Information Literacy

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review the Research Guides and Tutorials under the Getting Research help tabs in the Ashford University Library.

Prepare: Knowing how to thoroughly research a topic is extremely important while achieving your education. You may be asked to support your information with peer-reviewed scholarly resources, but how can you find this type of resource? The Ashford University Library allows you to search through different avenues to find the requested types of resources. You can narrow your search by the author, year published, title, subject, and by indicating what type of resource you are looking for. You even have access to a librarian if you need some guidance in finding more resources on your topic.

Reflect: Given that you have been in college for awhile, it’s time to reflect on what you have learned through the use of the Ashford University Library in relation to how you learned to acquire new information from a variety of sources.

Write: This week, you will take the Threshold Achievement Test for Information Literacy (TATIL) (Links to an external site.). This test is not graded, and your results are anonymous. The TATIL assesses students’ ability to recall and apply their knowledge and their metacognition about core information literacy dispositions that underly their behaviors. Through this combination of knowledge and dispositional assessment, TATIL offers a unique and valuable measure of the complexities of information literacy. The results of this assessment will guide Ashford University in developing the best possible library resources and research methodologies training.

After completing the TATIL (Links to an external site.), in a two- to three-paragraph response with each paragraph consisting of five or more sentences,

· Describe your experiences using resources, including concerns encountered when conducting academic research through the Ashford University Library. Areas of concern may include developing a research strategy, using the search function within a database, or evaluating sources.

· Explain how using the Ashford University Library has improved your experience in conducting research. For example, you could identify and explain how specific tutorials that you have used have helped improve your ability to conduct research.

The Information Literacy paper

· Must include at least two paragraphs (of at least five sentences each) that respond to the two prompts, and that are formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center’s APA Style (Links to an external site.) resource.

· Must include a separate title page with the following:

o Title of paper

o Student’s name

o Date submitted

o Running header with page numbers

·

For further assistance with the formatting and the title page, refer to APA Formatting for Word 2013 (Links to an external site.).

· Must have no more than 15% quoted material in the body of your essay based on the Turnitin report.

· Must include a separate references page when citing specific sections and/or tutorials of the Ashford Writing Center. See the Formatting Your References List (Links to an external site.) resource in the Ashford Writing Center for specifications.

Final Project Annotated Outline

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review your completed Week 1 and Week 2 assignments, and familiarize yourself with the DSM-5 by accessing it in the Ashford University Library. Look up your selected psychological disorder in the DSM-5 (this is the same as the disorder you wrote about in the Week 1 and Week 2 assignments) to determine the diagnostic criteria, as well as other current information and terminology, and use this resource as one of your references (be sure to use in-text citations for the information used). With the exception of the DSM-5, you may cite and reference course materials such as the textbook, required or recommended reading, or multimedia, but these will not fulfill the source requirement.

Please be sure to use current terminology as described in the DSM-5 for neuropsychological disorders. This book is a manual of neuropsychological disorders and the diagnostic criteria needed to make the clinical diagnosis. This reference is used by mental health professionals and will assist you in your assignment this week, as well as all course work in this class. If your disorder is purely neurological, be sure to include current clinical guidelines, diagnostic criteria, terminology, and the neurobiology involved in the pathology, using current guidelines from the appropriate professional societies.

This assignment is an analysis of the neuropsychological disorder that supports your Final Project. You will create an outline of the main points of your Final Project, using your selected neuropsychological disorder as approved by the instructor in Week 1. The Final Project outline will be organized into three sections, each main section having required components. This outline is both an analysis of your topic, as well as a tool to ensure that you are on the right track with your Final Project. The more information you provide, the more feedback you will receive from your instructor, which will be helpful as you write your Final Project.

1) Your clients are Mr. and Mrs. Stanford. They are the seller in this transaction. The closing is taking place today. you were informed in advance that Mr. Stanford travels constantly for business and would be out of state on the day of closing. Thus, you prepared a power of attorney for him to sign giving Mrs. Stanford the right to sign the requisite documents for him. you gave the power of attorney to Mrs. Stanford a couple of weeks ago, and she promised that her husband would sign it and have it notarized. she handled the power of attorney to you a few minutes before closing. You are in the conference room ready to begin the closing. You notice that the signature for Mr. Stanford on the power of attorney does not look like his signature on other papers you have in the closing file. it look like the signature of Mrs. Stanford. what should you do

2) you are conducting the Miller – Morrison closing. You have prepared the closing document, including the HUD – 1 statement. The closing software you use has been customized to default to the customary practices in your country. In your country, it is customary for the seller to pay for the owner’s title policy. you and your supervising attorney have reviewed the closing documents, and you are now in the closing reviewing the HUD – 1 statement with the parties. when you get to the title policy line item, the seller objects to the figure in the seller’s column, stating that the contract specifies that the buyer pays for the owner’s policy. You pull out the contract and find that the seller is correct. You realize that you neglected to override the default in the software and charged the seller rather than following the contract and charging the buyer. The buyer expected to be charged for the owner’s policy but has to come to the closing with a cashier’s check covering the amount of cash due from buyer stated on the HUD – 1 statement. Thus, the cashier’s check is short by the amount charged for the owner’s title policy. How should this situation be handled?

