Discuss two of the most valuable learning takeaways you gained from this course (Critical Analysis of Criminal Justice Administration) and how they can help you in your career or future studies. Identify the value you perceive of each of your identified takeaways as they relate to law enforcement agencies, citizens of the community, or you personally as a leader.

REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE’S RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTION AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE? (A MINIMUM OF 125 WORDS or MORE)

CLASSMATE’S POST

Two valuable takeaways for me is intelligence policing verses Predictive Policing. When it comes to data-driven law enforcement, two approaches come to mind intelligence-led policing and predictive policing. While these approaches are not equally limited, there is a difference. Predictive policing uses computers to analyze the big data regarding crimes in a geographical area to anticipate where and when a crime will occur soon (Peak and Giacomazzi 2019). While it does not go so far as to identify who will commit the crime, it does pinpoint hot spots to help law enforcement anticipate the approximate time of day and area of town where police might anticipate another crime. Armed with this information, police can be placed more strategically to either thwart a crime in progress, or even better, prevent a crime from taking place.

Intelligence-led policing, according to Peak and Giacomazzi (2019), is a style of policing that combines crime analysis with intelligence analysis. The important aspects of intelligence-led policing include the following elements: identifying who, what, when, and where. Perhaps we should also consider adding the aspect of why. By understanding why an individual commits criminality, we can better incorporate deterrent methods. Intelligence-led policing is a collaborative law enforcement approach combining problem-solving policing, information sharing, and police accountability, with enhanced intelligence operations. It is designed to guide policing activities toward high-frequency offenders, locations, or crimes to impact resource allocation decisions (Peak and Giacomazzi 2019). An important component of intelligence-led policing is that it encourages and, arguably, depends on collaboration among various agencies and the community, including not only local police, but other local law enforcement, the FBI, homeland security agencies, and even probation and parole officers.

What happens once a proposal is submitted? How are funded proposals selected?

Funders apply a variety of strategies to select the proposals they are going to fund, including using scoring matrices, internal review staff, external reviewers, and members of their boards.

Public funders use a different system than private funders. Federal grants, for example, provide scoring criteria and include point values for those criteria. Private funders have greater flexibility and may even require all members of their board of trustees to have conversations about the applications. Their decision-making process may seem more “personal” and could include back-and-forth communication with the applicant.

In preparation for this Discussion, carefully look at any “review process” information included with your RFP and/or funding source information. With this in mind:

By Day 3 of Week 6

Address the following in a Discussion board post:

· An outline of the review process of the funding source/RFP you selected

· What criteria are used?

· What do you see as the benefits and challenges of this review process?

· How can you use this understanding to better prepare your proposal?

Be sure to support your analysis and conclusions with citations and references in APA format from the Learning Resources and your own research.

Select a potential natural or man-made disaster that could happen in your community (Austin, TX). Then, write a 3- to 4-page paper about the disaster from the community nurse’s perspective.

Section 1: The Disaster, Man-Made or Natural

  • What disasters may strike your community and why? For example, do you live in “Tornado Alley,” or has climate change resulted in unusual cold weather snaps or blizzards in your community? Are you located in a flood plain? Include possible diseases that may result from a natural disaster, such as tetanus or cholera.

Section 2: The Nursing Response

  • Formulate responses to the disaster, considering systems and community levels of intervention.
  • Review websites where a disaster plan may be available for the public, or if one is not currently available, call public health department to see if a disaster plan exists for your community and what the plan contains.
    • In addition to reviewing websites for information about your local disaster plan, you will need to locate best practice/evidence-based practice guidelines in professional literature to determine whether your community’s disaster plan is as sound as it might be or if there is room for improvement.

Section 3: Is My Community Prepared for a Disaster?

  • What conclusions can you draw about your community’s preparedness plan from having completed this evaluation?

Location is Austin, TX.

Constructing a budget requires time and attention to detail. This section of the grant proposal should include the narrative or justification and the financial details associated with funding the project. While the tabulated costs address the financial requirements associated with the budget, the narrative or justification should explain anything that is not apparent in the itemized budget. Be careful not to get redundant with the budget narrative. It is best to review examples to understand the required balance. Finally, as you consider developing your budget, make sure that you have fully examined the requirements of the RFP. Determine the timeline of the grant as well as your activity timeline and management plan to ensure you have covered all the nuances of project work that has associated costs. Ask yourself: Does this budget reflect all activities? Are all the project costs as well as the in-kind donations and volunteer resources documented? Is this budget realistic?

