.  The assignments are worth significantly more points than other assignments and will take longer to complete than previous assignments.  Plan time to start the research and work on the assignments earlier that the week in which they are due.

Evaluating Leadership Styles, Cultural Differences and Negotiation

Tasks:

In Week 1, you selected an organization for your course project (Walmart).  Continue to use the company you selected to complete this part of the final project.  You will need to select one host country where the company operates to compare with the home country.

Prepare a report on the following topics.

  • Analyze the cultural, governmental, and legal differences between the home country and one host country for the organization selected.  Propose suggestions for managing the differences.
  • Assess the communication styles between the two countries and develop an optimal plan to avoid miscommunication.
  • Compare and contrast the negotiation styles for the home and host countries.  Using Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions, develop an appropriate negotiation style for the home country to use when negotiating in the host country.
  • Evaluate the leadership styles of the current CEO/leader of the organization selected and one previous CEO or other executive with a different leadership style.  Propose the most appropriate leadership style for leaders of the company when working with employees in the host country.
  • Assess skills that a manager of the company needs when transferring to the host country.  Consider the needs of the industry too.

Writing about one’s personal experience encourages self-reflection and improves self-awareness. In this activity students are invited to reflect, in writing, on their experiences related to managing clinical risks for patients. Students to write about an event they observed or were involved in during their nursing profession that they feel might have placed a patient at risk. Alternatively, students may want to write about an event that occurred to them as recipients of healthcare, or as an observer to their friends’ or family members’ experiences. The event may be one that they feel related to any of anticipation, recognition, or management of a patient safety risk. Safe patient care and reducing medical-legal risk requires nurse practitioners to be aware of potential risks and how to avoid them.

The narrative should include:

  • a description of the event
  • an explanation of how this event placed a patient at risk
  • the student’s reflections on the event including:
  • if and how the event was recognized
  • why and how the event occurred, for example, was the event due to
    • action or inaction by an individual healthcare provider
    • system failure(s)
    • a combination of systems failure(s) and individual provider performance issues
  • what changes or improvements they would make, if any
  • how they felt at the time
  • how they currently feel about the even

  • Summarize the key product/service offered by your organization,  including the role of the customer service department or direct service  required to make a sale to the customer.
