The purpose of compiling a writing portfolio is to allow you to review and revise one last time the three papers you have done over the course of the semester. That being said, you will begin your portfolio with a 2-page self-reflection essay.

The self-reflection essay may be a response to some of the following questions:

  • How have you changed as a writer over the course of the semester?
  • In what ways have you improved?
  • In what ways do you still need to improve?
  • How can you describe your writing process?  Has this changed over the course of the semester?
  • How can you describe your writing style?  Has this changed over the course of the semester?
  • Do you think any differently about writing now in comparison to the beginning of the semester?  If so, how?
  • What are your goals with writing in the future?

The self-reflection essay must be an essay, not a disorganized response to a list of questions. As such, it must have a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. It should also be organized logically and have adequate transitions from one idea to the next.

Organization of the writing portfolio:

  1. Cover Page: includes your name, the date, the course, and section number
  2. Self-reflection Essay (2 pages, double spaced in 12 point, Times New Roman font)
  3. Final Revision of Paper #1 based on my comments  and your thinking since turning in the paper
  4. Final Revision of Paper #2 based on my comments  and your thinking since turning in the paper
  5. Final Revision of Paper #3 based on my comments and your thinking since turning in the paper