For this Assignment:

· Review the Final Project Guidelines provided in this module’s Learning Resources.

· Carefully review the University of Wisconsin-Extension resource as well as other Learning Resources focused on project budgets. You also may find additional online information from reputable grant-related organizations.

· With consideration to feedback in Discussion 1 that you received from colleagues and your Instructor, and to your continued evaluation of the literature and funder guidelines, finalize your project Budget, Budget Narrative, and Sustainability Plan.

For your Assignment:

Part I: Budget Template

· Use the budget template provided in the Learning Resources.

o Fill in the budget template for your project.

Note: Rationale for costs will be provided in the budget narrative.

Note 2: Budget line items should consider the non-personnel and personnel resources listed in the methodology section.

Part II: Budget Narrative and Sustainability Plan

· The Budget Narrative expands on the line items of the budget, providing a reviewer detail and justification for how you arrived at the projected dollar amounts. For example: If hiring a consultant for $2,000 is a line item, the narrative might explain that this is based on 40 hours @ $50/hour.

· The Sustainability Plan explains how your agency plans to continue operating this program once the funding has run out.

· It also indicates where future funding and other resources might be obtained.

Note: All relevant cost issues from the budget are addressed in the sustainability plan.

This case study describes how a company wanted to improve its image to its customer base. The company formed a community of practice within its employees to develop a positive image and they sought to highlight their positive impact on the community in Singapore. The company also set aside a budget for donation to nominated charities. Part of this initiative was a social media launch and campaign to highlight its support for their charities. This plan had been received very positively by its executive team, because of the projected increased brand exposure. Many employees expressed their support for the proposals for this social media release and they even proposed measures for the impact of the social media campaign along with potential market gain.

Some employees within the company had some personal reservations about this campaign, and although they were asked to provide their comments, employees were careful not to say anything as this campaign had gained widespread traction amongst the high-level executives. As a consequence, there were internal conflicts where individuals decided they had no opportunity to voice their concerns and they resigned from the company. Some employees who were not so fortunate to find other employment remained quiet, but felt they were dis-empowered and unable to voice their opinions, and felt socially isolated.

As it turned out, the company was heavily criticised on social media at the launch of the campaign. Members of the public flooded the company’s social media page with complaints about the company disrespect towards the charity and accused the company of being hypocritical in their intentions.  The accusations were about the use of a charity to increase their market share. The company was accused company did not have any plan to respond and this  vitriolic attack came as a surprise. The company shut down its social media page and withdrew from the campaign.

You have been engaged by the company to do a study on this failed campaign and to write a report. The purpose of this is to enable the company to learn from what occurred and for proposals to be considered to avoid this situation.

Prepare a report, to your executives, highlighting to them some of the points of view that may not have been considered in their campaign.

Your report should be 2500 words maximum, excluding references and appendices.

As a guide, you should consider these points:

  1. Propose a risk management framework that may be incorporated into future projects at planning stage;
  2. using Neohumanism as one of the two conflict based perspectives, explain the methodology for avoiding, as best as possible, individual employees from being partisan to this conflict;
  3. using Radical Structuralist the second conflict based perspective, explain in your report why there is a predicable negative backlash from the public against this marketing campaign;
  4. propose a set of questions that the project teams may ask in the future, to avoid the pressure in individuals;
  5. make well argued proposals, that are well grounded in literature, that would help future campaigns;
  6. .demonstrate your ability to research this topic through the identification of at least 10 journal articles to support your work.

To repeat, it is necessary for you to demonstrate your ability to present the issues by selecting the appropriate perspectives to support your recommendations, or why you are offering a few competing viewpoints.

  • Create a power point with the intended audience to be a community health department.
  • Focus on a real or fictional disaster that has or could affect your area. For example, if you live on the Florida coast you might choose potential hurricane.
  • Discuss the role of the Community Health Nurse in each stage of disaster. You should include a few slides on each stage of disaster: preparedness, response, recovery with specific activities and resources that the public health nurse would use in each stage.
  • Identify other agencies that might be involved.

The assignment should be submitted in Power Point format, with at least 10 content slides (in addition to a title slide and reference slide) and include at least two scholarly sources other than provided materials.  (State: Texas)