3)ABC Corp, is selling an office building to XYZ,. Inc The contract was signed one month ago, and the closing is scheduled to take place next month. The rent rolls for the property indicated that 85 percent of the rental space is rented, with tenant leases running from three to ten years. Many of the leases contain an option to renew. Tenant Jerry Neville, a plastic surgeon, originally signed a five-year lease with an option to renew for an additional five years. The original lease also gave him the right of first refusal should the landlord decide to sell the building. when it came time to renew the lease. Dr. Neville renewed it, and that lease has three more years before it terminates. The president of ABC Corp. did not consider Dr. Neville’s first right of refusal when he negotiated the contract to sell the building because the original lease with Dr. Neville was signed seven years ago and he simply forgot about that provision. Now the tenant estoppel certificates are being prepared, and the issue has arisen. Dr. Neville has found out about the sale, and he is angry that he was not given the right of first refusal. He wants to purchase the property, but it is already under contract. How should the matter be resolved?

3) Dr. Leary, a veterinarian, entered into a contract to purchase a commercial building for his veterinary practice. The building is located in an area that is going through a transition period. The current zoning ordinance does not permit use of the property as a veterinary clinic. The seller and the sellers’ real estate broker both have assured Dr.Leary that they will be able to get the zoning board to permit the clinic, as the clinic would be in line with the redevelopment vision for the area. The contract, containing a zoning contingency, was signed by the parties, and the closing is scheduled to take place at the end of the week. The seller has now informed Dr. Leary that the zoning board did not meet last month as scheduled and that it is not scheduled to meet again until the middle of next month. He again has assured Dr. Leary that obtaining permission of the zoning board to use the property as a clinic should not be a concern because he has discussed the issue informally with a couple of members of the zoning board. Dr. Leary’s current loan commitment for financing this transaction is set to expire the day after the scheduled closing date. How should this situation be handled?

4) A lawyer shall not give anything of value to a person for recommending the lawyer’s services, except that a lawyer may pay the reasonable cost advertising or written communication permitted by this rule and may pay the usual charges of a not for profit lawyer referral service or other legal service organization.Your supervising attorney is often asked by real estate clients to recommend a good title insurance company. She always suggests Premium title company. In return for this favor, the title agent at premium always suggest your supervising attorney when their customers ask for the name of a good real estate lawyer. Has your supervising attorney violated the above rule by participation the arrangement

In Chapter 12, Wardle (2013) summarizes the important characteristics  of a culturally relevant teacher. Use this information as a guide or  resource throughout this assignment to help inspire your thinking as you  apply your knowledge of culturally relevant pedagogy toward specific  solutions to problems facing a teacher with a very diverse student  population. This exercise provides excellent practice over the  application of culturally relevant principles in the design of effective  instructional solutions. You will need to design such instructional  solutions within the Final Project, so it is very important to practice  such skills here. Specifically, for this assignment, you will view a  brief video taken with a cell phone by a student in a high school social  studies class. Student “Jeff Bliss” Mad at Teacher at Duncanville High (Links to an external site.) (Bliss,  2013) documents a meltdown Bliss experienced during his World History  course at Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas.

Review the Instructor Guidance before this task. In your paper, include the following:

Address the items below based on your inferences and ideas after viewing the events captured in the cellphone video. (2 points)

Describe the problem from Jeff Bliss’s perspective as well as from Ms. Phung’s perspective.

Explain what probably caused it.

Identify who benefits and who loses.

Indicate your position on this issue.

Discuss how a more equitable, culturally relevant approach to the class could improve the situation.

Express how Ms. Phung might respond differently to Jeff’s concerns.

Describe any equity strategies you noticed or inferred being implemented in the video. (2.5 points)

Suggest at least one strategy for each of the following four  categories that the teacher could have utilized to help meet student  needs in a more equitable fashion:

Instruction

Classroom Environment

Student Grouping

Student Recognition/leadership

Describe evidence of any culturally relevant pedagogy in action in the cellphone video. (2.5. points)

List at least three strategies that could be used to create a more  culturally relevant classroom. Such strategies might be drawn from the  following areas:

Maximizing academic success through relevant instructional experiences

Addressing cultural competence through reinforcing students’ cultural integrity

Involving students in the construction of knowledge

Building on students’ interests and linguistic resources

Tapping home and community resources

Understanding students’ cultural knowledge

Using interactive and constructivist teaching strategies

Examining the curriculum from multiple perspectives

Promoting critical consciousness through opportunities to challenge predominant elements of the students’ social norms
