RLST 3326EL 12—Religion and the Elderly —Course Information and Syllabus6Research PaperStudents are to compose a research paper about what a specific religion that interests him or her regardingaging and the elderly. The paper must be at least 1,800 words with a maximum of 2,000 words(5-7 pages). Students are to keep in mind that the paperought to discuss what that particular religion has to say about aging and the elderly; how the religion views the elderly; the roles the elderly has within the religion; what the religion’s overall philosophy pertaining to the elderly is; and furthermore,how the religion’s views are consistent with, or different from, Western society as a whole. Students may wish to include his or her own insights and observations; however, students are to keep in mind that this assignment is deemed, first and foremost,a research paper; all personal imports must be supported by thorough research. A minimum of 10 academic sources must be implemented properly.Case StudyStudents are required to write a 2,500 to 3,500 word (8-12 pages maximum) including a bibliography and appendices. In order to complete this assignment, students are asked to choose an elderly person that he or she either knows or would like to know further. Students must make at least 3 visits (although, the instructor recommends at least 4-6 visits spread across the term); during these visits, students are asked to get to know the person’s life philosophies, that is, his or her opinions about the material and topics covered within the course.
