Part I

In this part of the assignment, create a performance management plan for your fictitious company for the upcoming merger. The paper must address, in detail and paragraph form, the following questions.

  • What performance criteria will be used? Include specific examples.
  • Who will conduct the appraisal, and will a standard or custom form be used?
  • How often will appraisals be conducted, and what are good HRM practices that can be used to ensure the appraisal does not become just an annual event?

Part II

In the second part of the assignment, begin by reviewing the Case Study found on page 164 of your textbook titled IHRM in Action Case 6.1. Using this scenario as a basis, address the following items:

  1. Discuss how Richard should strengthen the relationship with his supervisor, Jean.
  2. Discuss what Richard could have done differently to begin that relationship.
  3. Should Richard contact his supervisor in Toronto? Why, or why not?

The entire assignment, including both Part I and Part II, should be in a narrative format and not a series of questions and answers. The total length should be no less than two pages not counting title or reference pages. You must use a minimum of one source, which can be your textbook.

Using your fictitious company from the assignment in Unit I, create a PowerPoint presentation of no less than 10 slides (not counting the title slide or references slide) with speaker notes to address the numbered topics below. Note: This briefing leads to the final presentation in Unit VII.

In the presentation, you need to include the following items.

  1. Create a staffing plan for the upcoming merger. Explain the four approaches to international staffing and select the one(s) that your organization should use.
  2. Describe to what extent expatriates will be employed in the overseas location.
  3. Describe how training and orientation plans will prepare expatriate employees for success abroad and for their return home.
  4. Include specific strategies for increasing the participation and success of women in expatriate assignments in your staffing plan.

Be sure to include a title slide and a reference slide that lists references in APA format. You may use the information in your textbook, and include at least one peer-reviewed source from the CSU Online Library.

For this assignment, you will again be writing about the fictitious company that you created in Unit I. In a minimum of two pages, discuss the following items that address the human resource (HR) implications for your company as it goes international as well as your role in HR in this growth. These will also help you to prepare for your PowerPoint briefing to the CEO that will be submitted in Unit VII:

  1. Discuss current HRM practices that will need to be modified as the organization goes abroad.
  2. Discuss the three different types of HR structural forms (centralized, decentralized, and transition) and select the one this organization should adopt and explain why.
  3. Explain the control mechanisms to put into place to ensure the organizations culture is congruent across international borders.
  4. Address factors driving standardization.
  5. Discuss factors driving internationalization growth and the spread of internationalization.
  6. Discuss the IHRM professionals role and challenges in a typical merger and acquisition.
  7. Discuss international joint venture challenges.
  8. Discuss the term SME as it applies to IHRM.

The paper should be APA-formatted using at least two peer-reviewed articles and the textbook as supporting documentation. You should also have a title page and a reference page, which do not count as part of the two-page minimum requirement.

For this assignment, you will be writing about a fictitious company you create that offers a product or service of your choice. The following facts about the company provide the framework for this assignment.

  • Your company is based in the United States with no current global footprint.
  • Having gained approval from the board of directors, your company is preparing to merge with another company that provides a similar product. The purpose of the merger is to expand your companys reach and create a global presence. When the merger is complete, your company will operate under a new organizational name and open a facility overseas in a country of your choice.
  • As the vice president for human resources, you report to the chief executive officer (CEO) who has asked you for guidance on making the merger successful.
  • This building of the merger project will continue throughout the course, culminating in a final PowerPoint presentation briefing in Unit VII to the CEO just prior to the overseas facility opening.

Write a minimum of two pages in an APA-formatted paper using at least two peer-reviewed research articles from the CSU Online Library and the textbook as supporting documentation, addressing the following topics.

  • Explain the major differences between domestic human resource management (HRM) and international HRM.
  • Explain some cultural concerns that the organization will need to consider when developing the business plan. Some key cultural points to address would be the host country culture and norms that will affect the employees and leadership.
  • Develop a mission statement to cover the main goals and mission of the organization in order to function effectively in the overseas location with short-term goals.
  • Explain the spread and growth of internationalization, and how this affects your fictitious company.
  • Develop an outline for a basic business plan and strategy to include a vision statement that looks three to five years in the future.
  • Address any legal and safety issues.

For this homework assignment, you will develop a supporting human resource (HR) plan for an organizational strategy. In a paper of three to four pages (750-1000 words) of text, offer your ideas for a promising HR assignment, development plan, and sustainment plan to support the strategy of an organization expanding to open offices in sub-Sahara Africa. Drawing from appropriate sources, develop a scenario that provides the business of the organization, identify how much expansion is taking place, and identify the countries in which the expansion is taking place.

  • A useful starting point is estimating the total number of relocating employees that can be supported in the host country.
  • Will the organization need to establish a commissary (for grocery purchases), banking and currency exchange, and limited urgent-care stations?
  • Should the organization set assignment lengths of one year or two with families? What does research say is the optimal time period?
  • If there are families, what would be the children’s school arrangements?
  • How will the employees be housed?
  • Do they need an increased housing allowance, or does the organization need to procure its own compound of apartment housing?

Your homework assignment must be at least three pages in length. You are required to use at least one outside source to support your explanation. Your homework assignment response should be formatted in accordance with APA style.

Review the motivational ideas or theories addressed in the readings for Unit III. Using yourself as an example, do you feel that one or more of the ideas or theories are particularly effective in motivating you, or is there a better way you can be motivated?

  • Engage the reader in the topic with some form of creative hook (such as a story, quote, or example).
  • Provide an example of a situation in which a leader used one of these theories to successfully motivate you.
  • Next, provide an example of a situation where an attempted motivational tool did not work.
  • What was it about the second example that did not work? Explain your answer.

Details:

You will pick one of the following topics only to do your paper on:

The following is an example (do not copy/paste and use) of a thesis statement/beginning introduction:

Thesis Statement:

In this essay, I evaluate the philosophical puzzle: If a tree falls in the forest and there’s no one around to hear it, does it make a sound?  In my evaluation, I explain that this question raises the epistemological problem of how a subjective experience, such as sound, relates to what can be known of reality. I demonstrate that this question is a puzzle because it exposes the limits of what we can claim to know based on sensory experience. Lastly, I will explain how the empiricist, John Locke, would evaluate and answer the puzzle.

II-IV. A list of three or more body paragraphs with transitioning sentences. This is just an outline of three or more body paragraphs.  You are not writing the entire paragraph here.  Just the outline.

For example:

I.  Discuss morality:

  2. Then a sentence that transitions to your next paragraph such as:  The next area for discussion is skepticism.

Your next paragraph outlines like above and so forth.

V. Your rough draft of a conclusion

Conclusion. Works Cited in MLA formatting.
  • Support: List of three or more reliable/scholarly resources.
