Themes: America during World War I OR Women in Science 

You will be writing a 2,000-word research essay on American history after 1877. You will use one of your monographs as one of your sources: Freedom Struggles or Integrating Women into the Astronaut Corps. With that in mind, write a research question based on one of the above themes. You may use of one of the ones below or write your own. Here are some ideas: 

World War I Era 

• How did minorites contribute to the war from the homefront during World War I? 
• What was the Houston Riot and how did it end? 
• How did Woodrow Wilson’s approach to diplomacy influence the outcome of WWI? 
• How did Progressive-era Reformers work for civil rights? 
• What was the extent of the peace (anti-war) movement in the U.S.? 

Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) 

• How have women contributed to a particular field of STEM? (choose engineering, aeronautics, biology, geology, mathematics, etc.) 
• What is the legacy of Henrietta Lacks? 
• What was the role of government in regard to women at NASA? 
• How did sexism contribute to women being excluded from NASA? 
• How did the desegregation of schools affect medical education for people of color? 

CONSTRUCT A BIBLIOGRAPHY 

Create a bibliography (MLA or Chicago style) on your assigned topic with each of the following (minimum):

4. Primary source 
5. Journal article 
6. Internet source
