Case 1.106 The Hiring Decision
You are the Minister of the Canada Product Regulation Agency, which is responsible for setting safety standards and product testing of all environmental emissions and goods production. The Deputy Minister of the Agency is retiring and needs to be replaced. Therein lies the problem. One candidate, the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) and Director of Research, has been groomed by the retiring Deputy Minister to replace him, but you are unconvinced that he is the best person for the job. You launch a search that turns up three other candidates. But you have heard through the grapevine that the ADM would not serve under 2 of these three candidates. Expectations:
For these Written Cases you are expected to prepare a properly structured paper of 700-1000 words that will:
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Case and include a recommendation for a course of action
• Address the specific questions
• Critically evaluate the Case, and where necessary provide documented evidence to support your position
• Demonstrate appropriate language usage and grammatical structure
• Include: a title page, your name and date, page numbers, follow proper formatting techniques – double spaced, 1 inch margins, 12 pt font in Arial, type-written, provided electronically in MS Word
• Where necessary, footnotes or end notes to document ideas taken from other authors.
