Paper instructions:
You will work individually to identify a contemporary issue or teaching approach in senior science education, and conduct an in-depth analysis of this issue/approach. You are expected to
conduct a thorough literature review of your chosen issue/approach and provide a detailed overview of this material in your written report. You are expected to consult a variety of r eference
materials, which must include peer-reviewed academic journals in the field of science education. You are then required to provide practical information about how you would integrate your
chosen issue/approach in the secondary science classroom. In terms of the lit review, the classroom application piece is not just an afterthought – a coda of a couple of paragraphs to nod in the
direction of practice. It’s kind of the point of the whole assessment task: it’s about how the research literature informs practice. It mightn’t be half the length of your assignment, but should be
at least a quarter (and I’m cringing even quantifying it, but I know it’s unhelpfully vague otherwise). And, speaking of unhelpfully vague: the classroom application piece should be something I
could observe happening if I was sitting in your classroom, rather than a general attitude or disposition on your part. Not “I will pay attention to X…” (since how will anyone know whether you
are paying attention, and how will you remember to pay attention when so much else is demanding your attention?) but “I will do (this observable change in practice) Y” (reference at least 12
sources)
