“The material you needed for the essays, the first one on the ideal city and the slum/urban village, Wirth & Mike Davis. The material for the second essay on informality (informal housing, informal business). The article on gated communities in Cairo by Kuppinger and Elshahed for #2 and the 2 films and the Manshiet Nasser article for #2. I would even say the 2 articles I wrote that were actually assigned, but waved, and I covered them “informally” on the board in class, because these cover rural-to-urban migration (internal or domestic migration). The Weaver and Abdo articles on Imbaba, and the handout summary of the Singerman article for problems of 19th century cities (i.e., Cairo). Then the Gardiner article for Gulf cities and the 2 Mahdavi chapters for the problems of Gulf cities, for (2) how the rich live, and (3) international migration.”
