After thoroughly analyzing Doves writing, with an understanding of the purpose of figurative language, you will decide what personal experience you have that causes you to feel just as passionately as Dove feels about books.

You will write this narrative in first person point of view, hence the name personal narrative. Model the example set by Rita Dove, employing her use of figurative language and clear tone as your guide. Include at least one simile, one metaphor, and one instance of personification in your essay. BOLD these examples within your essay.

Include a captivating and original title. Edit carefully and refer back to your course syllabus for grading guidelines. As always, this essay must be your original work.

This personal narrative will be typed in MLA style and will fill two typed, double-spaced pages. You may go over two pages, but please do not exceed three pages.

You are not quoting Rita Dove or referencing her work within your essay. Her writing is a sample for you to follow.
